Anyone have any recommendations and/or personal experience with private tour groups in the following ports? We are sailing on Princess next year and would rather not do the ship's excursions as they never include enough. Thanks.

Belfast
Cork
Dublin
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Guernsey
Inverness
Liverpool
London
Normandy

The main one I would suggest is haggisadventures.com they offer a number of tours not just in Scotland.
As for the rest of Scotland check out the visitscotland.co.uk plenty of useful info and links there.
Edinburgh has great hop on off buses that take you round the city and the tour guides are great.

Great info. Thank you!

Tell me what you are interested in for Glasgow (museums Gardens, buildings/architecture or scenery) also what time of year and how long you will be in port and can come up with some places that may be good to see, you could then try and see which tours go to those places - I live 15 mins down the coast from the Greenock port- you will sail past my house. I would add the scenery is amazing in this area.

Oh, you'll have to wave as we sail by!

We are in Glasgow on a Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Foremost, we love local history. of course, anything scenic is always a plus. I am excited to finally get over there since both my husband and I come from Scottish descent.

most of the historic buildings and museums are in Glasgow itself.

The Kelvin Art Gallery, Mitchel Library, The Glasgow University- (huntarian in the uni has a museum which has lots of Charles Rennie Macintosh stuff including a make up of his house) are all the west end and are some of the finest buildings in Glasgow.

The People Palace, George square and the merchant city are all in the center but unfortunately one of our best buildings has just partially burned down a few days ago - the Glasgow school of art.

There is an open top bus goes round most of the Glasgow buildings.

I would strongly recommend that you do not stay around Greenock.-

The best scenery is probably on the other side of the clyde in Argyle.

However, you may be able to find a trip that combines a bit of Glasgow with a drive up Loch Lomond (40 mins away from Glasgow) and "to me" is one of the places I think has the best scenery in Scotland.

Some people on the cruises opt to go on the Waverley -the last ocean going paddle steamer in the world (its surprising small and fast)- it goes to some very scenic places- but less historic.- it depends on time of year for Waverley itinerary .

Well I live in Cork And If I knew when you arrive in either

Cobh ( pronounced Cove ) or Ringaskiddy I might take you on a tour myself .

4years ago I drove the 20 min drive to Cobh & as I was looking at one of the Cruise liners a couple approached me for Information on Cobh.

I found out that they were from Lake Wales off Hwy 27.

We now meet up twice a year in Florida.when we visit our villa.

Very generous offer. Thank you. I will let you know final dates if we are able to go (job security is in question for the future :sad2:)

And mackay_J -- I am so sorry to hear about your School of Art burning down! How did it happen?

everyone here is very upset about the art school, a projector exploded apparently. What made it worse was it was the final year students hand in day ahead of marking and their degree show. One of my DD best friends thought she had lost everything she had worked on over the last 4 years but lucikly we saw clips on the news that showed all her main work intact. However quite a few of her friends have lost everything, so sad.:worried:
