Is 2015 The Year To Skip WDW?

We have a trip planned/booked for Sept 2015, but... What's going on in the HUB, and when is it slated to be over? I would hate for Soarin to be under refurb this coming September! It's my favorite ride. This is not confirmed right? Dan

Pretty sure that a new movie has been filmed for Soarin. I am only guessing that the implementation will cause some disruption. I can't imagine it would be closed for a long period of time considering its popularity. They may be constructing another theater to increase capacity, but again I know of nothing set in stone. But if Soarin is down for any amount of time, forget about riding Test a Track for a while.

I think you are being overly optimistic in thinking the construction will be done in 2016. I believe Fantasyland took 7 years to complete and Avatarland isn't expected to be completed until 2017, at the earliest. As far as DHS, maybe Disney will have announced construction plans and walls may have been erectedby 2016, but I'd be stunned if anything were completed any sooner than 2019. But I aggree with Kapoof, the FP+ disaster is my biggest complaint.

Believe me, I don't expect any Disney construction projects to ever be completed within a reasonable amount of time. Nothing will be done soon, but it just seems it's all happening at once. Seems like a good year to go to DL.

There will always be refurbs and construction, as others have said, but I think they are over the top right now with everything they have closed, walled off and plan to close in the near future. We are still going in 2015, and will have a great time, BUT the large scale reimagining is too much for one period of time. Just my opinion.

I was there twice this year. I hated the hub walls--it just felt very closed off and crowded with them up. DTD was a nightmare--especially when it started raining. The congestion with the walls was awful. The Poly was so closed off too. It's just not a great feeling at all. Didn't even try AK! We had a good time but we are skipping 2015 for sure. I can handle some walls but it's a little overboard right now. I don't prefer for the walls to be in the major places you see almost immediately. Those are areas that should be high priority for finishing quickly. We will keep an eye on the plans and reconsider next year for 2016.

We are skipping 2015...We want to go back after things start to reopen and there are new things to see/do. We discussed a Disney cruise but landed on a trip to Disney's Hilton Head instead. We waffled back and forth on the Disney trip and just decided this is a good year to try something new not so much that we are "upset" with Disney or disappointed. It's just a better fit for us this year.

Are there still walls up by the HUB? I searched and couldn't find an answer.

If they are still up, when are they planned to be down?

Dan

I recently saw pictures of the hub construction on a blog, I can't remember which site. They're still working on it, but I believe at least one side should be ready for Christmas week.

I know this is terrible, but I'm secretly hoping the construction and closures scare some people away in 2015. We're going the week before through the week of Thanksgiving, and this is our first trip outside of our normal September trips, so I'm kind of freaking out about crowds. :guilty:

I feel your pain.
Spring break crowd levels are keeping me from giving in to m DH. We usually go early December.

Spend more time at Epcot! Only changes I know of are Norway and Soarin' and I haven't been paying attention to completion dates for either.

I am visiting my DD in California in March 2015 and that is my one "big" trip until 2016. Then to WDW for sure!!

My list of other places to visit is lengthy but by 2016 it will have been years since I visited WDW and my DS hasn't gone since 2000.... of course I did take him to Great Britain twice since then!

I think Maelstrom/Frozen is the only confirmed change coming to Epcot. Soarin' is still just rumors at this point.

Won't quite a bit of the walls be down at DTD by the end of 2015? I know that Disney Springs won't be near complete but there's always a lot of construction at the start of projects.

I will agree that the hub construction does take away from the trip a little for us. It's not going to keep us from going as our family is DVC members. I also have a little selfish hope that it does keep the crowds down a little in 2015 ;)

We will be there for part of that time period. When do you arrive?

I love going and do an annual mini trip. I was actually thinking of doing what you are thinking about -- going to Disneyland instead in 2014. But lol after pricing flights and lodging, seeing how far Disneyland was from LAX, looking at rental car prices there and how much longer my flights would be, I booked Orlando again (I could do a week trip in Orlando (seven nights/six days) for the price of four nights/three days in California with similar quality lodging, and since I just love Orlando it was a no brainer for me to do Orlando again. I looked at touringplans.com, and it really looked like I could have good days at the parks and get plenty in, even with FP+. Anyway, I leave for Orlando this Saturday and am really excited. For me right now WDW is more fun than ever, and I've been going since 1971.

I hear Disneyland is wonderful too, so look at that if interested. For me personally - the way I travel and for my dates, the higher costs and travel time to California when I looked at it seriously just couldn't compete with another WDW trip. But that's just me of course.

Holy Wallapalooza!!!!:eek: Dang, I didn't even know about that!!! Major stuff.

Thanks for sharing.

I just hope it's all wrapped up by Sept 2015. I assume no timing has been given?

I love DLR. I know a lot of WDW fans are disappointed, but as long as you know what to expect, I think it's an excellent place to get your Disney fix.
Basically, it has the same amount of attractions in 2 parks instead of 4 and park hopping there is the very best, since it takes 5 minutes. It is just so much easier than WDW, but that's just my opinion.

At this point, 2015 will be the first year since 2001 that I won't spend at least one day in a Disney park.

Granted I am going to Aulani, but when I was having trouble booking, I was not at all excited at the prospect of going to WDW instead. I may have reached my breaking point.
