Is $206 good or should I scrap it?

I've been checking car rental rates for May 25 - June 2 (9 days) since November. At first the rates were going down almost weekly but since late-January that hasn't been the case. I have a rate of $206.91 for a compact from Dollar locked for our dates. That rate includes all the taxes and fees. Do you think this is a decent rate? I don't think its horrible but I remember getting a minivan in 2005 for same amount.

A car isn't a huge must for us. I've budgeted for it and cost isn't an issue. I am also one of the rare breeds that doesn't mind Disney transportation. It will certainly make driving to and from ADRs more convenient and we'll use it almost daily - but it isn't a must. I just don't want to be taken advantage of. So what do you think of this rate?

Well, national quoted me 308. w/taxes/fess from tpa, JUST 4 days ending at Dolphin @ DIsney. This is with a discount of 110.55 and another discount of 82.91 and emerald reserve, fullsize!
I am personally having the MOST difficult time trying to get our transport from tpa up to Disney...first time we are traveling from somewhere before DIsney...UGH! (something I cannot change by the way)
A private car was 167. for the one way trip for three of us.
Our heads have been spinning...... (late June)

It is a decent rate but you could do a little better. I found a rate of $175 with all taxes and fees for your dates with Alamo here:

http://www.carrentalsavers.com

If you have a visa you can use their visa discounts page for a rate of $165.

Also keep checking, even though the rate may not have changed for awhile it could still go down some more.

You'll probably wind up doing a little better, but certainly do not cancel what you have until you find something.

Its a little early for "last minute" discounts, but they sometimes come up. Your time is over Memorial Day weekend, so there may not be many discounts.

If you're a member of a warehouse (Costco/BJ's) or have an Entertainment book, try those codes or maybe try Wal-Mart codes. I'm seeing Alamo rates for your time period very close to your Dollar quote...and thats with no discounts applied.

Wow that is a great price! I checked for the week we are going 7/24-31 and its $404.81 for economy with Alamo.

I have a 10 day rate Sept/Oct with Alamo using a BJ's $40 OFF 10 DAY coupon Midsize $205 with All fees and taxes. BJ's site will show you the link. You must print the coupon and manually put it in as it doesn't show with the BJ link. It will accept it fine and display THE DISCOUNT in the price! :thumbsup2

I'm getting a National rental quote of $166 (including taxes and fees) for the May 25-June 2 dates. Using the Continental Airlines contract ID (found on Mousesavers.com) and then the $40 off coupon.

Also be aware that you can join the Emerald Club for free from the Mousesavers.com site.

Let us know how you come out!

Okay, thanks everyone. I'm doing much better. I'm down to $188. And I'm looking more. Couldn't have done it without you.

We don't have BJs here in south Texas. Can I still use the BJs coupon or do I need membership. If I can use it I can save an extra $20.

Most likely, you would not need to show BJ's membership, especially if you check in at the kiosk and not the rental counter. However, they could ask for your membership as you exit. Rare, but it could happen.

Tried Costco and got it down to $180.00. I have an old BJs card from when we used to live in NY so I guess under duress I could supply that. I'd like to do it on the up and up if I could.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I really appreciate it. I told my co-workers over and over again how great the folks are on the Dis and they just don't get it. Makes me wish I could have you at the office too.

I'm down to $168! This is a frenzy now. I'm having more fun than Vegas.
