ipod touch, do I need a 32gb or will 8 be enough?

I have a 16 and it is filled. I have an original ipod touch. Got it the day it was released. I live on audiobooks which are total space hogs. I have a number of aps I use daily. Lots of photos I like to have on hand etc. When traveling with the kids I have to really cut down in order to fit a movie on it. Now that the iphone is coming to Verizon I will go with the 32.

Meanwhile there is my husband. He has the 8gb ipod touch. Only a couple of photos, never bothers with music, has a couple of audiobooks and a few games and a couple of aps. But 2 movies do not fit. He will be traveling this month and we are having to juggle a little to get things on it he will need on a 12 hour flight with a child.

So go with the 32

Get at least 32, you won't be sorry. I have the 32 and have it almost full from songs, photos and apps and a few movies. Luckily I have an Iphone that I can also use.

Get the 32! I was going to get the 8 and my sisters convinced me that it wasn't anywhere near enough. I had been using a 2gb Ipod before and didn't think there was a chance I'd use all that space, but now I'm glad because I use it all

That is really a matter of personal preference. Some people like the clear cling type protective skins. Those add basically nothing to the size of the ipod, but will usually protect it from most scratches. However, they won't do any good if you drop it on the floor. Others like the silicone rubber type cases. Those tend to help protect against dropping, but thats about it. And the hard plastic/metal ones will do good against scratches, and help to keep it from getting dented/dinged, but not so more for dropping. There are some models that have both the hard plastic shell, with a silicone ring around the edge. Some come with belt clips, arm band holders, kickstands so you can watch movies with it sitting on a desk. You need to think about what exactly you want to use it for and then go from there. The official Apple store will carry some models, and most electronic stores will as well. Check out iLounge for product reviews to see what they think works well and doesn't work well.
I have nothing on my iPhone, and hard plastic on our iPods.

I talked to some friends today. The husband broke his ipod touch 3rd generation after only a couple of months by banging it in a car door and it falling. He couldn't recommend the OtterBox enough and said he won't ever go without one even though it adds some bulk.

I have a Belkin silicone sleeve. If I'm traveling the touch goes into an old soft glass case. For me that works.

And you're making the right decision to go 32 over 8. I have a 32 touch and I sync it a lot less than the 8gb nano that goes back and forth to work and the car.
