Has anyone not received your check after it was mailed? All my friends and neighbors have received theirs already. Ours showed the mailing date (same as some of my friends) and we did not get it yet. The IRS site says you cannot contact them until the end of the month. Thanks.

Well I would've gotten mine in the first wave of checks...however the IRS has decided that despite receiving the tax credit for two children under the age of fifteen on my 2002 taxes that for some reason or another I cannot receive this advance. I tried having them explain it to me, but despite being a well educated person I still have no clue as to why I'm not getting it.

Oh well...it's not like we were expecting it all along anyway.

If you haven't already, check their website... www.irs.gov there is a place on there where you can check the status of your check.

If it says you are to get one, it will also give the mailing date for it. You will also get a reference number o use hen you call them and after gettting this number you can call them immediately, you do not need to wait intil the end of the month.

Also one other thing. You haven't by any chance moved since your last return? Are you sure you address was correct on your return, just some thoughts.

Good luck!

Hi guys, Thanks. I did receive it today!!!! I just got panicked since everyone around me had got theirs (same mailing date). I'm not sure why mine was held up. Thanks for your advice.

It was supposed to pay for our airfare for the cruise in November but DH told me I can use some of it for my trip in a week which is something I wasn't expecting. Alright, Pal Mickey, you are mine!

Our check was due to be mailed out on this past Friday (the 8th) and everyone around me got theirs on Saturday and I didn't so I thought for sure yesterday it would be here but NO - we leave on Thursday for vacation and I was REALLY looking forward to having it! Keep your fingers crossed for me that it comes today or tommorow, I am getting worried since I don't have a real trustworthy mail carrier these days.:(

Kev's Mom, I bet you will get your check today. Mine was in the
August 8th batch, and I got mine yesterday. We have unreliable mail as well. I'll cross my fingers for you, but I bet you got it today!

Kevs mom-I felt the same way, everyone had received theirs with the same mailing date as ours but we did get it on the following Thursday after the mailing date, so there is hope!! Let us know.

Thanks for the encouragement elgerber and ls1222 - I'm just sitting here patiently waiting on the mail with fingers crossed! I'll let you know :D

If the credit last year took you to zero taxes paid, that would keep you from being eligible this year. If your tax bill for 2003 is more than it was for 2002, you can file for the additional money next April.

I got the letter on Wed and check on Mon, onloy 187.00 though oh well better then nothing.

I think it ended up being a situation where I paid so little that it wasn't enough for them to justify giving it to me. I was upset at first, but I guess I can't complain. Being broker than broke I get enough breaks already (gotta love the earned income tax credit!).

Yep, if you get EITC, then you aren't eligible for the extra $400 per child, which makes perfect sense.

Kind of silly to send a tax rebate to someone that isn't paying taxes to begin with.

Oh I pay...maybe not in the classical sense, but I pay.

Nevermind that health insurance sucks the life out of a paycheck...and social security (while a great thing) sucks more...then ya got FICA and any number of other subtractions (thank God Tennesse doesn't have a stare income tax)...when I get my check I feel like I might as well just sat on my keister and watched Ricki Lake all day!

But that's me ranting...Mr. Anti-Government...now where'd I put my military seperatist bunker...?

IT CAME - IT CAME - :Pinkbounc You were right elgerber! The letter was also in the mailbox along with it! It feels great to be $1200 richer today! Have a great day everyone!:teeth:

This is not entirely true. I qualified last year for EIC AND the child tax credit. And I did get the full amount of the advance credit. I only expect what the difference was between what I owed (before the EIC) and what I would owe this year (before the EIC).

So, people that pay no income tax and actually get a handout from the government get the "rebate" too?

And yet another example of screwed up priorities in government spending...

Well, my check is sitting in holding at the post office. My xh is out of town and the check was sent to his address. I won't get it until Saturday. Doesn't matter anyway because 60% of it is going to our trip. LOL!!! We joke that we are getting another Disney vacation thanks to the governement! That's what we do with our tax return every year too!

As for how much you are getting back it depends on how much you made. People who made below a certain amount didn't pay enough in taxes to recieve a rebate. If you think you are owed more you can call and ask. Just make sure you have a copy of your taxes in front of you so you can say, "I paid $X." People who had no income and paid no taxes are not supposed to get anything back (they didn't pay anything in.) There are ways to still qualify for EIC and still get a return. It all has to do with a really weird matrix table that the government made up.
