My DD wants and ipod touch for her birthday. We have decided to get it for her. She will be 10 and mostly will use it for game apps a little music and maybe a movie now and then. I am not tech savy at all so I am now confusted about all the other touch brands out there. Do they work just as well? are the apps the same?

Thanks

I am not sure what you mean about the other touch brands? I think she wants an Apple iPod Touch. I would say that it probably is most user friendly and has the best apps.

There is only one iPod Touch with different sizes of memory. Maybe you are thinking about other types of devices, such as those made by Archos? The iPod Touch is the way to go.

I'd say, if she asked for an Apple iPod Touch, don't chance it by going with another brand... Get a Touch. Apple products are so branded/iconic that replacements just don't quite cut it for many. I'd say... If you can afford it, get it and if you cannot, go with another gift entirely!

:goodvibes The iPod Touch is very user friendly! We have had 'other' brand mp3 players and none compare with being user friendly period. The iPod 4th generation will allow her to do much more than games and music. Kids podcasts, watch her fav tv shows, movies, audiobooks, e-books, texting and facetime (chatting with other friends or family who also have an iPod,iPad or iPhone). Surf the internet. It keeps going.

As Seth Meyers said about the Kindle Fire...

"The Kindle Fire is expected to sell well with parents who always buy the wrong thing."

And that is absolutely true. A kid wants an Apple iPad because all of his friends have Apple iPads. You buy a Kindle Fire and you've just bought the wrong thing because it is useless. It's not an Apple iPad.

Same thing if kids want an iPod Touch. If you buy them something else, it isn't going to do the same thing with all their friends' iPod Touches and will be worthless to the kid.

Buying a kid something else when they want an iPod Touch is like the kid asking for a bicycle and you buying them a pair of rollerskates. They both can be a mode of transportation, but the rollerskates aren't going to get them to their buddy's house so they can go ride their bikes up in the woods.
