Is 10 days too long?

DH and I are planning our next trip to be 10 night/11 days in May 2007. We've alway done a week in the past and found that you either had to go commando and be exhausted at the end of your vacation or we took it easy (resting in our room or at the pool in the afternoon) and didn't get to do everything that we wanted. I'm figuring that 10/11 days shoulr be a good amount of time to get everything done and relax in the afternoon. Have a great vacation!

It is definately not to long! Go and have a great time. You will want to stay twice as long next time. ;)

I'm going to agree with everyone else...10 days is not too long..especially if this is your first time to WDW...You'll get to see and do everything you want and not have to go park commando. Dbf and I are going for 16 days this year and can't wait. We take it very easy and only go to the parks like 4 or 5 days of that time. We'll go to a water park, hang by the pool alot and do some nice leisurely shopping and resort exploring. We've each been to WDW too many times to count (and we're only 22 and 24) but each time there's still something new that we've never done before. have a great trip!!!

Just chiming in to agree with most of the other posts here. 10 days seems ideal to me.

DH and I don't have kids and the first time we went to WDW without my parents and nephews we spent 7 nights and at the end of the trip didn't feel like we'd had nearly enough time to see eveything that we had hoped to! :teeth:

And I'm one of those people who grew up going to WDW almost every summer beacuse my grandmother lived in Orlando.

Personally I think you're approaching your first visit to WDW in just the right way. You have built time into your trip which will allow you greater flexibility, always a big plus when you have little ones. And you will be stunned by just how big the place is and just how much there is to do. After all these years we're still finding new things to experience.

We're doing ten nights in October this year...can't wait!

Enjoy your trip - if you're anything like the rest of us around here it won't be your last!

Just got back a week ago from a 11 night/10 day WDW vacation and it was PERFECT!! We are all Disney fans but I have to say that I could have stayed a month longer. LOL

Hey Mannasn,

My family & I always go for 10 days, in fact we go every other year just so we can have a longer holiday. IMO 10 days makes our trips much more enjoyable because you don't have to do Disney "Commando" style. We have enough time to take breaks during the day (we go in August, when it is nuclear "hot") and stroll the parks at a leisurely pace. You also get to enjoy your resort (most people never appreciate the hidden pleasures there) This year we are taking a day and going to seaworld.
Believe me 10 days will go in a flash!

My wife and I have been taking 2 week trips every winter for the past 6 years.

We spend about a half day at the Bass Pro Shop in Orlando (about a 15 min. drive), and if it's cool or raining, we spend another day at the Gaylord Hotel. Lots to see there, gators, trees, flowers, etc. and it's all indoors. But wherever we go, it's always great to get back to Disney!

Never bored... always something to do.... always sad to leave.

Well, my family has me terrified.

We're planning our first trip to Disney... heck, our first family vacation ever. It will be myself (28), DH, and our two boys (7 and 4). We're flying down and staying 11 days/10 nights at ASMo.

Everyone (non Disney nuts) says that 10 days is way too long and we'll be exhausted rather than having a good time.

What do you pros think? Should I shorten up the stay?

It actually makes the trip more wonderful. Take a break here and there. Visit all the different resorts one day. It's delightful. The short, breakneck speed trips are what leaves you needing a vacation after your vacation. Did 9 days. 5 in parks. One at water parks. One at Downtown Disney. 1 checking out all the other resorts. And one at our resort- fishing, riding bikes along river, swimming and RELAXING!!!!!!!

I'm glad to hear so much positive input! Thanks, yall!

That's what I was hoping to hear - we are planning on such a long trip so that we can take things at a slower pace... actually see some of the things we want to see, but not feel so "rushed" (commando?) in the process. :)

We're headed down May 7-17! Can't wait! :)

We had a 10 night visit last March, and we'll have another one when you are there -- May 5-15, staying offsite in a pool home (I don't know how we would do in a hotel room that long, but that's just us). We find it is the best way to have a relaxing vacation at WDW. With our shorter trips, we rushed around. Our boys are now 4 and 6 and they, of course, love the longer trips!

Maybe we'll see you guys on Buzz! LOL!

Have a great trip!

My longest trip has been 17 days, shortest 12. Anything shorter for us would make the trip to hectic. With this amount of time we have plenty of time to take it easy and enjoy our resort too. We do not come home feeling like we need a vacation from our vacation. 10 days is not to long by any means. Ignore those people that don't know or like Disney and do what you want to do with your family.

Have a terrific trip!

This would be me ---------> :cloud9:

imagine, me, sleeping, soaking in the hot tub, on rest days. ahhh. going to the castle ... ahh... ok I'm getting carried away. 10 days would be super duper!

You mean there are people who go for less than 10 days? :earseek:

The more days the merrier! You have time to take it slow, not trying to see everything in just a couple of days. Have a great time!

Boy I wish for the day when I can spend that long in WDW, our last trip was 7days and I thought it was too short :sad2: Guess that makes me a little Disney spoiled, oh well I'll live with that!! :rolleyes1

There is never a "too long" amount of time to go to DW. Plan your days though. Afternoon breaks to the hotel.

Thanks for all the input!

Due to my hubby's stinky job, we had to cut 3 days off our trip! Waaah!

Ah well, guess I should be thankful we're going at all! :)

For us, it takes us 2 days to get there and 2 back (we drive), and not including those days, we used to stay 4. Then it went to 5. Then 6. Now this trip it'll be 7. 4, 5, 6 days = pure exhaustion for a good 2 weeks after the fact and literally dragging yourself to the parks each day (for us anyway). Not fun. Somehow I doubt 7 days is gonna be a lot better this time (namely because we have 2 Braves spring training games and 8 ADRs added into the mix too, as well as our standard trip to Sea World), but it sure beats 4. Whew.

I would kill to spend 10/11 days at Disney!!! Our trips at the longest have been 7 days which always seems like a lot but by the end we are exhausted and wishing we had more time to just relax. We definitely were able to see all the parks, etc. in that time so it was fine but I felt like we didn't fully enjoy the resort and the pool and some sleeping in! When we left this last trip we both said we either stay longer next time or we go someplace completely different that has more relaxing involved.....who were we kidding, how can we go someplace other than Disney?!

I wish I could talk my DH into goin' for more than a week! I keep threatening him with a "girl's only" trip.

IMHO, there's a very line between an Orlando visit that's too short and one that's too long.

That stated, here's my sense of our recent experience with a "longer" trip (eleven full days -- split between Disney and Universal -- last August).

While we enjoyed ourselves tremendously (partly because the length of the trip allowed us to take a relatively relaxed pace, this was defintely not a commando style vacation), towards the end of the trip I feel we were definitely "hitting the wall" in terms of park/activity fatigue.

By day eight or so, things just didn't seem as fresh, and the excitement level was clearly wearing down. As my spouse pointed out then, no matter how wonderful everything is, one can start to experience what she labeled "fantasy/theming/resort burnout." Even if you vary things (as we did, the MK and Epcot were the only places we visited more than once during the trip), your eyes inevitably start to glaze over at some point.

So, while every family is different, I'd think about the reasoning behind the old saying "too much of a good thing."
