Irrational fears at Disneyland

This is a totally irrational fear because I never let my son climb the railing and I always keep an eye on him, but when I look down into the water at Paradise Pier or Rivers of America I get a panicking feeling my son will fall in... Probably why I'm so diligent with swim lessons:guilty:

As others have stated yes there are metal detectors. I believe after pulse more people are going through them. And as for people carrying them around, off duty cops in most places are required to carry guns at all times.

Depends on the agency. That being said, I would think that mostly what would be allowed is on-duty officers patrolling the parks dressed like any other visitor. Disney has specific policy that anyone with a concealed carry permit (including off-duty law enforcement) must check their weapons in at security. This is from the Deputy Sheriff's Association of San Diego County:

Disneyland/Disney’s California Adventure/Disney World: Concealed weapons, even those carried by off-duty police officers, are not allowed in the parks. However, a customer service representative indicated that if an officer brings his or her weapon to one of the parks, you may ask to speak with a security officer and they will provide a safe storage place for your weapon while you are inside the parks. If you are staying on property, you must leave your firearms locked up at the front desk of Disney resorts or entry to the parks and not in your room safe. Metal detectors have recently been added to the bag search area.
Other parks in Southern California do allow active and retired LE to carry, but I find it interesting that Knott's Berry Farm says that they're not allowed on their roller coasters. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

In reality, constitutional rights don't ever trump a business's rights to control what happens on their property.
Not technically true. You as a business owner can't deny service to anybody in a "protected class". Shame the constitution isn't a protected class.

Oh another irrational fear I have is that any ride water (world of color mist, pirates mist, drips in BTM etc) that gets in my mouth is going to make me deathly ill. I have no clue why I'm scared of it but I always make sure my mouth is closed tight if I see it coming haha.

Sure I understand that. However, there is a right to control what happens on your property within the law, but not for something innate or relatively so of a customer.

There is no constitutional right to bear arms on someone else's private property and Disney has asserted their right to make their own policy. They aren't really violating anyone's rights and definitely aren't violating the US Constitution. I have the right to post political signs in front of my house, but if take them into Disneyland I have no such right. That shouldn't be that difficult a concept. As a matter of law, a private business not allowing someone to do something that they can do at their own home or on the sidewalk is not a Constitutional violation.

I was actually just referring to why some people would carry concealed guns around in general. I know there are certain places it is illegal to carry a gun no matter what: schools, airports, etc. Also I did say in most as in not every law enforcement requires it. It depends on the agency, the state, and county you live in. I've lived in some places that all off duty cops carry but I've lived in others that it's a personal choice if they carry off duty. So again "in most cases."

Actually, the federal law about carrying a gun near a school doesn't apply to those with concealed carry permits. At an airport it may not specifically be illegal before getting to the security area.

If the private property is opened up to the public as a business, they give up certain liberties.. I don't have to let you on my property if I don't like something you are doing... as a business owner... I wouldn't have such liberties.

In the state I currently live in it is against the law to carry a gun on school property, public or private with or without a concealed weapon permit, but then again the state I currently live in also allows you to openly carry a gun including a riffle down the street if you have a permit.

The federal Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 sets an exception for those with a license from the state. I have heard that it technically doesn't include off-duty police because their right to carry isn't a license. I imagine that some states have laws that are tougher than the federal law.

Actually a private business has the right to exclude based on almost anything. They simply can't do so on the basis of being in a protected class. Legally Disneyland could keep someone out for wearing a garment of a competing theme park. It would be rather silly to do so, but it wouldn't be illegal. They can prohibit certain items brought from outside including food. And the policy against weapons has a sound backing in case law.

When I ride Mickey's Fun Wheel and it gets to the top and stops....I always think "this would be a REALLY bad time for an earthquake".

OP... panic disorder, yikes. Me and my 3 DD's all are diagnosed with anxiety, but DD18 has panic attacks. We have all benefited from cognitive behavioral therapy to help us get over irrational fears. DD18 used to not be able to sit at her desk in her very small class at a private school, and needed me with her all day. Last weekend she graduated high school from a class of 390, and has been happily independent, active and outgoing at school, driving herself and friends, and is going camping next week with her friends-- all things I would have thought impossible 6 years ago. If you have not already looked for help, there's a really good percentage of success with CBT. It's a shame to let anxiety mar your wonderful DL trips! Hope it gets better for you!

On another note, I hope the @#^!@ posters who are making this thread a political one about gun control take it to private messaging. Enough, already. Don't hijack the thread, please.

Disneyland is actually one of the few places that my anxiety disorder does NOT kick in. My Doctor said she'd prescribe trips to DL if she could!

My daughter, on the other hand, goes into a panic attack if she can't see me right away when she gets off a ride. I always try to wait right at the exit, or in a pre-defined place, but if crowds are heavy around me, she will lose it. Now that we have a Gizmo, I'm hoping that will happen less on our next trip.

My fear isn't at DL but at WDW on the Dinosaur ride. I don't know why it happens, but I have a very deep and primal fear of the dinosaurs, even though I know they're fake. I'm guessing that one of my ancestors not too far back had some run-ins with the giant reptiles.

OMG, GatorChris, I am right there with you! I hate that ride. I start shaking just knowing that I have to go on it...even today when my DD and I were watching YouTube, (new Frozen ride) she saw a Dinosaur! video...I started to shake. Lol! There is no reason for me to be like this...

As someone with a bad case of motion sickness, especially when it comes to spinny things, I secretly worry that my vehicle on Buzz or Roger Rabbit will get stuck on spin! I never worry about Mad Tea Party, though, I just never go on it!
