Iran is now saying...

A friend has advanced an opinion.

He says it's a tit-for-tat action in reply to the USA's seizing of some Iranian nationals and refusal to release them due to diplomatic immunity (Iran said they were diplomats but they oh-so-weren't).

I can't verify this, but it makes sense.

I heard this same theory on a news programme that I watched yesterday. I guess that time will tell!

What we really need here is a pretty little mushroom cloud over central Tehran.

No! We need the LEADERSHIP of IRAN Killed and the PEOPLE of Iran releas ed to do what they want with their lives. We have no problem with the PEOPLE of Iran, just the NUTJOB LEADERSHIP.

I don't believe for one second that the sailors were in Iranian waters, nor do I believe that they would admit to being in Iranian waters without being tortured. So either Iran is lying about the "confessions" or they tortured it out of them. Either way, Iran is just rattling their sabres trying to be all macho vs. the other big dogs in their neighborhood.

I agree that getting rid of the Iranian leadership and leaving the people alone as much as possible is a good idea in theory, but in case anyone forgot, that is exactly what we were/are doing in Iraq... so then what?

Yes, killing millions of Iran's would be both (1) pretty and (2) what we need. </sarcasm>

Some posts on the DIS scare me.

I wonder how soon you will be suspended?
Funny, we are the only country to ever use nuclear weapons, so we should use them again to convince other countries not to develop them? Sounds like a plan..like the war in Iraq.

Gulf of Tonkin folks!

I heard a blurb that the soldiers actually admitted to being in Iranian waters on purpose, so Iran is now saying they were spying.
Iran would say that. I don't put stock into what Iran says. Iran's just trying to play tough.

Oh, I don't either. I just posted what Iran said. Who knows what really happened. Interesting that they picked Great Britain as the ones they decided to tick off. Not sure what their game plan really is, but if they wanted a confrontation of any magnitude, they would have picked a fight with Israel.

Hi all,
Yep, I saw they did admit to being in iran's waters. However think of it like this, These are young kids were talking about, basiclly held hostage with guns pointed at them. If i had a ak-47 pointed at my head, i would admit to causing globial warming, Taking out hoffa, jfk, Anything you wanted me to say. These so called confession tactic"s won't work and already are seen for what they are, iran acting as a big bully. I hope these poor kids are returned soon and safely!!

All this is just another thing that shows how our world is in bad shape right now. :sad2: No peace :sad2:

I know what you meant, I just had to add my .02 worth. As much as we're stretched right now, Iran is still scared of us, that's why, at least in my opinion, they chose Britain instead of the U.S. I could be wrong, but I feel they are still scared of us. Now, I've heard, I'll see if I can't find the article, that the current president of Iran (I'm not going to attempt to spell his name) has angered those who truly hold the power, the religous people (Mullahs come to mind, but I can't be for sure). So I wouldn't be surprised if he's out of power in the next couple of years.

What a mess.

I can also tell you that the Iranians are driving boats at full speed towards our US military water vessels. They get within feet of the line where we can open fire and then throw it in reverse. Repeat process. Again. And again. And again.

So they are trying to goad us into firing upon them?? I'm just not sure what their game plan is. I also agree with a previous post that they can't possibly mess with Britian and think that we'd ever silently stand by and not become involved.

I heard that when the Iranians were coming after the Brits (who were in their rubber rafts) the commander of the British ship called back to the ministry of defense as to what to to. They could have easily blown the Iranians out of the water but they were told to stand down.

Big mistake IMO.

I may be crazy or just remembering incorrectly but I seem to remember him being more of a moderate when he was first in power. Some have said he really still is at heart, and all this anti-West rhetoric is just posturing for the religious higher ups. I don't know.... I just hope Putin doesn't do anything stupid. Now if I had to pick someone REALLY dangerous imho, it's that snake.

There's a slightly wacky conspiracy theory anchored here.

It says that the UK deliberately placed their servicemen in Iranian waters and then denied it, in order to tick Iran off and to create a stand-off, thus softening the UK public to the idea of military action against Iran.

Interesting, but in this case I don't buy it.

Who comes up with stuff like that?? Do people really have that little respect for their government?? Honestly, I just don't get it. I doubt a stunt like that would rally war-weary people to get involved in another conflict. Besides, why would the British government even want that to happen??

Exactly! It just doesn't hold merit.
