is anyone else watching the VMAs

My husband walked into the room part way through the show and his first comment was about the "film like" feel to the show.

What the heck was up with Christina Aguliara (SP?) ?? What was she wearing, a scarf and a belt? That was a ludicris outfit. How old is she? Not old enough to be wearing that.

Axl needs to take some singing lessons...that was horrible. I was cringing through most of it.

I'm with you. He always sounds like he's passing a bowling ball through his colon.

Christine Aguilera is 21.

GNR? Really? Now I kind of wish that I'd watched the show but at least the reruns will go on forever. Axl was never a great singer but I guess that these comments mean that he didn't lip sync?

It stunk it stunk it stunk!!!!

So disappointed with the VMA's this year! Too much hip hop not enough rock!

Planogirl.........trust me be glad you missed Axl's "performance" it was the worst thing I've seen in a while! I use to love GnR! He STUNK!

I think it was by far the most technically spectacular and unglued VMAs ever. Every year they are on the edge, and this year was no different. Does anyone really watch for the live voices? Not me. I'm happy enough with dubbing, and the P Diddy set was spectacular. The Eminem Congress Set? Bruce? Sheryl Crow? All smartly done.

The tape delay and videography gave me a headache, too - I hope they recorded it as a live production too, so we won't have to watch slow-frame videography every time it runs. I think the host was high on something.

I went to the very first ever VMA. It was held in the Armory in Manhattan. I sat in the bleachers :) It's come a very long way. Not necessarily for the better

It's really a shame that Christina feels she has to dress like that, I think she's got a much better voice than Shakira and Britney. But to dress like that just takes all her credibility away :(

In regards to the lipsynching - our djs (we listen to Detroit radio in Windsor) were talking about it today, as they do after every award show broadcast since they are always live from the show. Most artists record a special version of the song to be lipsyched or used as a voice enhancer while performing live on stage. The djs commented on the fact that they are getting tired of seeing so many artists not only lipsynch on award shows, but in concert as well. Many of the artists are doing it now because their voices just aren't that good, plus, they can dance and jump around on stage. Regardless of this Britney said it best last year when she declared herself an, ..."entertainer." Not a singer, but an entertainer. Many of today's musicians just can't sing that well, so they learn how to dance really well, and this covers up the fact that they aren't very good singers - Britney, Justin Timberlake, etc... This is why my DH and I haven't been to a concert in ages - I am not going to pay $50.00 - $75.00 US (let's not even talk about what that is in Canadian money!) per ticket to hear exactly what I can hear on my $14.00 CD. In my opinion, last night's show was the worst I have ever seen - bad host, even worse performances, and disgusting outfits!

indie stripe - they were ldefinitely live, they just didn't look it. overall they did stink. despite some great performances (eminem, sheryl crow, shakira), it just tanked. ew.

after watching the full show now I am glad its over, me and dh kept saying is that GNR or someone pretending it was them, you know how the host was pretending to be different artist at the beginning of the show, I though he was doing the same at the end, I kept waiting for him to pull that hair off and it was going to be the host, anyways all I could really think is what a previous post had said about Britney Spears being a bad influence on young girls and being a horrible role model, well all I can say I will take her over PINK and that other chick any day after they were bragging on stage how drunk they were, Ya lets be proud we cant even stand up there and hold on pants on. way to go PINK!

i didn't like this year's show at all. i agree with spago - there were some good performances, but overall it was just awful. i hated the film-like quality to the show. but i thought jimmy fallon did a good job hosting.

did anyone see who started booing eminem during his 2nd acceptance speech? (when christina aguilera gave him the award) i know he got very angry, but i was wondering who started the booing.

Wow, I disagree with most of you, I loved this years VMAs. Bruce was great, Jimmy Fallon was above average for a host, seeing MJ was cool, and the GnR thing was a shock. I liked the movie look it had going.

The Moby-Eminem thing is always interesting... Umm I didn't like Pink winning so many awards, or Eminem. I thought video of the year should have gone to Nas.

The performances I didn't like were Eminem and Pink.

I thought Shakira was decent, even though I don't care for that song.

Hmm... was very happy to see Michelle Branch win the Viewer's Choice.

Thought the Hives were better than the Vines.

Overall is was a great show.

I think that whole "Hives and Vines" show was MTV's attempt to push MTV2 (the independent label channel). It definitely didn't seem to be driven by consumer demand!

I'm glad that I saw this. I watched it with my 2 DD's, and I said the same thing about it looking taped.

I thought that the segment that Jimmy Fallon opened with was a riot.:p :p :p

I'm also glad that I stayed awake to see GNR. I'm going to MNSSHP for the first time, and I've been debating whether to have a costume or not. Since seeing the guitarist from GNR, I'm going to wear a hooded sweatshirt and stick a KFC bucket on my head.;) ;) ;)

I just had to post on this thread! I have to say every year I look foward to the VMA's because they usually are the best music award show on t.v. But this year!! It was just BLAH and alittle annoying. I did think Jimmy Fallon was a good host and way better than the Wayan's Bros. were. I thought the performances were not too thrilling. And can I just ask who ever told Shakira she could sing? I just can't stand her voice, and why did she sound so much better when she was a spanish singer, I thought she was great before singing in English.
Anyway, Pink, what a great example for kids huh?!! How proud her and Christina Aguilers parents must be, NOT!!!
As for GNR, great surprise but it probably would've been better if it was really GNR and not just 2 of the originals(Axl, and Dizzy)
Shall I go on? I also hated the way it looked, it drove me crazy.
They hyped up the Hives and Vines performance and I thought they both stunk, though I do like the Hives, I just think all the performers were just "off"!!
I did like P.Diddy's performance the best.
For those who wanted to know it was said that Moby was the the one who started booing Eminem, along with others around him. That whole thing is really childish.

DVCreg you are too funny, great costume idea!!;)

there's something strange about them. they don't feel live...

You know, I asked the same question last night and I was told that they were using a new technology that makes the live feed look pre-recorded. Is that stupid or what!?!
To me it make it look awful fake, I felt like I was watching American Bandstand with lip-sync!

Did you know that Springsteen continued to play live outside for more than an hour after he sang The Rising on the show?
