Inventions vs Cafe Mickey

We did Café Mickey on our last trip and although the kids had a great time we didn't rate it that much, it felt squashed and crowded, we felt we had very brief encounters with the characters and we did the set menu which we felt was limited.

For this trip we will be using a standard half board voucher at face value to go towards a character meal so options are:

Café Mickey: if just get some pizzas to share and drinks my vouchers will probably cover it.

Inventions: will probably have to pay about 110 euros in addition to the half board vouchers for buffet and drinks.

I would love to do inventions but is the extra money really worth it? Those who have experienced both do you think the more relaxed atmosphere and character interaction I have heard about makes it value for money. Or do you think we just had a bad experience with Café Mickey last time and it being cheap and cheerful is the ultimate factor?

The money is worth it. We stopped going to Cafe Mickey because the bad experiences just kept piling up. it got that bad that the "cheaper" factor wasn't worth it anymore.

I was thinking, the one person to ask would be Vala...I imagine they have a cot set up there for you since you're there so often. ;)

We're doing Inventions this trip, having never done it before. But we'll not be doing Cafe Mickey again...it's way too noisy, crowded and the characters were the same every time we went (2 breakfasts and a dinner)...and the food was mediocre at best. :(

I hate wasting money on food, I've read (nearly) nothing but good things about Inventions, but the price. I think it'll be worth it. :thumbsup2

We've always enjoyed Cafe Mickey but I've just worked out that we haven't been there since 2008 so my opinions really are out of date!

We LOVE Inventions - we have been there more recently in both 2011 and 2012 and have always had a wonderful time. I think it's well worth the extra money as the food is so much better. We've always had great character interaction, especially on a couple of occasions when we were the first ones in there, but in fairness we've always had good interaction at Cafe Mickey too.

If you decide to go to Inventions I'd suggest going at 6pm when they open, if you decide on Cafe Mickey why not go at lunchtime when it's not quite so busy?

Sorry to jump in but how much is Inventions at the minute? Had some good and some bloody awful meals in CM so I'm debating splurging on Inventions in October. It's myself and two kids. Thanks x

No contest! Inventions wins hands down - but take an appetite, then you won't begrudge the cost. There is simply no comparison with the food either... :cloud9:

I actually prefer Cafe' mickey over Inventions myself... not for the location, but food choice (for me).

I'm not really a fish fan, so that's a big chunk of the food inventions offer out the window, and then I'm a bit fussy with meats as well and they only seem to do meats with sauces on etc (and not even simple ones like chicken).

In the end, I ended up paying about 60 euros for spaghetti and meatballs.. ice cream and ham/crackers to start.

If you like fish, definitely worth it i'd say!

Hope that helps :goodvibes

we have always done cafe mickey and will go again this trip but are also going to try out inventions.

the character interaction can be a bit hit and miss. we have had great times there but also times when some characters didn't even get to us.

Can I just ask - we don't eat fish (well most fish) so would inventions be a complete waste for us? Kids slightly fussy too.
We don't arrive in time for the Sunday brunch so would be evening meal.

I don't eat much fish, if any! But I still found there to be masses of choice in Inventions. They do some kid friendly options too, like mickey face breaded chicken, sausages etc... And there is nothing stopping adults choosing these as well.

You'll be fine. I have a severe seafood allergy and fish is totally out for me. Always found more than enough choices for me.

We ate there twice last week and neither of us really eat fish... They always have a carvery, plenty of veg, the most delicious mash or potato gratin you'll ever try, chicken nuggets, mickey potato waffles, lamb shanks (they seems to always have these... and funnily enough we always seem to indulge a little in these too :rotfl: ).... lamb... chicken... and don't even get me started on the dessert selection :woohoo:

You really will not go hungry.
