Irritations While Out Shopping Yesterday

I actually like to see people using checks. :) :thumbsup2 It gives me time to put my stuff on the belt. I like to watch the prices and that is hard to do when the cashiers are scanning stuff while you are putting things on the belt.

So, as long as people do things the way you would do them it isn't rude (i.e. using a cheque, purposefully bumping into people). However, if they happen to do things differently, they are a problem (i.e. shopping as a family).

Good to know.

BTW - why the heck couldn't you have politely asked the person in front of you to move up a little bit, so that you could unload your groceries?

I agree. I found this funny as well. I guess we all percieve rudeness differently. I wonder if I am rude since I use a ton of coupons.

I've never been able to understand why the whole family needs to do the grocery shopping. I prefer to do it alone, and always left the kids home with DH.
When we were little, my mom used to go grocery shopping in the middle of the night and leave us all home asleep - for some peace and quiet! :rotfl2:
Besides, if you use a credit card you still have to punch buttons on the machine, and sign for it anyway. So what's the difference?
Hold or place card in easily-accessible location.
Swipe.
Punch one button (enter)
Sign
Punch one button (done).
Voila! (yes, I do use my debit card as a credit card in the supermarket right now, due to a promotion TDBank is offering).
Or,
Swipe.
Punch four buttons (PIN)
Punch one button (enter)
Punch one button (cash back no/yes)
Punch one button (okay).
Seven buttons, no signature. Quick.

You forgot after the screen says, "Is this amount correct?" and you hit the "No" button in error, you have to go back and re-do the whole darn thing.

And I'm changing my earlier post. If I get bumped with a cart, it might just get bumped up your, well you know what.

My coworker went grocery shopping last night, about the same time I did but in a different neighborhood.

Again, Friday night, 8:30-9:00, very few people in the store.

She was the ONLY one at, or even in the vicinity of, the deli counter (I'm actually a little envious, since 'my' store's deli counter has everything wrapped up for the night by then - but I digress). Did the clerk as her what she wanted? Nope. "241?" No response. "242? No response. "243?" No response. After four more futile announcements, it was finally my coworker's turn for service! :rolleyes1

Nah, I'd be too embarrassed. I'd just slink out of the store and never go back :rotfl2:

Okay, different store today. First, I came out of the store and there's a car standing blocking the curb cut and the crosswalk. I was finally able to get her attention and get her to move - after she tried explaining to me (through the closed window) that she was waiting for someone inside the store. No, really? It's too bad nobody thought to put a parking lot th... oh, duh! They did!

Then I got to my car and, surprise, there was a vehicle parked on the yellow striped (read: don't even think of parking here) area. Fortunately, the driver was just getting out of his car; I POLITELY told him I was leaving and he could move his car into the [legal] space. Oh, did I mention there was an empty handicap parking space one aisle over?

I always hate when people don't put up for the divider for the next person.

I always think that must mean they're a rude and scummy person, even though they're probably not... I just think it.

After reading this entire thread which made me laugh and made me shake my head, I have a few things to say:

1. I guess what amazes me the most is the fact that people act as if they are entitled to be rude if the situation doesn't grant them what they want. What happened to treating others as you would like to be treated and common courteousy? (rhetorical question, don't respond..)

2. It has never occured to me, EVER, that I should put the divider up for the next person. I had no idea that there was a protocol for this.

3. I will do what I can to be a courteous shopper. If I am unintentionally rude, my apologies... What happened to waiting your turn like the rest of us? I do not care if you are in a hurry. Your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency for me.

4. If you have a couple of items, use the express lane, don't stand behind me because there are 10 people in the express lane and act like I owe it to you to let you go first. If you are polite, I might let you go in front of me, but chances are, I have already waited my turn and would like to get home too.

People need to come into the new century, no checkbooks use your credit card. Also the market is a one man job, of course you need to take the kids sometimes. But what is up with all these men standing right besides their wives at the market. That is why they have bars, go get a drink or sit in the car. I do most of the shoping and other people with the whole family, mom dad 4 kids kills me, they must have just got the wellfare check, can't the dad do something else with kids while mom shops. Ok that's it for now. L&G's Dad.

May I ask your age?

So, now that you know about 2, and given your claim in 3 - would you start putting up the divider after your items are on the belt? It is just courteous, and it allows the line as a whole to move more smoothly.

Ok got to admit I didn't read all the post but my pet peeve is when you start bagging your stuff and the person in back of you has like 4 iteams so the have stepped up to the cashier. The cashier then tells you they have your total and the person behind is stand right in front of them and then refuses to move. You can't get the swiper to swipe your debit card or even reach the cashier if you have a check or God forbid cash. I swear the next time I'm going to ask "Oh are you going to pay for mine?"

Ya know what I hate? I hate it when the kids are pushing the cart and they drive it into the back of your heels....

I HATE this, which is why I never let MY kids push the cart as they always do this to me :lmao:

We shop at a bag your own grocery store and as every one know, the room between the lanes is just barely big enough for one cart to pass. I get irritated when the person in front of me will bag her groceries leaving her cart in the lane vs put it at the end of the lane so you can't get your cart out--then they get mad at you for wanting to get by :confused3.

The people that don't move forward bug me too--NOT those that CAN'T move forward the ones that won't.
