Is anyone considering postponing a trip?

I am wondering if we'll need to postpone our May trip because we're coming from Canada and the current testing rules are so onerous, despite our trip being under 72 hours. I didn't have too many Omicron worries until reading this thread. I'm now wondering if we haven't heard more about people catching Covid in amusement parks just because most visitors are Americans who don't have to test to get home or test before they return to work etc. If they did test, would we find a bunch of asymptomatic/pre-symptomatic results?
Testing rules can and have changed in relatively quick fashion (both eased and tightened), but we'll have to make a final decision no later than 30 days before our trip because we need to pay for our package.
I so miss international travel, but catching omicron was a wake up call for me - I can’t imagine testing positive to get back into the US and being stuck! However, it seems that this wave will peak long before your May trip, which is encouraging! Hope you still get to travel.

Believe it or not, my May airline tickets are purchased with trip credit from the flight I cancelled in December which was purchased with flight credits from a cancelled flight to Europe August of 2020 which was a reschedule of a trip to Europe for May 2020....

this sounds like me! My March trip airfare is paid for using credits from my cancelled November trip. Our January trip is paid for from our rescheduled May trip from last year... So much rescheduling and rebooking has been done. I ended up getting an annual pass so I can go a few times this year to make up for having to reschedule so many times in the past 2 years!
:lmao:

So, we did have a 2 hour direct flight and wore N95s and didn’t remove the masks from when we got to the airport until entering our hotel room. We did a lot of outdoor dining as a precaution, but did have a few indoor meals. Our tables were well distanced at each and we ate at off-peak hours. Kept masks on until food arrived and put back on as soon as finished eating. Obviously that was taking a risk but we didn’t realize just how catchy omicron was for vaxxed/boosted. We’ve done many Disney trips since covid, several before we were vaxxed (including last Christmas-New Years) and never caught it. It’s just so much more contagious.
I hear you- thanks for the detail....

We went end of July during Delta's peak and a super busy time and didn't catch covid. Vaxxed, wore a mask, sanitized, but did eat indoors a few times. With this omicron variant it seems no matter what you do, its not enough. We stayed home for Christmas and New Years - we saw nobody - and then the kids went back to school for two days last week (we had some snow days). On Sunday we all tested positive for Omicron. I guess the silver lining is that we'll have had it before our trip in March.

I was due to check in next Monday, and cancelled yesterday. Part was for health reasons, but food and merchandise issues also played into it, along with the fact that my phone is too old to support even the free version of Genie (I will be upgrading this year, but the phone I want has not been released yet) and I would be at a serious disadvantage without at least the free information. I might think about a day trip for one of the days my favorite artist is at Epcot for the festival, but other than that, I want to wait a little, hoping some of the supply problems begin to level out.

We postponed our trip for this week(jan 9-14). I(and my entire family) caught covid at disney over Christmas. Monday my Father died from covid and I spent the day at the hospital getting my body tested. Turns out my covid has developed into pneumonia. He was triple vaxxed and I wasn't quite due for my booster. We will be back at disney at least once in 2022 but I am glad we put off our trip.

This is so sad. I'm sorry you've lost your dad and you and the rest of your family are dealing with covid. I hope you can recover well as you grieve your father's passing.

We had ONE trip cancelled in March 2020. The flight credits were enough to cover our flights Sept & Dec 2020, Jan, Feb, March, & July 2021. And after that many flights, we earned enough miles to cover our flights for our trip later this month. :rotfl2:
Its the one small victory we've got to enjoy throughout this awful pandemic.

I'm so so sorry about your father. COVID is truly a thief - it has taken so many lives. I also hope that you start to feel better.

As someone who lost 3 friends to COVID in the 4 months, (and I'm sure you are already on it) but please stay on top of your symptoms. Two of those friends also developed pneumonia and waited a little too long to seek help when it got worse. If they had went to the hospital even a few days sooner, they may have had a better chance.

Is anyone considering postponing a trip?

Considered? well maybe for a miniscual split second. Ourfinal answer to the thread topic though: NOPE, we leave next week, We will have a good time, starting to think we might even have some shorter waits but we will see as it doesn't look like the times have dropped much. So if you are a person going know your not alone there are many of us that are going. If you decide to postpone I hope you have a magical trip when you are able to return and feel safe.

Just wanted to say how sorry I am about your dad. Please take good care of yourself.

I canceled my birthday trip, 12/21. It was too near family Christmas and not enough time for a short quarantine.

We are re-scheduled to take the camper to FW the week of Feb 27. I am excited because the flower show begins March 2 and we are having a Vlogger scavenger hunt! No plans to visit attractions with packed queues or eating indoors. Fingers crossed that the COVID surge decreases by the beginning of March, like last year.

At least Disney has mask mandates! I rode a packed Gondola last week while skiing in Colorado and not everyone was wearing a mask. 🙄 I am boosted and still healthy!

Get boosted and wear a mask! Stay home if you're sick....
There are mask rules but it doesn't mean they are followed...we were the only ones in our monorail car that were masked on the way to MK this weekend. (A total of 6 people unmasked). Hoping we avoided getting sick, but this was just 3 days ago, so it is too soon to tell if we were successful. We would have cancelled, but parts of the trip (staying off-property), were nonrefundable, so we got some better masks and avoided some of the indoor attractions and dining that we'd done in the past.

Without going into all sorts of details, because it could be a long post, I would cancel trips right now. My family, 17 of us were at WDW over Christmas, on property. Seven family members came down with covid. My parents are in their mid 80s. My Mom was admitted to a Florida hospital for about 36 hours, she was not boosted. My Dad got covid from my Mom, he was boosted. They stayed a week later than the rest of us at Orange Lake. My nephew, four years old was asymptomatic. One of my sisters, her husband and her two college kids came down within days after they returned January 2. My husband and I had a return trip planned early in March, which we have now moved to end of April. Hoping things calm down. If not we will move it, again. We are from the Midwest and East Coast.

So sorry for your loss. I lost my grandma to covid right before Christmas 2020. My heart goes out to you and your family.

We are definitely watching the numbers closely. I sure hope it starts to settle down soon. NYC is, and I think Orlando isn't far behind. We're scheduled for March so very hopeful.
