Is anyone considering postponing a trip?

Our family (vaxxed and for DH and I, double boosted) has been masking when out in public, eating at home, etc. Until a few weeks ago we hadn't traveled but DH and I attended a conference. We wore our masks at all times except for eating. I tested positive after getting home, he didn't. I've got auto immune issues and it took me 2 weeks to stop testing positive, I'm still not feeling back to normal. I thought well at least I'll be "safe" from getting it again when we go to WDW in 2 months. CNN is reporting though some of the new variants are getting people sick who have just recovered from it! Ugh....... I really don't want to spend our 10 days locked up in a hotel room. I'm hoping that because it will be face of the sun hot and right before Labor Day that crowds will be low enough that we can find places to eat away from people.

Just back from a once in a lifetime family trip with my Mom, Brother & Nephew and Husband. I tested positive mid-trip. I had a horrible wicked sharp sore throat. That's why I tested. Plus I was hoarse and couldn't speak really. I lost my sense of taste and smell too. Had to quarantine with my Husband and Mother who I also got sick. Our vacation was ruined and miserable! I had a "mild" case but it is far from mild! Wicked sore throat, hoarse voice, fatigue, headache, fever, green mucus (sorry - gross), loss of taste/smell, plugged up ears. My Husband got it the worst of the three of us. He is on a inhaler, Tessalon Perles, just so he doesn't cough all night, and antibiotic as it turned into a bronchitis infection on top of it! We all officially tested positive. Husband was vaxed and boosted, I was double vaxxed only, Same as my Mom. It is no joke and not something to take lightly. We were the only ones wearing N95's indoors, on elevators etc. and it still got us. Not medical advice but what helped me a lot was ricola cough drops, vitamin c packets (Emergen-C or Airborne) and Tylenol. Even my mild case was awful. Today is the first day I feel somewhat "normal" and I'm 2 weeks post infection. *Edited to add that normally during the pandemic I waited for the cases to be "Low" community transmission. We would wear Masks around the park and inside the rides and never got sick once. Now with it being "High" community spread I feel like you could look in the wrong direction and get it. It's just not the best time to go in my opinion.
@onewishupon I'm mostly over it now after two weeks and I agree about the sore throat. I even googled it and one article I read said the sore throat was only in 15% of cases so I was sure I had something else. Where did you have to quarantine? Did you stay in the same hotel room? What did you do about meals? I'm worried about this for our trip in two months.

Just don't eat inside and you will be fine

Got back Saturday after an 8 day trip and wife tested positive today. So far she just has a scratchy throat. So far me and two kids are negative. Masked in all indoor spaces but did eat inside for some meals.

We recently got back. I would say that only about 1% of guests were wearing masks. Maybe 2% at the most. We wore masks indoors whenever people were gathered, but we did do a number of indoor meals --- where, obviously, you can't stay masked. And we did not wear masks outdoors.

We are all fully vaccinated and boosted.

Both of my teenagers got Covid at Disney. Neither is seriously ill (knock on wood), but they are both pretty miserable. I'm still testing negative, but am worried that, having had so much exposure to the kids in a cramped hotel room, it could still be coming. If not, that second booster might have made the difference.

This is the first time that anyone in our family has had Covid.

Thank you for sharing this. It's a good reminder for our family to tighten up practices.

I hope your kids feel better soon, and that you manage to avoid it. Your family sounds just like ours in terms of safety precautions and vaccines. We've never tested positive (yet at least), but are heading back to Florida soon. I had planned to do some indoor dining, wear masks indoors with crowds, and not outdoors. Hmmmm, what to do!

Ugh, so sorry your kids re sick. My DS & DDIL went for a quick trip last weekend, Saturday to late Monday. She started with a sore throat, body aches & low grade temp on Wednesday. Took 2 home tests Wednesday & a PCR on Thursday, all negative. Thursday & Friday mostly a stuffy nose. Yesterday her sinus congestion was much worse & started an occasional cough. Home test was + yesterday morning. DS still symptom free & testing negative.

They’ve been really careful since this all started. They’re vaxed & had the one booster they’re eligible for. They have been to WDW multiple times since reopening. I think 3 times in 2020, 4 times last year & this was their 4th time this year. They wear KN95s traveling & on WDW transportation. However this was the first trip they did not mask in stores or on attractions. They normally have mostly quick service with a few table service meals & visit a few lounges. This is the first time either of them has been +.

DH & I are supposed to go Sept 4 - 12. We’re booked club level & do lots of table service meals. We’ve had 1 booster but we’re trying to wait for the new variant specific booster. I am considering cancelling our trip. We cancelled 3 trips in 2020 but went 5 times in 2021. I felt comfortable then because we were fully vaccinated & some restrictions were still in place. But this variant seems to evade the vaccine so I’m more concerned again. Not sure what we’ll do.

My sister returned with covid from disney last week and was pretty sick (fever, loss of taste/smell which hasn't returned, etc.) plus vaxed etc. I am most probably going to cancel my september trip and wait for my september booster. I also have a sick pet that needs for me to be home to give meds to. My daughter got covid from disney vacation in May upon return but I feel certain it was from the plane (masked), long story why, but I'm sure of it. I have a trip booked for October so maybe if I have the booster by then I can make the trip in a more secure way. In addition to her being away on vacation for five days missing work, she returned to miss work for five more days and in person work so it's difficult to lose so many days.
I do however have a mnsshp ticket (2) for september....hoping they can refund or change it to october if i cancel

Our trip is over xmas and with covid and this new genie+ (which I know nothing about at the moment), I am thinking about waiting until 2022.

