so i've been wanting an ipad - getting fed-up with my netbook!

I pretty much will use it to check email, go on facebook come on here - look up things on internet.

I saw the ipad 2 a target for 349.00 16g wifi! - do you think the ipad 2 is obsolete since they are coming out with a new one? Also, do u think the prices might drop more for the 2?

couple of other questions, can i hook the ipad up to my printer? and does it have "favorites"?

any other add'l info that might help please share.

People will have better answers to your questions this evening - there's an Apple keynote today. They'll talk about any new iPad releases as well as which units will be no longer made. It's also likely that there will be a $100 price drop on one of the models as the new one rolls out.

And yes, you can print from an iPad but you need an airplay printer. There are some apps that allow you to print to non-airplay wireless printers but IMO they don't work very reliably.

whats an airplay printer?

I got the iPad 2 32gb WiFi when it first came out. Unless Apple decides to stop supporting it, I have NO plans to get rid of mine. It works just as well now as it did when it came out. I use it to check e-mail, surf the web, watch Netflix, play games and music as well as watch movies I upload to it. Pretty much just entertainment.

You can print to any wireless printer. I print to my HP at home all the time via either my phone or ipad. I have the ipad 2 and my daughter has the ipad 3. They both still work great! The only difference (to me) is the 3 has a better camera. I love my ipad 2 and will not upgrade unless Apple no longer supports it. I wouldn't get anything lower than a 32 though. especially if you want to watch movies.

iPad Mini is now going to sell for $299 (not the newest one just announced with retinal display, the version now available).

New iPad is the iPad Air, starting price is $499.00. The LTE version starts at $629.00. Shipping November 1.

The iPad 2 will still be available for $399. I wouldn't buy such old technology if this were my first iPad.

AFAIK, the iPad 2 is not obsolete, as it recently accepted the iOS 7 (the software which drives all iPods/Phones/Pads) update, along with the more current iPads.

The difference between iPad 2 and the newer models are things such as "retina display" and the new models weighing less.

If those things don't matter to you, and you can get a good deal on an iPad 2, I would say go for it (there is a possibility by this time, next year, it could be obsolete, but that remains to be seen).

That being said, currently, the only iPad that hasn't been (and won't be) updated is the original, first-generation model from 2010.

I agree completely. Get the 32 at a minimum if you plan to watch any videos.

There will also be an iPad Mini retina for the first time which starts at $399.

What if you do not tend to have more than a couple movies at a time and do not use the HD or BlueRay versions? Typically the ones we have tend to be 1-2GB instead of 4-8, so we should be fine, right?

The Ipad 2 will work fine for what you want to use it for unless you wnat the latest and greatest $$$$$.
However do not overlook the other Andriod based brands as some are as good and in some respects better.
We have an Ipad 2 32G with 3G and it works very well for traditional sites better than the andriod tablets we have -- both 7" one a Lenevo and the other the new samsung galaxy tab. The andriod tablets are far faster on a lot of shopping sites as most sites have a mobile version that runs slow or not at all on Ipad. Also the andriod apps are far cheaper and tons of free games that would have to pay for with apple.
My suggestion is go to some stores like best buy and even the apple store and use them to see what will fit your needs better.
To me Apple is very overpriced for what they offer but I do still have a LOT of apple products as certain aspects suck you in.

The iPad 2 is fine; it is what I use now, although I am going to get an Air and pass my old iPad on to a family member.

If you want to keep a lot of movies on your iPad, I would recommend getting 32 GB.
