Ipad as your camera!! Get real!!

Why not pick up the iPad Camera Kit?

Take your pictures with your real, better camera and then copy them to your iPad for editing and uploading to Facebook in your room at night. A win-win: no laptop to lug around and you won't look like an idiot taking pictures with a giant pan.

Idiots and morons? Really? I've carried my tablet all over the world and managed to use common sense and never offend anyone. I've also never lost, broken or had it stolen. I don't hold it over my head and block people's view ... But, BTW, people do that all the time with those huge SLRs and video cameras. When did it become ok to call someone who has a different point of view and idiot?? So annoying!

Because if I'm walking through a park and I accidentally bump into you, causing you to drop and break your iPad, you're much more likely to get upset and have your trip ruined as opposed to having a smaller camera that is much better designed to take and survive a fall. (Not that it would fall anyway as cameras usually have wrist straps.)

Then that is my fault. Not yours. That is the chance you take when you bring your iPad to the parks. Besides, if I am taking a pic with a character, which is what I used it for 99% of the time, you probable are not going to be running into me.

Again, if I am obstructing your view, okay I see your point, otherwise, let it go. Also, just wanted to add, if I am obstructing your view, I can assure you it is not on purpose. So if you tell me, I will apologize and move for you. So calling me out, which seems rude when stated the way you did, seems like overkill.

But there's no good reason to use an iPad over anything else.

The iPad is LARGER than your average camera.
The iPad has a WORSE LENS & SENSOR SYSTEM than your average camera.
The iPad has WORSE BATTERY LIFE than your average camera.
The iPad takes WORSE PICTURES than your average camera.
The iPad is MORE EXPENSIVE than your average camera.
The iPad is LESS CONVENIENT than your average camera.
The iPad is MUCH, MUCH MORE FRAGILE than your average camera.

There's no Pros in this "Pros vs. Cons" situation that favor the iPad.

Using an iPad as your camera and saying "it's good enough" is like eating Ramen Noodles every day of your life and saying "it's good enough".

I was thinking the same thing, lol!

It would be nice if they had a setting on anything with a screen (some screens on regular cameras are blinding bright) to dim it based on ambient light. If you can turn a switch and put your lens on night time shot, why can't it also put your screen on night time mode at the same time? I mean, the camera knows you are taking a photo in a darkened environment, or you wouldn't be selecting night shot in the first place, right?

For those of you who feel the camera on a phone or ipad/ipod is inadequate, how about the new Nikon and Samsung cameras that are basically the smart part of the smartphone attached to a real camera for a change? They look pretty cool to me . . . .

The problem is that for most P&S cameras and every phone/tablet camera, the screen is the only viewfinder. Dim it based on ambient light and lining up shots becomes exponentially more difficult, so customers complain. So the screens remain bright for ease of use, and have the side effect of aggravating the rest of us.

If someone is holding a big screen over head so as to block the view of others, big issue. We rode the Safari last week with a guy who videoed or took pics with one, it was held at or below his head level, no issue.

That's the safari, though - a daylight setting. Even at head height doing the same thing in PoTC or during an evening show is distracting to the people behind the cameraman because it means a glaring bright light in the darkness.

LOL, well now the Pro is that it bugs you. Seriously, let it go!

You are not going to convince me, maybe others I guess. I will take my iPad with me.

Tell me, can one upload photos straight from one's iPad to Twitter, Facebook etc? If so, I'd imagine that to be a plus :)

That's why when I was shopping for cameras (small and not so small digital) I looked for a viewfinder. If I put it on viewfinder, no one else is inconvenienced by my LCD screens in the dark. I wish more cameras still had them.:sad1:

It's crazy. I remember when I first got my iPad I was kidding with a friend that I could use it as a video camera. We were hysterical laughing at the idea of me holding it up and videotaping events. I never thought people would ever do it.

Correct, but you can upload your (superior) digital camera pictures using the camera connection kit I posted on the last page.

Interesting :)

I must admit, I do use my iPhone to take pictures a lot. It's not as good as a proper digital SLR camera, but it is more convenient.

Now, personally, I wouldn't want to use my iPad as a camera - too cumbersome. But, I can understand why some people would want to :)

But there is one big pro, as someone up thread pointed out. If you want an iPad for every day use but seldom have occasion to use a camera, why buy and carry a second device? Plenty of families travel with a tablet to amuse the kids on the plane/in lines/at restaurants, to check e-mail or keep connected with work, to watch movies at bedtime, etc. Since they already have that tablet and tote it around, they may not see any reason to purchase, carry, and charge an additional device to improve their photo quality. After all, if those photos are just going to be shared on Facebook or printed as 4x6s for the photo album, iPad/iPod/iPhone quality is typically sufficient.

And I think this is great, in fact, thank you for posting this, I didn't even know it existed. It's going on my Christmas list. However, if I chose to not use and use my iPad, that is my choice.

Perfectly said! I can't live without my iPad these days but would never use it as a camera. If I want to take a quick picture of something on the fly I'll pull out my iPhone, but digital camera all the time other than this.

I love my iPad but I can't imagine using it as a primary camera. The camera on my phone is better, the phone is easier to hold on to (and lighter!), and I'm a lot less worried about the phone getting broken since it's in a more protective case.

I can see snapping quick photos at character m&gs, but obstructing people's view during fireworks and parades is not only rude, but I can't see how it's even easy or convenient.

DS20 and I saw quite a few people using their IPads as cameras on our trip. We thought they looked very clumsy to use as cameras, but it didn't impact us, so we didn't care. But we went to the AIE finale one night, and during the "judging" for one contestant, one of the judges said something about not being able to see herself perform -- "oh, wait, you will be able to, because this person is sitting here illegally recording it on his IPad!" They're pretty noticeable. And I'm not commenting on the legality of recording, because when DS performed at AIE the next day, I recorded it on my camera... but at least it wasn't in anyone's way while I did so.

I find it stupid bringing iPads in the park. You're carrying an expensive piece of technology!

yes, you can. I take very few pictures with my iPad though, most of mine are either taken with the iPhone or my digital camera. The plus to taking them with the iPhone is they get loaded onto my iPad through photo stream.

Both my iPad and iPhone are also linked to my wireless printer.

Or get an eye-Fi memory card for your camera and wirelessly transfer pictures to your iPad while you are waiting in the next line:

(There are different versions so make sure you get a version compatiblè with their iPad app. They are just now releasing a class10 eye-Fi card, too)

you know what else drives me crazy? People who take videos on their phone while holding it vertically. Can they not understand that every TV and movie theater has a horizontal picture? Do they never look at these videos again and realize that they made a mistake? Our eyes are side by side. We are setup for horizontal viewing.

Not the Sorcerers of the MK screens, or the animated posters while waiting for a pictures of Mickey ;)

(But yes, I agree with your point)
