ipod touch

my son has the 32g and its not near full...but he does not watch movies or anything like that he just has games. I just ordered the 8g for my other son - its the newer model w/facetime 199.00 for a refurb. the older model is about the same or even less for the 32g but i know he'll like the camera/facetime and i'm sure he won't fill it up -

My DS12 wants this really badly. What size would be good? We would really like to get the 8gb but want to make sure he could play games, etc. It seems Target has the best price right now and we have to get it soon because his birthday is in October.

For those who are going to be buying the Touch, I would wait a couple more wks to buy.

Rumor has it that the new I-Phone and also the 5th generation Touch are coming out on October 4th.

I'm waiting to buy dd's until after that date, just to see what price/options the new one is going to be, and also to see if the 4th gen. price drops after that date.

I think you all have talked me into getting them for my DDs (9 and almost 7 at Christmas) too! :rotfl2:

I do have a questions about downloading songs/apps/etc. When you buy something at iTunes, does it only go onto one device? Or can you put it on all devices that are on your account? Like if both girls want the same app, do I buy it twice? Just trying to determine how much I should get in gift cards to get them started. Thanks!

As long as the devices are on the same account you only have to buy it once. The only time I buy something twice is if there are different versions for iPods and iPads (angry birds vs angry birds hd).

If you plan on putting any movies or tv shows on it get atleast a 32 GB. DD filled up their 16G nano in no time with music and movies. When we upgrade them it will be to at least 32GB.

There is rumors of a new generation comming out in October.

Thinking about getting one of these for DS10 for Christmas....and MAYBE DS7

Let me just make sure I understand these things, (I'm getting old ;))

So they CAN watch movies and play games on them (downloaded and bought on Itunes??), they CAN facetime other people (only others with facetime....other IPOD Touch people, and maybe IPHONE people?? They CAN take movies/pictures with it?? They CAN go online and surf the internet? There is a Kindle-like app to go with it?? And can they buy apps like the IPHONE???

But they CAN NOT text or make phone calls??

Also, all the songs we've already download for their IPODS, I'm assuming can be transfered to the touch??

thanks!!

Actually, there's an app for that. My cousin's kids found it - it's free. She found out they had it when her DD called her from her bedroom asking her to bring her a snack - :lmao:

My cousin said the app assigns the ipod a phone number. The phone calls are apparently free and it only works if they have a wifi connection available.

ETA - we got one for youngest DS last year - he loves loves loves it. Middle DS broke his DS and I'm thinking about getting him an Ipod as a replacement. The only recommendations I have is plan on some accessories if you get an Ipod Touch - a car charger and a rubber case (can be had for as low as $2.50 on Amazon). The battery has a very short lifespan when playing games as compared to a DS or PSP or as compared to when you are just playing music. I'd also recommend getting an iTunes card. There are a lot of great apps for free but my kids favorites all cost money (monopoly, scrabble, etc.).

Has anybody watched this in the past? DD10 is itching to buy hers, she has the money, but I don't know what the price on 4th gen will do. Lately Amazon and Best Buy have had them for $204 and I just don't know if they will go lower.

I got my two dd's (11 and 9) a touch for xmas. I'm so confused about how sharing the apps works. So if I set up their touch to use my itunes account then I can download all the apps that I have on my touch already? And will each of their touch's save their own game and not revert back to a saved game from the original touch?

I think 9 is a perfect age for the touch. My DD9 just got one for her birthday in May and she loves it! She can't wait until Christmas to get more itunes cards and buy more stuff to put on it.

My DD7 wants one bad, but she has to wait until she's 9 (1 1/2 years). She's rough with her things, so she has to wait. We were thinking of getting one for her earlier, but she hasn't proven to be good with her other things. She has a nano, so she's not deprived.

My ds9 also wants an ipod touch for Christmas. Does anyone know if there are parental controls on it for the app store so that bad stuff doesn't come up on there?

Is there any difference with the Touch sold at Walmart? I am wondering if it is like many other things at Walmart and built inferior specifically for Walmart (examples - tires at Walmart have less tread on them than the same tire at a tire store, bought a camera once and returned to Walmart because it was inferior to the same camera sold elsewhere as my experience...)

A refurbished 8 Gb Touch at the Apple store is $199. Same 8 Gb not refurbished at Walmart is $215 online and I just saw it in the store for $225 (yes, both are the iPod Touch 4 with Facetime.) Why buy refurbished which is a fixed used broken unit when for $15 you can have a non-refurbished, unless it is a built-for-Walmart inferior product.

Amazon and Best Buy are selling the 8GB Touch for $204. I don't think that Walmart is getting anything different than anyone else. I agree with the way the pricing is at the moment, I would not buy refurb. My DD did buy a refurb 3rd gen earlier this year from Apple for $149 which was a savings over new.

Possibly stores have them discounted now, because a new generation typically comes out in September, so they are trying to unload 4th gen.

My daughter got her first ipod the Christmas she was 9. It was before the cameras were on them so I'm thinking that this year she might get a new one. I'm waiting on the new announcement to see if the newest ones will be changed.

For the person that asked about storage, I bought an 8 gb for my daughter and she's constantly having to choose what NOT to put on hers. I'll not buy the smallest ones in the future. My current position on any ipods, ipads, etc is that we'll save until we can afford the larger sized ones.

But I want the option for watching movies. If you are 100% sure you'll never watch movies you might can get by with an 8, but otherwise I'd go for bigger.

There is no difference. Apple sales the same products everywhere - no inferior ones for Walmart.

So I have an iTunes account for my iPhone and 5th generation video iPod. When we bought DD an iPod touch and an iPad for the family- we put the touch and the pad on my iTunes account and now all the devices can share the same apps and movies I loaded.

When I plug in DD's iTouch, I can click on "Apps" and "Videos" when I am in iTunes and select which apps & movies I want on her device. Same goes for my iPhone and the iPad when I plug in each of those devices. For example, I have USA Today app loaded on my iTunes, but only on 2 devices. I have Angry Birds on all devices and American Girl apps on DD's device. You can also do the same for music when you plug in a device- I pick and choose playlists to load on DD's touch so she doesn't have all my music.

EDIT- also- each device will save it's own game. So if DD1 makes it up to a new level on Angry Birds, DD2 won't have that level achieved on hers- she has to play it on her own touch. Also- lets say DD1 buys an app on her touch. Plug it into the computer and the app will load on iTunes. Next time DD2 plugs in hers she will have it also.
