IPad 2

First news...

<<10:17AM PT: What about 2011? We haven't been resting on our laurels. iPad 2. It is an all-new device. All new design. First thing is A5 chip. It's dual core. Two processors inside, twice as fast, but graphics - all-out. Nine-times faster graphics. Same low power as A4 chip. First dual-core tablet to ship in volume. Second: video cameras. Rear and front. Also built-in a gyroscope. All of this stuff built-in, yet iPad is 1/3 thinner, 33% thinner. 8.8mm thin. The new iPad 2 is thinner than an iPhone 4.>>

And lastly...
10:23AM PT: Preserves prices, too. Starts at $499 with all the new features. 16/32/64 versions, as before. Add all of these new features together with all of the 65,000 apps for the new iPad, 2011 will be the year of the iPad 2. Shipping? March 11 for U.S. only. Two weeks after that, March 25, in 26 more countries. This thing's going to be everywhere. So that's iPad 2.

And the tech geeks all whip out their credit cards to order one! :rotfl: I was hoping to have it for my hospital stay but I guess not!

I really, really want to order one, but then keep thinking realistically how much will I use it on a day to day basis?

I like the improvements. I especially think the new cases are pretty cool. I guess DD 15 will be getting iPad 1 because I see a iPad 2 in my future.

that case is pretty, but it doesn't prevent scratches on anything. I suppose you could put a skin on it to prevent scratches and use that case???

It only protects the screen but it will be a nice option when you want to carry it around without a full case.

I am sooo excited about this!!! I was hoping they would have lowered the price, but oh well. Hopefully I will be getting one for my anniversary/mother's day/bday combo gift.:rolleyes1 I happen to like the cover, but like a PP said, it won't protect the back.. I will have to do a little research on this.. For those that have the original, do you have the WIFI, 3G, or both? I was thinking I just needed the WIFI as I don't want/need to pay for a data plan.

The thing about the data plan is that you're not in a contract. You can get it for one month and then cancel it for the next which is really helpful if you're going to be traveling.

I am probably going Wi-Fi only also. I don't think I need 3g. But, with the old one at least, you can buy a 3g, but only pay for a data plan when you want it. So, if you were going on vacation, you could get it for a month then cancel.
But my cell phone has the option of being a wi-fi hotspot, so not sure I would even need to have that.

My big issue will be a case, I obsess over cases and skins LOL! And being brand new there will be very few at first.

If you get the IPad through the Apple Store or AT&T, then you only pay for the month you use it in. That is how it was explained to me by an Apple Store employee. So if you use the 3G service in March but don't use it again till September, then you only pay for March and then for September. If you go through Verizon, then you pay every month whether you use it or not.

I will be getting the 3G so that we can use it while we are driving to WDW. :cool1:

OK, I now love that cover, after playing with the little demo on the website. But I would have to get a skin to cover the back, I would hope it would work with a skin, and hopefully it will still close nicely if you have thin skin on the front.

I want one so so so badly!!! My only question is, can you use it as an ereader?

Yes, there is an Ibooks app, or you can get a Kindle app for it. Only problem is, your eyes might get tired reading on a backlit screen, instead of e-ink on a Kindle. I have a Kindle already, so this would not need to be my primary reading device.

I just copied this directly off the Ipad 2 page on Apples website, makes it sound like both are month to month...

Choose your iPad by carrier.
If you decide on an iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G, be sure to select the model that corresponds with the carrier you’d like to use for 3G service. The iPad model you purchase is specially configured to work with either AT&T or Verizon — not both. So while you don’t have to activate 3G service right away, you should choose your iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G according to the carrier you prefer.
When you decide to activate 3G data service, you can choose the amount of data per month you want to buy — with no long-term contract. So if you have a business trip or vacation approaching, just sign up for the month you’ll be traveling and cancel when you get back.

I am so excited. I've been waiting to get one for my husband but I know he wanted the camera first. His birthday is May 1st so this is perfect timing. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and I can get one after the crowds go down a bit. I'm thinking I'll get the WiFi since we have a network at home and my husband travels where there are WiFi networks.

My parents are getting him a case for it for his birthday and I love the new case. Maybe they can get him a skin for he back as well.

cant wait! i can't believe no preorders....we will be waiting in line as soon as the mall opens next friday nothing like 7 hours in line to make you appreciate something!

I am still hoping they might start taking preorders in the next couple of days. I really don't want to deal with crowds, but I will. I won't be there all day though, will only be able to go about 3 or 4 and hope it's not a nightmare.
