ipod touch

Now you guys have me second-guessing myself on the size I should get my dd, lol.

I had pretty much made up my mind I was just going to get her an 8gb, because I've had mine for 3 yrs now, have tons of apps on it, some pictures, some songs, and have not even filled it half way.

But dd does like to watch movies on mine, so it's a probability she'll want to download some movies onto hers. At this point, all the movies she watches on mine are streamed through Netflix while we're at home here, so doesn't take up any memory... but thinking for trips, might be nice to be able to put a few movies on there for her (and younger dd) to watch.

For the 8gb one, how many movies would you say it would hold? (along with let's say 20-30 apps).. and how many would a 16gb one hold?

Thanks for any info, :goodvibes

I'm contemplating the Kindle Fire for our 5 year old. She loves watching movies and playing games but doesn't need all of the other things like cameras etc. It's cheaper than a new 8GB IPod touch and has a bigger screen. We're Prime members so we'll get free streaming on lots of things. The only downside is that I have no experience with Android apps and I also would like to put part of our ITunes library on there.

Plus, I forgot to add, I love that you can put children's books on the Kindle. Brown Bear, etc. Depending on the cost, that would be GREAT!

Here is the info off DD's 30gb:

Songs 220
Videos 37 (10 are full length movies, 5 pixar shorts, rest is stuff she recorded)
Photos 265
Apps 70
Available 10.9gb

Actually, there's an app for that. My cousin's kids found it - it's free. She found out they had it when her DD called her from her bedroom asking her to bring her a snack - :lmao:

My cousin said the app assigns the ipod a phone number. The phone calls are apparently free and it only works if they have a wifi connection available.

Care to share the name of that app?

Thank you for posting this, :thumbsup2

I'm thinking an 8gb might be ok for dd still then.. although I might splurge on a 16gb.. she's got an mp3 player right now, has had it for a year, and only has about 75 or so songs on it. Don't see her having that many pics, and can always save those to DVD if needed. As far as apps, she'll probably have around 10-15 to start with (ones that she plays on mine, that I've downloaded for her). And don't really see her keeping that many movies on it all the time.. if anything we'd just download 3-4 for trips, then take them back off afterward.

I just got the TRU ad for next week and they are having a promo
Get a $25 giftcard when you buy any Ipod Touch. It doesn't list the price in the ad, but it says "hot price" for the 8GB.

Also Itunes cards are save $5 on a purchase of $30 or more.

Ive been waiting on the w/iTune Giftcard promos to come out :goodvibes TRU has layaway and the iPods CAN be put on layaway which I think is great for those who buy little by little or are buying more than 1.

The new generation iPods are coming out in just a few weeks which is why the 4th generation prices are coming down a little. The only way I would buy a 5th generation is if they bring back a 16gb. Otherwise a 8gb it is :goodvibes Both DD9 and DD7 have nintendo DS's that they love but the games are easily lost and they cost $10 and up. I have had an iPod in each generation and I think the iPod Touch 4th generation was a great upgrade with the camera addition! I have a 32gb 3rd generation I wish I had waited.

Thanks for the tip about the Itunes gift cards.. might have to take advantage of that one.

As far as the actual Touch goes though, right now they have the 8gb one for 229.99, so taking $25 off (gift card) brings it down to 204.99 which is the price that Amazon, Best Buy, and Target have been selling them at for few weeks now.. not such a good deal.

The promo doesn't start until next week (Sunday) so the price on the Touch may change for that week. If anyone is interested they should definitely check, I know I'd rather just pay less outright than get the giftcard.

When I got dd's it was right before the 4th generation came out and TRU lowered the price online so I printed it out and brought it in with me, and they honored the price and I got the GC with it.
Now I need a deal on the 32 and since I have a Walmart GC from my CC rewards I hope they do a deal soon :goodvibes

Sort of a hijack... I was wondering what everyone's opinion would be on a nintendo dsi vs. the ipod touch? My dd9 had asked for the dsi ( she already owns a ds ) but after reading this thread I started thinking an ipod touch would be better. :confused3

Watch WOOT.com. I got 2 refurbished Ipod Touch 4's 32 MB for 229 each plus $5 shipping. My boys are 10 and 6 and they have been using my Ipod touch for several years now and take excellent care of it. The 10 year old had actually taken it over and the 6 year old was using the Ipad, but now they both have new Ipod's and it was so worth the money. Mommy gets her Ipad back and both boys are face timing their friends and relatives and using learning games that are fun. Invest in good cases and set limits and let the learning begin!

You are correct...it is SO much better :thumbsup2 Last year my 9yo asked for the DSI and (instead) I got him the touch. He hasn't put it down since that day and has used his old DS maybe twice since last Christmas.

I found a refurbished 8gb one of apple for $199, but the new ones are only 229.00. So is it a better deal just to pay the extra $30 to have a brand new one?

My 8 year old wants want SO badly for Christmas, but I'm trying to decide whether to buy new or refurb....

Thanks

If you purchase a refurb directkly from Apple it has the same 1 year warranty as a brand new one. I have purchased 3 refurbished ipods from Apple and they come looking like new, and none of them have ever had a problem.

Actually, new ones are now going for only $204.99 on several sites now (Target, Best Buy, Amazon), so for a $5 difference, imo, I would just buy new.

But remember, it's rumored that they're coming out with a new version on Oct. 4th, so I'm holding out to see what that one offers before I buy one for DD10 for Christmas.

That was my thought as well..I mean for anywhere from $5 to $30 more, you might as well have a brand new one...

I hadn't heard about a new one coming out...maybe I'll hold off as well and see what new goodies apple put into that one :-)

I heard the new iphone is coming out Oct 4 but not the itouch. Does anyone know for sure? Is the 16gb itouch easy to find? I still can't decide which size to get altho I am leaning toward the 8gb based on what you all have been saying it can hold.
