Looking for how to get around the wildfires if we get derailed off of I-75 in Valdosta. Any suggestions on what roads to take ?:confused3

Read Rt 441 is closed as well. Any locals (S.Ga or N. FL) on the boards? Need help , family without GPS :scared: Leaving next sunday AM and worried about getting majorly lost on side roads.

Check www.georgia-navigator.com before you leave, that will let you know if the road is closed or not. Also make sure you stop at the welocme center to get a new map, as well as info about the current road conditions. The people at the welcome center will be able to show you alt routes if needed.

Need to bail out before Vaaldosta but:

If you take I 16 EAST around Macon (the sign reads Savannah I think) it will take you to I95. Then I95 to 4, etc. This adds around 1 hour and 15 minutes to the drive (compared to I 75 to the FL turnpike)

have been reading (fl511 site and ga dot site) that I-95 has been closed at times too due to the fires
I am getting concerned about travel time with all these fire closings:sad1:

AAHHH!!!! I'm a stick to the highway gal--and 95 was my alt for when we leave in one week!!!! I guess I need to get a map and have my son map out another route for me. Almost makes me want to fly!!!!!!!

BTW-(and please don't LOL if this is a really stupid question)---will heavy smoke possibly interfere with cell phone reception up and down the highway?

Does anyone have a guess when I75 be 100% re-open? I am sure by the end of July when my family and I travel on it the forest fires should be contained by then. I do feel sorry for anyone who needs to use this route now and can not because it must be so frustrating.

Since long range weather patterns are hard to predict noone knows when the fire danger will end. All you can do is check with the websites for road info before you leave. As for it being over by July, well lets hope so, if its not just think of all the fire damage to wildlife and peoples homes.
Pray for rain!!

Your right so let's hope it can start to rain there ASAP.
