Ipad as your camera!! Get real!!

I have an iPad and I'm bringing it with me--but not to the parks (unless the room's not ready the first day, then it might end up going and staying in my bag). It's just too bulky and fragile to take a chance with, and the pictures are not great at all--I'm bringing it primarily so I can FaceTime with my DH and son back home, but will be doing that at the resort at night.

I saw a few people taking pictures with them when I was there in August, and thought they looked pretty silly--it's really impractical. But as long as they're not in my way or interfering with my enjoyment of the day, I couldn't care less. It's their expensive equipment they're risking, not mine.

Like I said, not comparable to a point & shoot, but not bad either. As someone else mentioned, they're a useful tool for antsy kids in lines, etc, and that's part of the reason my mom brought it some days, for my youngest sis to play with. If my sis & I weren't there taking photos, too, she'd have brought her camera those days.

:thumbsup2

Antsy kids? What ever happened to learning patience? Using our imagination? Actually talking and interacting with your family? Or just taking in the whole experience? Waiting in line is NOT fun, but at WDW a line is so much more than just standing behind another person. As far as using an IPad to take pictures, I think it looks silly.

Where did I state my sis was antsy? I was bringing up the point of a PP as to why some people might bring one. My sis isn't antsy, but my mother thought she might enjoy the iPad during downtime or waiting for shows. It didn't get much use at all like that, but I can definitely see it as a bonus for parents who have trouble keeping their children focused during a long wait or for those with special need, for whom a wait really is an ordeal.

Sheesh, such judgement on here! :confused3

Can't you use the iPad and do those things? The waits are looooong sometimes. Plenty of time for both :)

My guess is that guests around me will be happier if I let my kids play on the iPad during long waits instead of using that opportunity to teach them patience. If not, it makes me happier and it's not bothering anyone (except for cases of blocking views, in dark attractions, etc.) so what's the big deal?

I always thought you shouldn't post vacation photos on Facebook until you were home, you know so people didn't realize you were out of town.

Don't play the "everybody's judging me" card. This is a discussion board. Some are being judgmental and some just have opposing views. And when did I say anything about your sister? Everything is not about you. Sometimes people (like me) are actually responding to the topic and not the person.

Big deal? I don't know. Who made it a big deal?

Why not pick up the iPad Camera Kit?

Take your pictures with your real, better camera and then copy them to your iPad for editing and uploading to Facebook in your room at night. A win-win: no laptop to lug around and you won't look like an idiot taking pictures with a giant pan.

BEST INVENTION EVER. Seriously. I love the camera connection kit. I bring my IPad on our trips, but use a Nikon camera for pictures. At night, just plop my memory card in this beauty of an invention and instantly it's in the IPad photo section. Is a great way to see all your photos of the day! Get it, it's cheap.:thumbsup2

Well, seeing how you quoted my specific post, one could easily assume you were referring to the person in my party mentioned. If you're responding to the main topic, quoting someone else wouldn't be necessary.

And my judgment comment was aimed at everyone in this thread who has stated outrageous things about how other people are choosing to use their iPad.

I have noticed lots of people using them at WDW. I often think to myself, no way would I lug that huge thing around the park, it just seems crazy to me. But to each his own! :lovestruc

It reminds me of WALL-E with those cars they drive in tv's attached.

Its just weird. I guess if your standing still its fine, but when you see people walking around with it like its a window or something is odd.

Forgive me if anyone has shared anything similar...

But this week at Universal I saw someone using their LAPTOP as a camera. DH even took a picture of it. It was crazy and seemed like a HUGE hassel at Universal IOA!

Or get an eye-Fi memory card for your camera and wirelessly transfer pictures to your iPad while you are waiting in the next line:

(There are different versions so make sure you get a version compatiblè with their iPad app. They are just now releasing a class10 eye-Fi card, too)

This is a really great reply because I've seen a few threads like this and peoples excuse is "it makes it easier to share photos on facebook etc" well A. if you can afford an ipad you can probably afford a decent phone to take and share photos on B. You don't HAVE to share photos on Facebook while you're on vacation and C. Devices like this exist.

I think it's silly when people use/rely on ipods, ipads, cell phones etc for vacation pictures. It will never compare to a real camera and you can usually get a pretty decent point for not much money. But to each his own and as long as you're not obstructing my view or being obnoxious it's none of my business. And for the record, I have an iPhone for and yes I agree, it takes pretty decent pictures (the main camera, at least) but I'd never let it replace a real camera!

My favorite is the people using it for the video!! At Wishes Friday night the man behind me was using it to record the show and blinding everyone around with the recording light. The girl next to me finally said something and he stopped. It was really annoying to have a blinding light right at eye level while you're trying to watch a fireworks show. It's a computer for goodness sakes not a camera!!!

::yes::::yes::::yes::

I wonder if people who primarily take pictures with their iPads don't have a regular camera. Not everyone takes a lot pictures in their day to day lives.

If you can spend several hundred dollars on an ipad, you can afford a camera. Heck I got my Nikon for $160 and it takes pretty decent photos! I know there are cameras just as cheap/around the same price that take even better ones!

I have that...super easy to load your pics from your camera card to your IPad. Also, if you have an IPhone, with ICloud, everything automatically transfers to your other devices. I usually take pics with my IPhone and put on Photobucket Ap for sharing on DISboards....hardly ever use a digital camera any more.

I love taking my IPad to fly...I always download movies and watch them on the plane...or read...or play angry birds....I love my iPad, my DH named it on the computer "Kelly's Boyfriend" LOL, because I take it to bed with me every night! :rotfl:

But there is one big pro, as someone up thread pointed out. If you want an iPad for every day use but seldom have occasion to use a camera, why buy and carry a second device? Plenty of families travel with a tablet to amuse the kids on the plane/in lines/at restaurants, to check e-mail or keep connected with work, to watch movies at bedtime, etc. Since they already have that tablet and tote it around, they may not see any reason to purchase, carry, and charge an additional device to improve their photo quality. After all, if those photos are just going to be shared on Facebook or printed as 4x6s for the photo album, iPad/iPod/iPhone quality is typically sufficient.

cameras can be much much smaller and take up barely any room. You can stick in in your pocket or buy a little case for it that goes onto a backpack strap. IF you're really interested in taking any sort of photos, get a camera.

Love love love that the Samsung p&s camera I bought a few months back is wifi enabled. Can upload my pics anytime to storage sites or to face book, now I don't even have to take the laptop with me at all!

I could not imagine using my tablet for pics in the park, I'd be way to worried about it getting damaged.

I realize this is only a small number of the people using iPads in the parks, but I have seen several visually impaired people using them to take pictures. The big size of the screen is a big plus for them. They can also zoom in on parts of the picture just by stretching that portion of the picture with their fingers.

My DD uses her iPad in the parks because she can't speak and it is her voice. We do sometimes takes pictures with it to use in her communication app or to make picture albums for her because it is easier for her to manipulate them on the iPad than anywhere else.

But, we dont take pictures in the dark or block anyone's view. And, since its an important device to her, we keep her iPad in a very protective case.

Thank you for posting this! I have realized that it was rude of me to think it odd. I appreciate you shifing my view! :-)
