that they want to try the British soldiers for espionage?? Ok, I saw a blurb on the news, but went to look for confirmation online and can't fine anything. Did anyone else hear this as the latest news??

This is aggravating that I can't find anything in print, but I just saw it confirmed on the news that the Iranian government intends to put the 15 British soldiers on trial for espionage.

I heard a blurb that the soldiers actually admitted to being in Iranian waters on purpose, so Iran is now saying they were spying. This was 1:00 last night so I admit to not really hearing with all my attention. Haven't heard anything this morning.

Yes, I just saw the other thread and posted about that. I heard that they are accusing the soldiers of doing it with the intent of being captured in an attempt to make the Iranians appear as the aggressors.

Who knows. What I do know for sure is that there will be a lot of sputtering and posturing by both countries. I think Iran knows enough not to harm those soldiers. Just how long they will "keep" them is another story. I hope it won't be too long.

Iran doesn't hold an ounce of credibility in my opinion. I cannot see how Britian would even consider such a plan to be beneficial to anyone.

Too bad Armadinijad cancelled his plans for NYC. Maybe he was afraid we would hold him hostage. Its a shame because the Iranian people are NOT represented by this government. Your post reminded me of a show I watched last night about Afghanistan's art treasures. They told the story of an artist who, when the taliban came into power, painted over paintings that had living things in them with water colors. The taliban had no idea what this guy was doing to save the art works of his country. Apparently pictures drawn of living things was a big no no.

At any rate, when the taliban was driven out, he just washed the cover ups off and the oils underneath were perfect. A true hero, his defiance could have cost him his life.

They showed many Afghan people who hated the taliban and all they stood for. It was a very enlightening program.

Even IF they were in Iranian terretorial waters, the protocol would be warnings to get back on there side. Not to take them hostage.

A friend has advanced an opinion.

He says it's a tit-for-tat action in reply to the USA's seizing of some Iranian nationals and refusal to release them due to diplomatic immunity (Iran said they were diplomats but they oh-so-weren't).

I can't verify this, but it makes sense.

Any updates?? I've been out enjoying the gorgeous weather all afternoon. It does seem like more than a coincidence that they have also rejected the most recent UN sanctions.

Its a diversion to get away from the Nuke topic. They will try to exchange the soldiers for Britains "Help" in lifting sanctions.

The above is an opinion and not based on reality , but it makes sense.

Well I am not an espionage expert.

But I would guess that the best form of espionage would be one that seems the least obvious and very deniable. But I wont go on record as saying that these 15 are indeed spies, just that I feel somebody better be.

Your friend is a bonehead. Iran took the hostages for the same reason they did before. They are crazy, murderous *******s who will pull anything they can get away with.

Gee, I wonder if they'll find them guilty.
