Is anyone considering postponing a trip?

I was due to check in next Monday, and cancelled yesterday. Part was for health reasons, but food and merchandise issues also played into it, along with the fact that my phone is too old to support even the free version of Genie (I will be upgrading this year, but the phone I want has not been released yet) and I would be at a serious disadvantage without at least the free information. I might think about a day trip for one of the days my favorite artist is at Epcot for the festival, but other than that, I want to wait a little, hoping some of the supply problems begin to level out.
I wouldn't be so sure about that. Many first-hand reports indicate that the free version of Genie isn't worth the price! Unless you think it's good advice to rope drop the carousel, that is. :rotfl2:

It's beautiful right now and for us PNW people, the weather is perfect. The crowds are lower than the holidays. Could not be happier we came this week. I have noticed a lack of some merchandise (probably due to the holiday crowds).

We will be there Saturday!! Hopefully crowds stay lower!! Have a magical trip!

We postponed our trip for this week(jan 9-14). I(and my entire family) caught covid at disney over Christmas. Monday my Father died from covid and I spent the day at the hospital getting my body tested. Turns out my covid has developed into pneumonia. He was triple vaxxed and I wasn't quite due for my booster. We will be back at disney at least once in 2022 but I am glad we put off our trip.
I am so very sorry

Many have been reporting since long before the holidays that merchandise is a challenge. A lot of supply chain challenges is believed to be the problem.

I know that's happening here a lot!

had to cancel this week's trip because of work issues. We are lacking people working and can't leave the job. so in effect it's because of covid, workers just leave, some don't come back, it's an in person , not work from home, daily job so we can't just leave it. (husband owns it). I'm finding it harder to get away due to this issue where there is a lack of work force. People are out sick or people don't want to work in office anymore. so in this case we can't just walk away and go off vacationing.

I just changed a first week of February trip to last week of April. I was perfectly fine with going (I’ve been several times and am going again in March and May), but my daughter was very nervous to fly and be around so many people. She currently lives by herself and works from home. She volunteers at a wild animal sanctuary twice a week, so when she interacts with people it’s either a small group of the same people or it’s over Zoom. She has anxiety, and I wanted to wait until a time in which she would be more comfortable. Perhaps we’ll even drive when we go in April.

We rode the carousel 4 times in a row this past trip. Our kids love horses. There should be a Direhorse/Banshee carousel in Pandora as well.

Our trip is over xmas and with covid and this new genie+ (which I know nothing about at the moment), I am thinking about waiting until 2022.

I dread any negative changes to covid policy and trying to learn about this new ticketing system. Final payment is coming up even though I think I would only be out $200 if I cancel in December which I can live with.

I am on the fence right now.

Coming from Canada, we may be forced to. But our trip is booked on DVC points that will otherwise expire in April... so we're sort of "half locked in" ... if we postpone, we lose those. That being said... it's not off the table to cancel/postpone...

We have a trip planned for 1/29 - 2/5, but we are considering postponing until early May. We are newbies and have no idea when crowds might be lighter. We know there is no longer a "typical" WDW crowd calendar. But when do you think the crowds might be lower?

Honestly, I think that past Feb, things won't slow down again until Sept (at best). Spring break really kicks things off - and then May-Aug are summer, etc. September can be lower but (a) it's hard to predict (especially not knowing about international travel) and (b) hurricanes can be an issue. I hope you find a good time, whenever it is

we have postponed twice. we were originally planning to go mid December, then pushed to march, and now we've pushed to may. we're going in may come hell or high-water.

I’m very sorry for the loss of your father. Hope you are able to take care of yourself during such a difficult time. Sending hugs and prayers.

We are very unsure. We have Disney Rental store booking for last week of February. We are flying from VT. Worried about what if we get covid right before our trip? We also have Discovery Cove w/Sea world tickets, and with that we have to cancel before 30 days out or we lose everything! With Disney Rental store, we would lose 50% of our payment. We are vaxxed and boosted, but still, omicron is spreading like wildfire in the school where I teach. I hope this is the peak and the numbers start going down in a few weeks.

We have a trip booked in mid February. We have delayed enough the last two years. Time to get back to living life. Done hiding under the bed.

This is how I feel. We have a trip booked in mid-February, one that we've been planning since August 2019. My big concern is the hassle of logistics if we test positive while at WDW, and having my daughter miss school to quarantine/isolate, etc. I am thinking of shortening the trip and then doing a longer one in the summer when I don't have to worry about her missing school. But I hear you, I want to figure out my own "new normal" and get back to some sort of life.

I completely understand postponing trips right now; I would likely do the same were I planning on travelling right now. Gotta say, though.... All these dates getting pushed back to May and beyond are making summer look like those TP 4-6 CL numbers are a pipe dream! :magnify:
ETA: They probably were never gong to stay that low, but I get the feeling they'll be nowhere near that when the time comes.

My family went to a trip to Disney anyway despite the Omnicron outbreak. Everyone in family was fully vaccinated with boosters and we wore double masks/ N95 masks whole time there. We all tested Negative 4 days after our last day in Disney and no one has any symptoms. So I think as long as your careful you should be fine and don't need to cancel. My wife and I did the Park Hopping option and Genie+ option and I actually thought both were very worth it and I don't regret purchasing it. In accounting classes in college our professor's favorite phrase was "time is money". When you want to get the most of 4 parks in 3 days and cut down time I think using the Genie+ and lightning lane options along with Park Hopping are excellent options to save time, but that's just my option. I haven't been to Disney since I was a kid 36+ years ago ! A lot has changed and I didn't remember much, so I wanted to see as much of all 4 parks in 3 days. We started at 9 am and finished at 7pm - 9pm each day, park hopped each day and used Genie+ and lightning lanes. Don't regret the extra money spent was well worth it IMO.

Thank-you everyone for passing along condolences and best wishes. Right now I think the biggest challenge is trying to reassure my wife, and family(after losing my father already to it) that I will get better. A week and a half later and I still have pneumonia. I think it isn't as bad as it was but it's definitely a big weight on my wife to do everything for our family. I always did all the cooking, groceries, finances, etc. My wife is a champ, but exhausted. I just wish that doctors could tell me what to do so I could do it and get better. It's almost a month since I tested positive.

Sorry, I think I have been reaching out to so many people today going through difficulties(I am a Pastor) that in my attempts to say thanks to everyone I apparently talked about covid sucking. Hoping that covid stops being such a pain in the butt soon so that we can get back to loving the "magic"

Sending positive and healing thoughts and prayers your way.

The best thing you can do to recover from pneumonia is rest. Unfortunately, it takes months for your lungs to recover and fatigue and shortness of breath may linger while your body still recovers.

If financially feasible perhaps invest in a meal order service a few nights a week and maybe hire a cleaning company to come every other week to keep your wife from burning out. If this isn’t in the card a financially I’m sure families from your church are eager to support you and some way and can maybe set up a meal train and do some errands for your family while you recover. Rest, rest, hydrate and ensure proper nutritional intake to help your immune system and lungs recover.
