Internet Pin Trading? How to start?

Help. I have really gotten into pin trading after my Jan. and April WDW trips. But I am a newbie when it comes to trading with anyone but CMs at the parks and I also have bought a few pins I liked off of EBay for my collection. But I have no idea how PinPics works and how one goes about trading via the internet. Is there a site where I could be educated about internet trading? Or would someone be willing to post and walk me through how this all works.

Also, since I am new I am looking for pin sites to educate myself about what is presently out there being sold in the parks, etc. I have www.dizneypins.com and dizpins.com bookmarked so I can keep up with the new pins coming out. Any other sites that I should be checking out on a regular basis?

Also, my son has a friend who is in WDW right now working with the College Program and I got her started on pin trading when we were visiting in April. She is having fun with it. She just wrote me and offered to pick up any pins I would like her to get. I want to take her up on her offer. On disneypins.com I saw where One Hundred Mickey's Pin Kick-Off is being held in DL on 4/28. I like the pins shown on the site. Does anyone know if these pins will be sold in WDW? If so, where?

Thanks for any info offered. Please email me or post here.

Jeanette,

I'm a pin trading newbie as well, so I'd be interested in getting more info about Internet trading too.

The sites we've found most useful so far are dizpins and pinpics. We've made purchases, but haven't "traded" via the internet yet.

As for the 100 Mickeys, according to Pinpics they are LE to 3,500 of each pin (100 total). The first 5 will be released this Sunday 4/28, and the next 5 will be available 5/5, and so on. These do appear to be limited to DL only, so I don't think you can get them at WDW unless trading with someone who bought them in DL and transported them to WDW.

If you are interested in collecting all 100 of the Mickey pins, let me know. I live about 90 minutes away from DL, so a drive down there on Sundays might be workable. And I would be willing to trade them for WDW only available pins (like the lanyard series pins).

Well, I'm still rather new at this myself, but in the past three weeks, I've done close to 10 internet trades and have been very pleased with the outcome, so I'll share my "knowledge" (for what it's worth!)

If either of you are not familiar with www.pinpics.com, go there and look around, it can be your best friend when it comes to internet trading. They have what's called Trade Assistance. You first need to (register of course - it's free), set up your wants and what you have to trade with. What's cool about Pinpics is they assign numbers to all Disney pins from all over the world. The numbers are in no particular order, they're assigned as a person submits a new pin. There are currently over 11,000 pins in Pinpics, so needless to say it takes a while to set up your wants and tradeables. (It took me over 2 hours!) Once that is done, you can then go into trade assistant and pick which of your pins you're willing to trade for. The program then matches your wants with someone else's tradeables or your tradeables with someone else's wants and sends out an e-mail to that person. If they're interested, they'll e-mail you and tell you they want to make the trade. (You'll also get "no thanks" e-mails too).

To feel comfortable with the trade, before saying yes, check their references in Dizpins. Most people using pinpics, use Dizpins to create references to show they're trustworthy (you look them up by their e-mail address). Once you do that and feel comfy with the trade, swap address info and send out your pin! (Always ask the person you're trading with to refer you in Dizpins and you do the same for them if you feel the trade was successful.)

Like I said, it's lots of fun and helps keep you in the trading mood inbetween big pin meets.

I hope that helps gets you on your way. Don't hesitate to e-mail me with any additional questions. I was LOST my first few times!

Happy trading!

I went to www.pinpics.com today and read everything I could about internet trading, etc. I set up all my pins in the "My Pins" area. Now I have to go back and decide which I would be willing to trade, etc. Then I have to figure out how to pick out pins that I want someone to trade with me. I am sure I will figure it all out but it takes a lot of time. I guess you have to trust your fellow Disney pintrader when doing all this. I assume you both eat the cost of the mailer/postage since both of you incur that expense to trade a pin. I hope to give internet pin trading a try soon.

You'll be surprised how fast you pick it up Jeanette. And while trust is an important factor in internet trading, be sure to check references in Dizpins, just to assure yourself and make it a fun experience and not a frustrating one.

Have fun!
