Is anyone considering postponing a trip?

We decided today will be cancelling for mid-January. Disappointing as it was a reschedule from early summer 2020 when covid took off, but not the right time for us. May try for later in the year and change it to a combined universal-Disney trip.

We are planning on visiting for one week beginning on Jan. 29. Is anyone thinking about cancelling/moving your reservation? Is that even allowed? How packed will it be? Why do I have so many questions!?

I just rescheduled a trip that was supposed to begin today. You can cancel your Disney-property resort reservation up to 7 days before the start of the reservation or move it to a later date, like I did.

Your park tickets are non refundable but you can move those to a later date as well. You don't get money back if the tickets for your future date are less expensive than what you paid (you get a credit) and if your new dates are more expensive than what you've already booked you just pay the difference. All in all, it was really easy for me to handle on my own.

No. I'm not canceling and moving reservations anymore. DH and I are vaxxed and boosted. Both kids are vaxxed.

It's not so close as your trip, but I've got two out of town trips coming up in February (not to Disney World either, that's in April). Great Wolf Lodge in the early part of February and then Disneyland in the middle of the month.

You should read this: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/online-package-terms-conditions-2021/

We are visiting 1/22 to 1/29, and have not cancelled. We are off property at our timeshare; I did go ahead and pay the fee that allows us to keep our timeshare points even if we cancel the day we are supposed to fly. That is just in case one of us tests positive and we have to cancel. Otherwise, we have decided it's time to just go with the flow. We are boosted, and we're careful.

This will be my 4th trip do Orlando since the parks reopened; two of them made before we had our first vaccination. We've not had any covid issues with any of the previous trips.

I will probably go at the end of the month (DVC points would go into holding) but I might not bring my mother. If she still wants to come along, then she will.

All numbers are through the roof everywhere. Omicron for the most part does not respect the vaccinations.

Merged with existing thread discussing this topic. Many have shared information on this topic in posts above.
There is already a whole thread on this.
Thanks!! Merged it with the thread I believe you were referring to.

We're going the same week - 1/29-2/5. I'm vaccinated and boosted, as is everyone in our traveling party. My wife and I are just coming out of a mild case of covid. I'm more anxious about my father joining us, who is in every high risk group you could name. We've thoroughly discussed and weighed the options and have decided we are all staying with the trip. The crowds should be a little lower, which helps. Also being optimistic that we'll be on the better side of this surge by then. We've all been very vigilant through the pandemic, but considering that there is always inherent risk in going to Disney, that infections are likely to be milder thanks to the vaccines, and that we all managed to get time off to go at a more comfortable (weather-wise) and less crowded time of year, we all still want to go. I would suggest moving to the N95 masks, as you're certain to be exposed in that environment and they might reduce the risk of getting infected. Even a mild infection, if it happens early, could ruin a few days on the end of your trip.

I am the OP and cancelled my trip which was 12/23 to 12/30.

I just got an email from Disney for 20% off. I would give you the details of the offer but I am in a 30 min queue just to get to the offer screen. lol

Just to share our experience:

We thought we were fine to go over NYE and this week. We are vaxxed and boosted. We have N95 masks. We are vigilant about washing hands and using hand sanitizer. We even carry UV parasols, both for sun protection and because they provide some personal space.

A family member came down with what I think now was a severe panic attack less than two hours after we arrived at our hotel - extremely rapid heart rate, digestive tract issues. We got to see the ER in Celebration; we never did see the parks. When their heart rate stayed elevated for more than 24 hours, we cancelled the rest of our trip and came home.

So, if you are on the fence: honestly, cancel and reschedule for a later date. I wish we had. Would have saved an ER trip, plus additional stress for the person ill away from home, and buckets of disappointment. We are experienced park goers - we had Silver Passes for over a decade - and crowds don't faze us, but we apparently weren't mentally prepared enough to be in crowds during a pandemic wave. If it was a panic attack (the doctors are still ruling out causes - definitely not COVID), it would be their first ever.

