is a food package worth it

i am considering getting some kind of food package.

since i will be using my points this year to stay at the poly, i will not have a kitchen.

for this reason my wife and i are considering getting some kind of food package.

would it be worth it for any of the packages? we have two 6 yr old boys as well

Hi, fflmaster. Personally, I prefer total flexibility when dining, so I do not get any sort of package. I don't want to be restricted, nor do I want to feel like I must eat three meals per day.

That is only my opinion, but you will get much more advice in the restaurant forum.

I never use a food package. It seem like you'd always have to have full meals in order to make it worth it. We have our big meal at lunch time, and a lighter meal int he evening---so packages just don't work for us.

I don't think you can get a "food package" while you are staying on points - I think that is only part of a cash package. You might want to double check that.

There are no savings on any type of Disney package offered by Disney. Their position has alway been it is offered as a convenience.

Definelty no add on packages for food on points. Cash only, min. 3 nights.

(Just checked as I wanted Prince and Princess for the other perks and it's a no go. Couldn't even have it on my cash night as it is only one night)

I agree though, food only is overpriced

We once tried the silver package (2 meals a day) and didn't really like it. The cost of each meal comes to about $30, which means it's wasted on breakfasts or in the fast food restaurants. On the other hand, we ran up over $250 for 4 people at Coral Seas, including lobster tail add-ons and everything else the kitchen could throw at us; for this meal the package saved us money. In the end we enjoyed the convenience but certainly didn't save a penny, we hated the tension of wondering whether we were eating enough to get our value out of each meal, and we pigged and pigged and pigged and pigged. We occasionally consider buying a 1-meal/day package (which is not always offered), which would be easier to turn profitable if you make all your reservations at the fancier restaurants. Now, having joined DVC and gained a kitchen, I doubt if we'll even do that.

I seems like you might come out better buying meal vouchers. Connections and HotwireSavingsClub sell them.

They had breakfast vouchers for I think 17.75 that were good at the character breakfasts and included taxes and tip for that price (nice savings there).

They also offered the Quick and Casual lunch for 11.50 and it includes: Lunch or dinner includes one entrée, one side dish (if not included in entrée), one dessert and a non-alcoholic beverage. These could probably be split for your boys. They were good at quite a few places including Liberty Tree Tavern and Beaches and Cream (which was a REAL bargain considering the wonderful desserts were inlcuded).


There's a Vacation Kingdom Lunch voucher that's good for the more upscale restaurants (Brown Derby, Alfredo's, etc.) It includes: Lunch includes one appetizer, one entrée, one dessert and a non-alcoholic beverage for $31.oo with taxes and tip included. I didn't buy any of these for our last trip since I thought they were high. One $200 trip to Alfredo's later and I was kicking myself! There's also children's pricing on the vouchers, but as DD is under 2 still I didn't purchase any and I'm not sure of the prices there.
