Is anyone considering postponing a trip?

Before we go, I'll look at hospital occupancy overall. I like to know that treatment would be available for something in the rare circumstance something unexpected happens on vacation and will take a look at that before our trip. So far we are still planning to go on our March trip. If anyone is our party is not comfortable going, I am totally fine with them staying home and think they should.

For me what Doctor Fauci said about Christmas gatherings applies to some domestic travel too. If you are fully vaccinated and boosted, you have a lot of protection and don't need to live in fear. It doesn't mean don't take precautions or anything like that, but you can go ahead and live your life.

I'm one of those fully vaccinated and boosted people who just had a break thru case. My symptoms were milder than a milder cold and I would not have even bothered getting tested, except I was around others who had tested positive and decided to do that, so I would know whether I should limit activities so as not to infect others.

Just a heads up, we just returned from our trip dec 25-jan1 and now have covid. Both my husband and I are fully vaccinated and boosted and took all the precautions wearing masks indoors. I realized we were seeing spikes again with this new variant but we took the risk thinking what are the odds we’ll really catch it. And here we are. Such a bummer.

we all got it too it’s not 2020 Covid it’s like a cold now we’re all good now :). Yes we’re all vaccinated too except the 1 year old even he bounced back

We took a quick 3 day trip December 20-22 - two kids and me. We are now over a week out, and everyone is healthy, thank God. We knew it was a risk, but wanted to enjoy Disney at Christmas.

I have family members that have been super cautious - adults vaxxed and boosted and kids vaxxed - all mask religiously. All four had Covid over Christmas, even with staying home almost the whole time - only one adult went to work and back.

At this point, I think we all will either get or have had Omicron. I just hope it stays mild for most/all and spikes and ends quickly. There doesn't seem to be much ability to avoid it.

I hope you are feeling well soon! Do you regret going? We have gotten sick after trips to Disney a few times (the joy of traveling with small kids) but have always felt it was worth it in the end. As long as hospitalizations don't spike we are leaning towards going, fully accepting it means likely exposure to Omicron, but having never had Covid I don't know how naive that thinking is.

I feel like I was the same way. “Oh well I accept the fact that I *might* get omicron.” And knowing that omicron is mild/like a cold. Whatever varient I have isn’t mild or like a cold at all, I wish it was. I don’t believe I have omicron Bc I can’t believe I still feel this way vaxxed and boosted 😓. It’s an intense sickness.
Still no regrets, although I’m not a regrets type of person. We had a blast, it was my kids’ first trip ever. I just feel a little foolish now, but I’ll get over it.

Oh man! I worry that when they say "mild" they just mean you won't be hospitalized or die, but can still get really sick even if you're boosted and otherwise healthy. But, then I hear so many breakthrough infection people saying it was just like a mild cold or barely a sore throat. I guess "mild" can cover a wide range of intensity, which doesn't make traveling decisions any easier unfortunately.

I don't think you should feel foolish! We're all just doing the best we can to navigate this (hopefully at least) and what's best now is not as clear cut as it was at the beginning of the pandemic.

I hope you're on the mend soon and have lots of really great memories to look back on despite bringing home an unexpected and unwelcome souvenir!

I’ve got 99 problems and covid isnt one of them.

i chose universal last year over disney exactly because they didnt have a mask mandate. We did one day at disney with masks - never again.

we will not go back to disney world until they lift their mask mandate.

i also have another universal trip on the calendar, but will cancel that one too if they dont remove their mask mandate before our cancellation date as well.

Airlines have some of the strictest vaccine mandates in business for their employees, yet they are cancelling flights due to staffing shortsges from mass infections among their employees. Hmmmm..... but the airline tumult and cancelled flights is also a reason to consider postponing.

Our trip starts on January 9th and I keep going back and forth on whether we should go. We have been very cautious regarding Covid and have followed all the guidance on masking and social distancing since the beginning of the pandemic. We are all vaccinated and boosted if eligible. Part of me feels like we should wait, but the other part of me thinks there's never going to be a time when Covid isn't a risk. I never avoided Disney due to flu or other circulating viruses (not saying Covid is just like the flu) and now I'm wondering if I still need to keep my risk threshold much lower for Covid than for those, or if with a booster and the reported mildness of Omicron it's safe to accept a bit more risk? We are driving so travel interruptions aren't a huge concern, and we have the ability to isolate when we get home to ensure we aren't spreading anything.

I really miss the days when the things I stressed the most about when it came to trip planning was getting difficult dining reservations! Two years of analyzing the risk/benefit for all the things is getting really old.

