So am I - I really like Alex. I think the fact that Alex was Zakarian's sous chef indicates that they are grooming her for Iron Chef. It's different than Anne Burrell's situation - she became a Food Network star after being Batali's sous chef. Alex is already a Food Network star, and didn't become a sous chef until last year.
Neither Spike nor Marcel have any business being on this show. They are young and untested, and have lost every competition they've been in.And Marcel isn't seeking "redemption"; he's new!
What Mehta and Appleman and some of the others seem to forget is that this is not a straight cooking show like Top Chef. It's also an audition for a TELEVISION show. They have to select someone that people will watch. They made that mistake one year when they selected Marc Forgione; his ratings are low. They're not going to choose Mehta, no matter how well he cooks, because he's not watchable.
(Of course, last year I thought Alex or another woman would win - I was convinced it would be Falkner over Zacharian - so that shows you how much my opinion is worth!)
That's a good point about being watchable. I won't usually watch if Moritomo (sp?) is the Iron Chef. He just doesn't interest me. Now if Amanda wins, I'll be watching every time.

I was a Chef Freitag fan the last season that she was on. But after being at a cooking demo with Chef Guarneschelli earlier this year, she is my favorite. I really hope one of them wins!I really like Chef Guarnaschelli. I would love to hang out with her, drink some wine and have her teach me some tricks of the trade, but I think Chef Faulkner is more Iron Chef material.
Boo! I really wanted Faulkner to win this time. She was crushed and so were all the judges. Now, I'm either for Alex or someone quirky. I think most of the Iron Chefs are boring, except Symon and Cat Cora. We need some personality besides Alton Brown and the guy with the horrible line of beard down his chin-makes me laugh thinking about it!!
The Chairman is an actor who also plays WoFat in Hawaii 5-0, so I know he could add some life. Most of the men who are left are little Naploeans like Geoffrey Zahkarian. He's an uptight, control freak and watching him cook is boring although I'm sure it's good.I am so glad Alex wasn't in the bottom, I really thought she blew the "risk" of the challenge and they would send her home for that. I have a feeling Cherf Faulkner being in the bottom was totally planned, and I am sorry to see her go over Appleman. I can't stand him.
Mehta reminds me of a James Bond villain. He could take up acting.
Morimoto rocks!
