Since Usair may not be around in Oct, and the fares for Air Trans undercut Usair by more than $200, I'm considering.

What do you think?

I will also be taking AirTran in August. You are right I was able to get airfare for 6 for $175 r/t. This will be our first flight with them.

I have hear that it is a no frills airline, but that does not bother me. You will have to check in 24 hours in advance to reserve your seat. We have 6 so we will be doing this.

I would go AirTran if I were you.

What do you mean by this? A phone call? I thought I read that you get your seat when you checkin at the gate.

With AirTran you can go online 24 hours before your flight up until (I think) 1 hour and pick out your seats. A picture of the plane's interioir will come up on your screen and the color scheme will tell you what seats are occupied and which ones are open. Pick your seats and print out your boarding passes.
You can wait until you get to the airport but this way you know where you will be sitting already.

We fly AirTrans all the time. They have always been great. We go down to Florida every three to four months and we were booked with them during a return trip during Jeane last year. They were flexible about the weather problems.

You can get you seat assignment on their website up to 24 hours before your flight and print your boarding passes or you can do it at the self service terminals in the airport. They board rapidly, so don't be late.

BTW if there are business class seats open, you can upgrade to theses seats for a fee. They are very comfortable!

When I booked my flights the AirTran Rep told me that as soon as your flight leaves the day before you can go on the computer pick your seats and print out your boarding passes.

She also said if business is available you can pay $35 extra for business class.

Sounds pretty good. We have a 7am flight, so we will be at the airport very early.

Sounds great! I am booking the 7am flight also. I would surely upgrade to business class for $35.

we also use AIRTRAN now all the time (3 years) new planes, seating for 2 on one side and 3 on the other. Pick your seats 24 hrs ahead.

I just booked ( today )  for this April 28 to May 6 at a web special. $79 one way and $49 the other. ( leave on Thur return on a Friday)If you can leave on a Tues or Wed and come back on a Wed, thur or Fri you can some times get $49 each way. You just have to keep checking dates. :wave2:

I've used AirTran twice in the past 4 months and they've been great. The only problem I ran into is we waited until we got to the airport to get our seats on the way home. We got stuck in the last row (full plane).

We either use Airtran or Southwest everytime we fly. If we can. We love Airtran's 24hr advance check-in. With SW you have to checkin after 12am the day of the flight which either means staying up very late or getting up very early to do this.

We flew on Air Tran on our way back from Orlando in Feb. We didn't know about choosing your seats 24hrs. before, so when we checked in all only 1 coach seat was available. So DD and I were upgraded to Business class for no additional fee. Really nice. We had a great experience! :flower:

My booking says...

- This fare does not offer advance seat assignment. You may select your seats upon check-in for your flight.

Does that mean online 24 hours before flight or at gate?

If your flight is at 7 am on Friday you can start your check in at 7 am Thursday the day before on line.

We flew from upstate New York non-stop to Orlando in December and found AirTran to be very nice. It definitely is a no-frills airline but the seats were comfortable and we were able to get a very good rate. The one problem we encountered was that we arrived at the airport only to find out there was a two hour delay - we could manage that so it really wasn't a big inconvenience to us - we just changed our dinner reservations by phone at Emeril's because we were going to be a few hours late. On the way back, we left on time and had a tail wind so arrived at our destination early. I think you will like Air Tran.

I have used Airtran several times since 2000 and have always found it to be very good! They are the only airline that offers a direct flight to Orlando from my airport, so they are usually my first choice. I've never had any problems! :wave2:
