Nope - DVC doesn't play those games. They don't have to - it sells itself so the free or reduced price stays aren't needed.
Don't kid yourself! They might not offer a discounted price all the time, but they have their ways of doing it! My friend got a great rate last spring break for a 2 bedroom at SSR for less than I could get it for her on points with maid service everyday!
I just sat next to a lady on the bus two nights ago that paid for two rooms at a value resort for her family of eight and they called her at home to tell her she was getting a "free" upgrade to two one bedrooms at SSR. She paid about $1500 per room with free dining and everything! Meanwhile, I had just spent 8 nights at SSR (my home resort) in a studio, because we don't have enough points for a week in a one bedroom! Plus all the money that was spent on food! I have to say...not feeling the magic like I was!

I think these current incentives for cash customers (free DDP, free admittance on birthday, etc.) are a result of lagging attendance figures. Less people are visiting so they have to do something to generate cash flow. It might seem a disadvantage to a DVC member now but think about a few years ago (or a few years from now) when the parks were breaking attendance records and there were little or no incentives at all. It all evens out over the long run. Of course, one can always bank their points to next year and pay cash for their current year trip!

PinkTink I hear you, I don't have much room to talk yet because I am brand new to the DVC. I just dropped a bunch of $$ to buy points at SSR so my family could stay in a 2 bedroom for a week every year. I was a little taken back to find out that DVC do not get the meal deal for free like those that book through Disney. For all the money we spend on buying into plus fees I think it would be a huge benefit to at least offer a discount to DVC members for meal plans. I know we will enjoy it but sometimes it's nice to get some extra perks if you know what I mean.
or to be able to use points to buy a dining plan... I would like that option, not sure others would agree but that would be nice, less to save for.
