Does anyone own an iPod or an iPod Mini? What do you think of it? I am thinking about getting one and would like some information from my trusted Disers. Thanks in advance for the info.

I LOVE my iPod. Seriously. Love. I have a 20 GB with about 1/2 of my music collection on it, and it's fantastic -- I can have all of the CDs I listen to with me ALL THE TIME. In Greece, I didn't have to mess with a discman and tons of CDs, in my car, I just have the one thing (no messing with a big book of CDs). I also have a media card reader, so I can store pictures from my digital camera on my iPod when I'm on vacation without a problem.

It's small enough to keep with me when I run or work out at the gym, sturdier than I thought it would be (I'm pretty clumsy, and it's been dropped a few times but is no worse for the wear), and did I mention that I love it? It's definitely one of the best purchases I've made in the past year.

I'm looking to buy a mini in pink when I've got the cash, specifically for going to the gym and running so I can wear it on an armband. And also because it's pink. :)

SoonerKate - Interesting! I would have never thought to dump pics to it, but that is a great idea. How do you do it?

What about battery life or battery problems?

I love love love LOVE my iPod. I have the 10GB and I have all of my favorite CDs on in as well are the Harry Potter and Chamber of Secrets Audio book and Order of the Phoenix Audio book for those of you that don't know those alone are like a weeks straight worth of audio! I bought mine as a package deal when I got my Powerbook on a whim, I figured I am spending so much already whats $150 (after the package discount). I love how I can hook it up in my car rather than my whole discman and CDs hooked up. I also used to keep my class and work schedule on there. I would highly recommend purchasing one. I am so excited then when I start my job on DCL all I have to pack is my iPod and NOT my entire CD collection and CD player!!
Oh Yeah and also I love the quality of the iPod unlike CD players the music on the iPod doesn't skip when you run or accidentally bump it. The controls are also really easy to figure out and get used to.
:worship: :worship: All Hail the Apple and Their iPods!!!!

I also LOVE my ipod. I have a mini. It's put me well on my way to never having to purchase a CD ever again! I didn't put my entire CD collection on it, rather I just weeded out my favorite songs. It took me about 2 days to complete, but now I just set my playlist to shuffle and I have my personal greatist hits collection. Seriously, you need to buy one!

Check this out: iPod-lounge
I'm getting one soon and this site has all the info you need -and even more.
I'll buy mine during my upcoming USA-vacation as it is about 30% cheaper in the US than in Europe. Throw in the low Dollar, and it's quite a great deal :teeth:

Another iPod lover here. I also have the 20 GB. There is nothing like the iPod on those long plane rides...no more lugging a CD player and CD case. I can get about 4.5 hours off a battery charge, depending on how often I use the backlight and such.

I have the Ipod mini (green) and absolutely love it!! I don't think you can dump pictures to the mini, you might want to check that out if you are considering an ipod for that...you'd have to go with the full-size one. My favorite accessory is the Itrip, which is an FM transmitter that attaches to the ipod. Flip to an unused FM channel, set the ipod for that channel and the music plays through your car stereo. Very cool!!

Thanks for the info too. DD will be 13 on July 12 and wants a mini iPod. I don't know too much info about it..........she wants a pink one..........

Are they easy to come by???? Do I need any accessories????

any more info would be appreciated!!

Thanks.............

Pink minis are very hard to come by. I ordered one in May from Apple and the ship date wasn't until June 25. I snagged a green one from Circuit City through Amazon.com one morning when they were available and cancelled the pink one. If she must have pink, be prepared to wait.

As for the accessories, all you really need comes in the box.

For my ipod, I had to order a special USB cable to be able to use it on a PC. Check to see if you need one for the mini ipod when you are purchasing it.

My ipod mini came with a USB cable and a Firewire cable. I think you have to have a USB 2.0, but depending on how old your computer is, you should have that.

Thanks everyone, especially about the "pink" one. I guess I should see whaaat her second choice may be!!!!

Thanks for all the help and info... there are a lot of battery complaints out there and I was a little worried.

I've heard the battery complaints too, and while I think they are valid I think there's a lot you can do to prolong the lilfe of any electronic device battery.

1. When you're not using the device, turn it off. I know it sounds basic, but trust me!

2. Only recharge your battery when the power gets down to one bar. This will really help the battery be able to maintain a charge.

3. Use an adapter whenever possible. The battery life will be much improved if you don't use it as often.

I know some of these tips are more practical than other depending on what kind of device you're using, but trust me they work!

I do have a few battery issues with mine. For some reason when I charge it it takes several tries to get a full charge. For example I will plug it in and it will say Charging then I will come back a bit later and it will say Charged but once I disconnect the cable and turn the iPod on it will only be partially charged so I will have to reconnect the cable again and it will start charging, it usually takes a couple times to get a full charge. This problem started about 6-8 months after I got the iPod. It is a little inconvenient but I still love the iPod anyway. :)
FYI I bought my iPod last June if that helps ( maybe this issue has been fixed since then?)

I use a Belkin Media Reader, which plugs into the dock connector on the iPod. It's not the quickest thing in the world, but if you're doing it at night after you've taken all the pictures, what does it matter?

Also, on long trips, I bring a backup battery pack, which lets your iPod run on regular AA batteries. It worked PERFECTLY while I was in Greece and didn't want to mess around with a converter or anything to charge my iPod.