I will say Disney was very gracious and helpful, giving us a full refund for our upcoming split stay reservations and allowing us to change our tickets to a later date without question. They also cancelled without penalty all the events we had reserved but the cancellation window had passed. Housekeeping called us every day and offered to secure additional medical assistance if we needed it. Universal, which was scheduled for the tail end of our trip, not as awesome - originally cancellation was going to incur a penalty of $200/person plus one night's stay; they later reduced it to a $200 flat cancellation fee.

Can you let me know the dates for your offer? I got the same email today but we still currently have a trip booked for 1/29 - 2/4 so I'm curious why I would have gotten this. When I tried to put in my last name and zip it said it didn't match their records so I don't even know what dates it's good for!

2 days before a quick weekend trip to run the Half Marathon, I thought we were about 90% sure to go. Barring widespread flight cancellations, I thought the trip was a lock.
My wife and I have done this many, many times. The kids stay with family, we fly down Friday, run on Saturday, have a fun Saturday afternoon, fly home Sunday. We have contingencies available, and it’s always gone off without a hitch.

Here's what happened in a 24 hour period (some of which directly affects travel, others directly affect our brains):
The Challenge The Result
My wife slips on a student's dry erase tablet (left on the floor) and hurts her wrist. Her legs are okay! She can still run!
Our childcare for the weekend gets COVID.Okay, this is bad, but contingencies kick in! Grandparents can watch them. Grandma just got a new knee, but the kids can help her out. All is well.
Our furnace starts shouting at us at 2am. No heat when we have 10 degree F temps.Technician was out at 8am, and the house is once again heated! We are good to leave the next morning!
My sister took my mom to the ERMy mom tested positive for Covid. They live about 1.5 hours away, and news is trickling in very slowly... I trust my sister to take care of mom... we can probably still go?
I have to pick up my daughter from school at noon for Covid contact tracingShe takes a test, and comes back negative! Good news!
Even negative for Covid, she's not allowed back at school until TuesdayOkay, we can handle this... we can drop her off at my wife's parents' house tonight... the other daughter can go to school on Friday... we can still do this?
My mom is sent back home from the ER. Her tests were okay, but she is very dehydrated and not getting enough nutrition. My sister is skeptical about sending her home, but the doctors think she's at more risk of catching something else if she stays at the hospital. She's getting prescriptions and ordered to drink a lot to stay hydrated. She's in good hands, though... we probably can still go?
At 3pm yesterday, we get a text from Southwest that our flight is cancelled. But there is an alternate flight that has a connection, and will get us there in time to visit the Marathon Race Expo... but...
I try and book the alternate and it's already sold out. That was pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back.

No other Southwest flights could get us to the Expo in time to pick up our race bibs.
There are a couple other potential flights from other airlines, but they are too expensive and would cause significant childcare issues, because we're not comfortable leaving our non-quarantined daughter at home for hours before boarding the bus.

We had been fighting and fighting for 24 hours to keep the trip alive, but in the end, we had to call the trip dead. I'm hoping Run Disney will take pity and refund at least part of our race fees (totaling almost $400), but they have no obligation to do so. We booked hotel with our DVC points that expire at the end of this month, so it's a long shot to get anything from those.

Right now, my wife and I are just in shock. We've spent the last 6 months training for this race and never seriously considered that we couldn't do it. I'm trying to console myself that at least I'm avoiding a trip to the Covid Capital of the USA. We invested in some N95 masks, but we probably would have been very uncomfortable among so many people. At least that's what I'm trying to tell myself.

We are now planning a full family trip for July, and will be driving down for that trip. It's just very painful to miss this race after so much training, planning, re-planning, and hoping.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about all that. Your lineup would be enough to make anyone want to hibernate, let alone try to decide if they could take a trip to Disney!

I will say, I do believe that things happen for a reason. And all of the things you outlined above... it sounds like something was trying to tell you to sit this one out. I think you made the right decision.
