I just want to be able to go online and check my e-mail, this board and stuff like that. I need to be able to plug the internet into it at times since the Disney resorts do not have wi-fi and it has to be able to have the ability to download pictures and video.

I got a Dell Mini last month and I haven't used my desktop since. I only use it for surfing and checking email and stuff. Its perfect if you are just looking to do that kind of stuff.

can I use it for storing pictures and video ??

Yes.

ETA Netbooks do not have a CD/DVD drive so if you needed one you would have to get an external, or a regular laptop.

I'm considering a net book for each of my daughters for Christmas. I'm thinking they'd be a good option because they're affordable, and I wouldn't feel badly about buying one now and then spending $$$ in a few years for a really good college laptop.

I looked at an Acer (?) today and thought it was cute and a good value for the money.

I know they won't run a CD program, but since we have a home computer, I don't see that as make-or-break item.
How about word processing? Can such a program be loaded up?
Can they be hooked to a printer, or would they need to transfer things with a flashdrive?
How are they for running simple on-line games? I mean simple kiddy-type stuff; my girls still enjoy those, even though they're teens.

I'd love to hear what people who already own these think!

I was playing webkinz, and dd was on club penquin on mine and didn't have any trouble. I wouldn't be able to play something like World of Warcraft on it. The only other games I've played is bookworm so I can't really comment on any others.
Mine came preloaded with Microsoft Works word processor and I can print on my printer via my wireless printer router.

My Acer, which I am using right now, came with a free 60 day trial of MS OFfice Student/Teacher. Which is what I have loaded on my desktop and laptop. I have not opened it on my netbook because I am not using it for anything work like. Ever! I don't know what MS will charge you to "Pay" for the version that won't expire, but if you were to but the boxed MS Student Teacher, it is anywhere from 99 to 130 dollars. Since the netbook doesn't have a CD/DVD drive, with pout an external drive, you will have to pay to download the regular version. I have a few pics stored on my netbook, and I also have SKPE on it as there is a built in webcam and I can chat with my friends and family on it. One thing that you should know, the screens can crack and are NOT covered under warranty. A cracked Acer screen will cost you $199 to fix plus shipping. Acer does offer a pay for warranty that will cover it, but they don't advertise it. I don't know about Dell or AZUS. I love my Acer and take it with me everywhere. Built in wifi modem, easy to fit in my purse, lightweight. The screen is small and I do have to use my reading glasses to see it clearly.
