according to the magical disney cruise guide , the spa is very strict about not letting pregnant women do the ionithermie algae detox.

so, um, my question is, what if one (or really two, since it takes two to tango) is trying to get pregnant on said cruise, anyone know if there's potential harm to the woman or the ... conception with this treatment?

(yes, my wife and i are gonna try to be like that woman on the commercial who calls her son "the little souvenir" -- at least according to her precocious daughter.)

Hmmmmm...

If you're trying to conceive while on the cruise I would think that you'd be ok because even if you conceived, the egg won't have implanted. BUT.... personally I wouldn't take the chance.

I hope that you get to bring home your "little souvenier"!

Bon Voyage!!!

I would think it would depend upon why it's not for pregnant women.

Anything that is marked as not for pregnant (or nursing) women for chemical reasons (alcohol, OTC medications, "dangerous" foods, etc) should be avoided when TTC.

But if something is marked as not for pregant women for physical reasons (a roller coaster and various physical activities, etc), it shouldn't matter when you are TTC. Even if you are already pregnant but it's just too early to know, I can't think of any physical activities you are likely to want to participate in that could harm such a small embryo (for example, if you were in a car accident, the embryo wouldn't have enough mass for inertia to rip it from the uterian wall, and too small (with too much padding from your body) for crushing forces to affect it.

Of course the best advice is to always consult with a doctor, but when we were TTC with fertility problems, the biggest things were "mommy" avoiding large amounts of caffeine and "daddy" wearing the boxers.

but, I can remember previous posters saying that their cycle was "thrown off" by the treatment, not good if you are trying to conceive.

The treatment is essentially a tens unit hooked to whatever area you choose (for me it was thighs) that contracts your muscles while you are slathered in algea cream. Since I was a "demo" for the spa tour, I probably had it on longer than usual. The contractions didn't hurt, but I'm not sure it did much either.

Whatever you decide have a great cruise

FYI - I did the full treatment on my abdominal area - basically felt like mild labor contractions (read - does not feel 'good' in any way). You lay on a plastic mat, attach electrods and they put all this goup on you that absorbs your 'toxins' and hardens during the treatment. Turns solid by the time you are done (it was pretty gross looking). You are measured before and after the treatment and amazingly 'loose' a few inches.

Honestly it was a complete waste of money and didn't do a thing for me, was not even relaxing.... Go for a massage or facial instead. & good luck!
