My Brother and wifes refunded was shorted because of brothers college loans. His wife is the only one working now and wants to get her income taxes back to refinace there house so they don't lose it. What would be the fastest way to file to get it back. They orginally had a friend do there taxes.

If the government garnished the tax refund because of an outstanding federal student loan, I think that's a closed issue. If he was overdue on a loan, they had the right to take the outstanding amount from his (their) refund.

Hope your brother and SIL find a way to earn enough to stay afloat... :guilty:

Its an outstanding loan. The injureied spouse thing says she can get her portion of the income tax back since its hers.

My husband and I filed seperate 2 years ago for this same reason.

I dont think there is a "fast" way to get the money back. They will have to fill out the Injured spouse for and sent it in.

:moped: have them take it to there local office and have them file it , they will check it and stamp the pages and send it on....be sure to have them write injured spouse in big letters at the tops of the pages, this seems to be the fastest way. :rolleyes1
