Is a CAMPFIRE all that important?

What is SO important about a campfire to you?

Does it make your camping experience more realistic?

Do you feel short changed because FW does not allow open fire pits?

We went to a state park and had to go inside our RV and turn on the air to get away from the smoke because so many fires were burning. Sure did not make our stay any better.

Are we the only non-smokers?

When we go to Big Scrub in the Ocala Nat'l Forest I like to do a campfire if it's cold. It's wide open at this campground and usually a breeze is going so the smoke goes away. Places like FW with all the trees around keeps the smoke low and if they did allow a fire the soot would be on your rv's and trucks. Not to mention your tables and everything flat. I think the campfire program and the grill is plenty enough fire for me. Another thing about a cf at your site would mean a mess for cm's to clean up and a longer wait to check in. It would definately take away that clean feel on your site.

We don't miss a campfire at Disney. We're usually too busy going to the parks and other activities to worry about a campfire.

Now at some of our other camping destinations, we would definitely miss the campfire because we plan on having one when we go. I think it's all in the plans and expectations for your destination.

Totally agree. Plus, if you want the marshmallow thing, you can go to the campfire program which is really fun. And, they tend the fire, which is nice to me.

YES! We enjoy a camp fire when we go camping. We were there in December when it was pretty cold and we used our encosed fire pit. We have toted the fire pit to FW many times and never used it.
I enjoy throwing a few logs in the fire place also. I think it pretty relaxing after a long day to hang around the fire and use it for warmth swap stories.
I don't smoke but I do like a campfire.

I do miss having a fire at the site. We go to FW to camp not to go to the parks. So we spend a lot of time at our site. I think the campfire program is great for kids and people in a rush but it is far from relaxing with kids running around waving flaming marshmallows on a stick and fighting for a spot by the fire. I would much rather have a small fire at my site. However, I do understand Disney not providing a fire pit. I shutter to think what some of the guest would do with a real fire pit after seeing some of the fires people build in the BBQ grills. Not to mention burning everything that is not nailed down.

I've gotta say FW is the one place we don't miss a campfire. I like to hang our towels out and not have everything smell like smoke. We are usually there for a couple weeks, so the less wash I have to do the better.

Non- smokers here.
And all the years I have camped I have never build a campfire...now that being said, I went over to my dd house and they bought a fire pit, I thought how stupid..( they needed a kitchen table ), but my sil insisted on building a fire and we sat around it and did hot dogs , I have to say it was alot of fun..have to be a kid at heart I guess.

If I were at FW in July or August..then I think I could skip on the fire. However in the cooler months, I think I'd rather enjoy a fire. It's part of the campimg experience for us.

We enjoy a campfire when camping - it is part of our wind-down before the kids go to bed. I find it so relaxing to sit by a (small) fire at the end of the day. We always have a snack of some type on the fire - our favourite is banana boats. However, at FW we love going to the singalong/campfire/movie when we are back early enough. To us, that is as much a part of the FW/WDW experience as going to MK. I agree that if fires were allowed at the individual sites it might create a problem. I don't miss my own fire at FW, but I do like to have one elsewhere.

For us, a campfire is a big part of camping. When we get rained out, we're all disappointed. That being said, I don't think we'll miss a fire at WDW because we're planning on attending the group campfire. Besides that, we'll be too busy to sit and relax around a fire. To me, the best time of day to be in the parks is evening/dark.

Mmmmm, banana boats, I haven't had one of those since I was in the girl scouts. Is that made by slicing the banana down the middle and putting chocolate bits inside, and wrapping in foil? Is there anything else in it?

We camp in the Spring and Fall in upstate NY and love a campfire then, it is a way to get warm, and we just like sitting around the fire and talking, roasting marshmallows, we go to Disney in August, and have no desire to have a fire, it is warm enough..... Instead we enjoy going to the pool at night.
So yes, we love a campfire, just don't need it everytime we camp.

When we stayed at the Fort in 96 we didnt mind not having a fire as the camper was for sleep only we ate and spend most of the time in the parks. Now if we are going to go camping as the main attraction not theme parks. Fires are a must. Nothing like sitting by a fire relaxing and roasting a mellow.

When we camp with the Cub Scouts we "Always" have a campfire. All the parents sit around it and socialize. The boys cook Marshmallows and Hotdogs. It is a very relaxed atmostphere. (we are non-smokers). A campfire doesn't smell "Nothing" like cigarettes, at least not to us.

When we are FW we don't miss the campfire, we are usually to busy. We do go over to the campfire sing-a-long to cook marshmallows. We stay long enough for the sing-a-long and for DS to cook a couple marshmallows.

We like campfires when it is cold and have done one on each of our camping trips except for our very first.
However, we didn't miss it at the Fort.

We purchased a covered fire pit just for FW and use it whenever the temperature is cold enough, usually around Christmas and New Years. Nothing like a warm, hickory burning fire to make a camping trip even more enjoyable. Ahh, the smell of hickory...makes me want to go camping right now! Especially since I want to try one of those Banana Boats!

We used to slice ours, leaving the skin on, stuff, wrap in foil and bake. We found that the kids tended to scoof into the skin and get the bitter taste (in the dark), so now we slice the bananas right onto a piece of foil and everyone tops with their favourites: chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, peanut butter chips, mini marshmallows, even peanuts or skor bits. You just pile on whatever you like, wrap and heat. If you have trouble remembering whose is whose on the grill, mark with a Sharpie or shape your foil differently. Mmmmmm, just might have to see if a microwave version will hit the spot!