We're in a similar situation -- supposed to be there on the 10th. This trip was originally planned for June 2020, and my kids were 3 and 7 at the time. It was meant to be their first visit. Now they're 5 and 9, and the trip has been booked/cancelled/rescheduled at least three times. My husband really wants to go this time because he feels that if we wait for the "perfect" time, we're never going to go. My mom is travelling with us and is on the verge of cancelling because of omicron risk. I'm in between -- I don't want to go without my mom, don't want to worry about getting sick the whole time, but also tired of planning/rescheduling and feel like life is passing us by while we cancel plans over and over. It's such a frustrating position to be in.

What would you regret more not having a once in a lifetime experience with your mother and kids who are the possibility that you might get a slight cold or fever. If this was when I first started I would totally understand, but I think I would weigh all risks and benefits.

yes, definitely have to have a more long-term perspective now. My mom is highest risk of the group so I think that's the sticking point for me. Also just wouldn't be fun to get sick *on* vacation. Does anyone know what Disney protocol or airline protocol is if you get covid while traveling these days? I think in the early days Disney would send you to quarantine somewhere - not sure how it works anymore.

I have a 4-night solo trip booked for late January. I haven't decided yet what I'm doing. I'm fully vaccinated and boosted. Masks aren't a problem. I'm glad to see that Disney is requiring them indoors for now. I work in an office where we have been required to wear them in common areas since the pandemic began. Our entire staff is vaccinated.

Because of the vaccine, I'm not terribly worried about getting extremely sick from Covid. As others have mentioned, there is more to it than that though. I'm taking a week off from work for the trip, but testing positive during the trip or when I get back would likely mean missing additional time from work the following week. It's not a good time for that. Testing positive while I'm at WDW would mean isolating and trying to figure out how to get home. I'm not going to fly due to all of the uncertainty that goes along with air travel right now. I should be able to make the drive in about 12 or 13 hours. Having a car there gives me a little more control if something happens.

If I go, it will probably be a different trip than what I had originally hoped when I made my reservations in November. I'm probably not going to stand in a crowd for fireworks. I might change some dining plans. I doubt that I will get to do everything that I had wanted to do. I've already paid for the trip, and I'm not sure when I would go if I had to rebook. The dates I picked in January just worked really well for me for a number of reasons. So, I'm looking at things day to day, and I'll wait until a little closer to time to leave before making a decision.

Exactly people should have choices if their afraid don’t go if they want to go then go.

There is a lot to consider aside from being "afraid". It's an expensive vacation, how far you have to travel, what responsibilities you have upon return, etc -- they all factor into a decision.

Disney is not a once in a lifetime experience when you can reschedule. Given the rules about exposure/quarantine, if you got sick AT disney, it would create a real dilemma (unless you shirked the public health rules) and if you get sick after disney, you could have an impact on other parts of your life/responsibilities.

I have family who probably think we are somewhat risky with our activities and I have friends who probably think we're hermits. Everyone has different things going on in their lives and have different personality profiles and health statuses. Everyone is just trying to make the right choice....for them. We went the first weekend of December but we're canceling our Feb visit. Our Dec visit was very short, "cheap" from the standpoint of using a companion fare, having a park hopper in our account, use DME. Our Feb visit is 6 people and MUCH more expensive. We're not willing to commit to it at this point so we're canceling.

Beautifully worded! February is more expensive than December?

When you go from 2 people to 6 (and are paying for all). You go from having to buy 2 people x 1 day at parks t to 6x3 days. You go from using DME to renting a minivan. You go from paying for 2 people to eat for 2 days to 6 people for 3 days.

Our next trip will be more than 3x as expensive so we don't want to have any concerns when we go.

One other thing that makes us feel our trip is risky. If this wave is still active in Feb, then it's possible that air travel will continue to get disrupted due to short staff. With such a short trip (3 park days, including arrival day), it could really blow the trip up if we got caught up in that. The other 4 adults are young professionals, and they'd be stressed about missing work if we got screwed on the return too.

Honestly, depending on who you asked in our travel party of 6, you'd probably get a different set of reasons they were wary, but the obvious conclusion was to delay/reschedule.

Yeah I am strongly considering blowing up my January trip at this point and trying again next year.

There's no vax requirement for indoor dining at Disney right? One of my main Disney joys is the restaurants and I'd feel better about going if there was...but I just feel like if I go now I'll inevitably get omicron and have to spend the trip at least somewhat ill (I'm vaxxed and boosted but the omicron doesn't seem to respect those clearly established boundaries.)
