Irrational fears at Disneyland

The only time I'd ever been startled on HM was when a CM was standing around a blind corner and deliberately popped out at the ride vehicles. Didn't see it coming.
I might die.

The Haunted Mansion freaks me out. I don't like ghosts or spooky things, and I hate things jumping/popping/startling me. That being said, I still go on it, especially if it's hot outside. Also, the swinging cars on Mickey's Wheel of Death, because I have a fear of motion sickness (again).
Absolutely the same here (Haunted Mansion). In 1987 it was especially busy because Star Tours had just come out, and every ride was breaking down during the summer. My Haunted Mansion ride broke down in the room with the bride and all those scary popping things.... For 5 minutes. I was 10 at the time.

I am afraid of Splash Mountain. Not so much the falling out on the drop (though I did write a short novel in 5th grade titled "The Happiest Place on Earth....isn't so happy anymore", where the main character wins a trip to Disney and then some of the rollers pop off and send her log straight on the cement bridge). Okay...Maybe I am deathly afraid of the drop. The whole dang ride creeps me out though. Man, I wish I still had that book.

I was also irrationally afraid of catching Ebola on our 2014 trip. All the international travellers and stuff. But Disneyland was great therapy, my kids walked away with colds, and I didn't even sanitize my hands after every ride by the end of the trip. In fact I have been so much better about it since then. Disney therapy!

I've been stuck on a ride before. It wasn't California Screamin', which apparently was stopped in the middle of the loop. Over the years I've been stopped on BTMRR, Mr Toad, and ToT. Tot was really interesting, as the prerecorded message was done in a creepy, slightly sinister voiceover.

Remember back in the 80's when they had someone in a suit of armor in the hallway and just as your doom buggy turned they jumped out at you.

I have been walked off of EVERY ride that it is possible to be walked off. It's interesting how you get out of the monorail. And FYI you can not get walked off pirates from some locations. I was stuck on there for 3 hours once two days before 9/11. Cast members have all sorts of fun stories.

Glad I'm not the only one to think about that! I think about it every time I ride Pirates lol One night we must have gone on it 5-6 times in a row. It was close to park closing and it was totally dead, so we could literally just keep riding it over and over (so much fun!). About the 4th or 5th time, the thought popped into my head -- what if an earthquake hit while we were on this ride?.... I seriously think about it every time I go on it now! It's my absolute favorite ride and that would never stop me from riding it but yeah, it does cross my mind. I guess if the "big one" hits, I'll die in my happy place. lol

Well I will top this all off by telling you about the pinnacle of my fear that I went through this week. While away on vacation I went for a four hour tour of the caves about fifty miles from where I used to live. A company here on provincial park lands runs private tours of caves. These caves are completely natural and this particular cave is only accessible in the summer as the rest of the year it is full of water as a river bed. At three points during the tour you need to pass through very tight passages. The first is about eight feet long and you don't have enough room for you to fully be on your hands and knees. The second is thirty feet long where the majority requires you to use a fireman crawl style to get through. The final one needs to be pumped out as it is full of water and requires you to literally squeeze your body through about five feet.

Every once in a while I would think "what if there was an earthquake right now"

I am claustrophobic and the two things at DLR that really set me off are the caves on the island and the Nemo subs. I will not go in the caves and I request the handicapped viewing for Nemo while the rest of my family goes on the subs.

I'm right there with you! I didn't think too much of some claustrophobia issues I have until I got on Nemo. OMG, I didn't think I was going to make it through the ride! Luckily my family didn't really like it that much so I probably won't have to go on it again.

Big Thunder Mountain used to be one of my most favorite rides. I dont want to sound gruesome but ever since there was that fatal accident on the ride in that tunnel, I cringe when our train goes into it.

I seriously almost had a panic attack just reading about your adventure!

My heart rate still accelerates when I go on POTC before I even get through the queue. I was terribly afraid of it as a child (seriously screamed and cried until I was about 12 years old despite going on roller coasters). So, I think I conditioned myself to get all freaked out on it. My 2-year-olds manage better than I do.

I always hated the drops. Pit in the stomach feeling worrying about the drops, but other than that I loved it.

Snakes. Indiana Jones is really, really stressful and that one bit at the beginning I close my eyes until my husband tells me it's over.
I hate the mice. I hated it in honey I shrunk kids & in bugs land theater too. I hold my feet out of the wind.

I hate Mr Toad's wild ride especially the part you go to Hell. I also have a fear when the bugs from "it's tough to be a bug" exit the theater lol.

I think my only irrational disney fear is going to the cove bar and finding out lobster nacho's were discontinued, never to return again.

That someone will steal my $500 stroller.

Agreed. I always have it in my head that my stuff (stroller, wheelerchair, purse, phone, andything really lol) is going to get stolen while at disney. The truth of it is that I have never had anything stolen at disney and I am way more at risk at my local sixflags or waterworld.

I used to be scared of Pirates because of the drop. I remember it scared the you know what out of me when I was really little. When I finally got the nerve to try again I was surprised at how small the drop really is!

I am still scared of hitting my head or hands on Matterhorn and keep both safely tucked in the whole time.

I will not ride the fun wheel period...

And I don't want my 11 year old son to ride California Screaming because I think he is going to fall out during the loop. In fact I don't want him to ride anything that goes upside down!!

I also have a ton of anxiety about planning our days and making sure we get in all the stuff we want to do. I don't know why I stress over it before every trip since it all works out just fine while we are there and we rarely follow th plans I have in my head! Right now I'm stressed about FP's in DCA for Soaring and RSR...

Earthquakes! Being from Chicagoland, not something we ever, ever think about. But, there we were, many years ago, at DL, and they announced that 3-4 rides had to close due to "an earthquake" in nearby ???? I don't remember WHERE, but I recall KNOWING it was not anywhere close to Anaheim. We felt nothing. The CMs said there was a very small tremor - what I thought was very far away - but that they closed down several rides so they could do a walk-through to ensure the structural integrity of the rides. We heard about the earthquake - it was a 4.something on the Richter scale, on the news, so we know it wasn't a BS excuse to shut down the rides. I don't remember what rides, but there were many that were closed throughout that day for a few hours at a stretch. It made me feel very safe that they checked the rides so thoroughly when NOTHING was felt at DL, but was considered close enough that it could interfere with the safety of the rides.

Next trip? We're headed to Joshua Tree National Park. I'm going to one of the lookouts to specifically "look over" the San Andreas Fault. I figure, if the BIG ONE is going to happen while we are visiting California, we'll go quickly ;-)

We were also in the area a few years ago when there was a "Tsunami watch" ... it was ALL OVER the news - stay away from the ocean, stay away from beaches. What did we see on the news? People at the ocean and on the beaches. Again, landlocked Chicagoan here, all I could think about was ... how far would the water go, would it reach Anaheim?? Then, it turned out to be NOTHING but a really blustery day. Oops on the forecasters. Again, guess better safe than sorry. We have tornado warnings at least 7-10 times per year in the midwest (but our area exceptionally rare to get a tornado) that send everyone scrambling, guess the west coast has earthquake & tsunami fears :-)

My greatest fear? That Superhero-themed rides will take over DCA. Oh wait ... that's actually happening