I dread any negative changes to covid policy and trying to learn about this new ticketing system. Final payment is coming up even though I think I would only be out $200 if I cancel in December which I can live with.

I am on the fence right now.

I'll tell you, we're on a major fence about this too. And there's no point asking for advice, because so many completely dismiss Covid now and Florida doesn't even report numbers anymore. For us, we had an annual pass purchased in 2019 for a 2020 trip that we had never activated. This past March we ended up going ( and activating our passes ). Parks were CROWDED. We wore masks pretty much anywhere indoors ( taking them off when seated with food at restaurants ). My daughter ( 25 ) got Covid on the way home, we think it was either on the plane itself, or in the last couple of days in the parks. The rest of us got home okay.

NOW, because we've activated our pass, we feel we NEED to use it at least one other time to "make it worth it". But then again, we're like... do we though? It's not *just* covid for us too, though that is a big component. Our last trip was marred with lots more stress than a typical disney trip. Major crowds, dirtier parks, having now to not only book dining, genie+ passes, but also day-to-day passes too. I don't say we didn't have fun. But man, Disney trips are becoming a *chore*. And I'm starting to see the "Sunk cost fallacy" of my thinking... Like Okay I spent "x" amount of dollars on this annual pass that I want to get the value out of ... But then again... if I skip the trip altogether and just let my pass expire.. I save the money I'd spend on hotel, food, flights...

Tough call, and at the end of the day, only we can decide what's best for our family and how we feel safe. Don't let others downplay it for you.

My upcoming trip in early October will probably be the most worry-free since the pandemic. Our household all got Covid ba.5 two weeks ago, and are 100% recovered now.

In ten major vacations in the pandemic era - 8 to Disney, 1 to Michigan, and another to Gatlinburg for a week, plus four big solo trips for my husband to Vegas and Florida Speed Weeks, none of us ever got Covid. Then my son picks it up at day hab just a couple of days after we got our second boosters. So we got Covid doing absolutely nothing, go figure.

It will be so nice to enjoy Disney without the nagging worry of bringing the virus home. I guess there is always the possibility of a radical new variant emerging; that will never go away. But for now we are about as protected as we can get, knock wood.

edited to add trips I forgot

I know what you mean. I had it in May and have felt more relaxed in the last 3 months than at any other time in the last 2+ years. Our next trip is in November, so now it's like an algebra equation trying to figure out protection level, booster or no?, etc. My husband has not had it (that we know of), he was sick in January and tested negative on the 1 rapid test we did (we'd exhausted our stash over the holidays for gatherings) so maybe he did have it? I tested negative on my first test in May but was positive the next day. I, presumably, had BA2.

So, given that November is still 4 months away, it's possible we'll get lucky, or there will be something new to contend with. Who knows! This trip has been twice postponed (it's with our adult kids and their SOs), so it's doubtful we'll postpone again.

We were there 07/24 - 07/31
My family (DH,DS,DD) are Vaccinated, boosted, and had covid back in January (my kids have had it twice Aug. 21 & Jan. 22).
My inlaws are also vaccinated, boosted and had covid in May
My parents are just vaccinated and boosted.
We flew, while my parents and in-laws drove. My Mom came down with covid last Monday and my dad tested positive last Wednesday. Everyone else so far has been fine, but My parents are the only ones who haven't actually had covid till now. My parents aren't sure if they caught it at Disney, or Buc-cees. More than likely it was Disney.

My parents debated on getting another booster before we went, but time caught up to us and they didn't. I think if they had their second one, it would have helped. So far they both have bad congestion, loss of taste & smell, and soreness. Definitely a spike in cases right now.

My husband and I had it end of May for first time and booked a cruise (went mid July) while we were sitting at home in isolation for the same reasons you said. DD9 never got it from us (PCR and antigen tested), so we still wore masks in crowded areas on the ship but ate inside. 45% of the cruise FB page tested positive within 3 days of the cruise end, but we were clear! Now school has started, so that may be a different story!

I booked some other reservations for October and March since just in case i can't go to september trip which seems highly unlikely due to a variety of reasons. it is defeating to keep making trips, which is hard enuf, but then more work to deconstruct the trips . they don't make it easy. each adr one by one cancelling, plus the resort reservation, then the mode of transportation, plane. it's so much effort. my ap is up in october. dh wants to renew. i had 60 days out today for my october trip and just felt like why bother if i will probably have to cancel it. then tried to get adr's and most were gone at 7 a.m. for 60 days out anyway. hard to get just a regular six p.m. dinner at a decent place. but will have to cancel it anyway , probably. ugh. thanks for letting me vent. just so hard, everything. booking, cancelling. booking, cancelling.

Just got back on Wed night from a four day trip. Wife and I both vaxxed and boosted. We both tested positive on Friday and we have been extremely miserable with sore throats, 102 fever, chills, etc. First time we have ever had COVID, and we have traveled a lot, including overseas and multiple Disney trips. Some of our earlier trips were when they were distancing and requiring masks, but at least one trip was during normal operations. I must admit that other than masking on some transportation getting to Florida, we did not mask or avoid indoor dining. Even though we are miserable, I'm not sure I would do anything differently and I'm glad we still took the trip. We had a lot of fun and I'm sure we will recover in a few days. But I think anyone going right now needs to be ok with the possibility that you will get it. Disney is still packing people into the queues, flights are packed, and most people are not masked. You will be breathed on and have people cough near you and there's nothing you can really do about it.
