Is 24 days too long?

we have been for 23 days a couple of yrs ago in august-3rd-26th had no probs apart from more crowds because of the free dining plan...
we stayed in a villa which we prefer to do. this time we are going for 17 days.

hi Burt

we stayed for 3 weeks this august the first week the weather was fab but we had ts fay which ment we had about a week of rain. I think if we had only gone for 2 weeks we would have been dissapointed. You will find that those days will go by so quickly! We are hoping to do 3 weeks in June when ds has finished his exams.

Thank you for all your replies, Just got of the phone from confirming flights so let the planning begin. We fly out the 10th August and return 3rd September:yay: :yay: Im sure there will be loads more questions i need to ask in the near future:thumbsup2

Like Johnny I would prefer to do a split stay for that length of holiday. I would definitely enjoy 24 nights in Orlando and there is plenty to do that would more than fill that amount of time but after 3 Orlando only trips (visited BG and KSC for day trips) I really want to explore more of Florida and the south :) Next time we'll probably only do a week in Orlando and go further afield for the rest of the holiday.

We have 3 weeks booked in December and 3 weeks next August on the free dining plan at Saratoga Springs. I would seriously consider upgrading to Saratoga Springs or Old Key West during the free dining. You will then automatically get the upgraded dining plan and when I priced it up, it wasn't much more expensive to stay at SSR. Plus the rooms at SSR offer a lot more room and it is truly a fantastic resort.
Oh and I definitely do not think 24 nights is too long.

Hi Portugal - only problem is because we are a family of 5 only por or yacht/beach club do a room for 5 without upgrading to 2 bedroom property and that does become expensive if we were a family of 4 we would definatley have tried somewhere different.

Hi Burt
You took the plunge then:lmao: Who did you book the flights with in the end? What did you pay?Just curious hun:lovestruc

Most definatly NOT.

We went for 21 days in June and I was so NOT ready to come home.

Yeah i lost my bottle and took the plunge!!! im sure if i had waited we could have probably got a better deal but decided in current climates and the way prices seem to have been going up we just wanted to know we could get the dates we wanted. Booked through Charter travel flights with Virgin - just got to decide where and how long to stay for now, its either 3 nights onsite universal and 3 weeks on site at disney, or maybe first 3 or 4 days at the coast st petes or clearwater followed by 3 or 4 days at universal and then finish of at disney.

Hi Burt,

We are booked for 27 nights next August -7th until 3rd Sept. We are also a family of 5 and are staying at Beach Club for 21 nights with ddp then doing 6 nights at Portofino Bay at Universal - can't wait - we've only ever done 2 weeks before and it was never long enough!!!

Claire.

I would definately break it up with the coast. You wont regret it. 3 weeks ....Hey no problem :confused3

Thats what we did in 1999, had a break at the coast and totally regretted it, one of the worst decisions we ever made in Florida, we didn't like Clearwater and went on Virgin coach so no car. Would maybe go for a day to coast but would never stay there again. Others love staying at the coast.

Hi Claire

Lots of people have said to do universal last because of the fotl passes on your room key but we just cant imagine the last couple of days not been spent at disney! We looked at the beach/yacht club villas and they do look lovely so we are still unsure what to book accomodation wise, mainly because we loved POR on our last visit especially the boat to downtown disney but then again the bc/yc has the advantage of walking distance to epcot and HS - desicions desicions lol

Do you have a car Claire or rely on disney transport?

Like you say it's all personal preference, no right or wrong way. I like Clearwater, one of the best beaches I have been on, though I wouldn't stay there for more than 3 or 4 days it offers something priceless - a change of scenary, something different, which for me isn't a bad thing.

Others like to just stay in Orlando, which these days is what we tend to do for Joshua's sake but prior to that we have travelled all over the state.

To be honest it baffles me why more don't venture out of the Central area more, don't get me wrong I love Orlando for the attractions but take them away and there are much nicer places to visit and some fab beach locations too (I know you don't 'do' beaches Wayne)...
Naples for example is brilliant, quiet and refined - offers a total contrast from the theme parks and as a city is more attractive than Orlando (in my opinion).
Just seeing the sun go down in the evening on Naples beach, shopping in Miami or walking down Coconut Grove and South beach, driving down the coastal A1A road through Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, driving through the Everglades at night :scared1: ...ah memories ;)

How many of us would visit Orlando if WDW, Universal etc were not there? probably not many...I think we would still go to Florida though because we like so many other things about the place.
When we think back on our holidays and the memories we have , most of them naturally are about our son but all the rest are about the many places we have been fortunate to visit and not necessarily riding 'Spiderman' or 'Splash Mountain', for 24 days it's too good a chance to miss (in my opinion of course).

For us there is such a thing as Disney or theme park overload :) kind of why we haven't been back for a couple of years now but I wish we could go for 24 days though Josh would be fed up by the end I reckon.

Sorry Burt - I will shut up now.

morning
we have a condo at venetian bay so for us we dont have to worry about accommodation. One thing I wish I hadnt done was book the hotel in advance when we went to tampa. I booked with holiday rooms direct but the weather was bad and we would not have gone then. Still it was nice to see clearwater and busch gardens but the rain was awful!!

I think 1st few visits there is plenty in central Florida but agree after that you need to explore other areas, this last trip we did a long drive upto Georgia, day in Daytona another in Cocoa Beach and 4 nights on a cruise. Although we could easily enjoy 24/25 nights around Disney its more enjoyable to explore.
For beaches I love Castaway Cay(DCL) or Cocay Cay(RCCL) with lots going on, snorkeling, fishing trips etc just hate sitting on a beach doing nothing.
Too right though, no right, no wrong the key is finding whats right for you.:goodvibes

Good morning Johnny, no need to shut up m8 i always value your opinion. I think the one reason we dont venture out too far is because i just dont like driving in florida - that and the fact the kids love all things disney!!

Is there much to keep the kids intrested at clearwater/st petes what i dont want is to get there and hear constant groans of when are we going back to disney, which would you choose to stay at clearwater or st petes?
