Internet buddy relationships real?

So real I married one. :flower: Have also met a few others over the years.

As far as safety goes I've never met anyone for the first time in private or alone. Best to stick to public places and bring a friend or relative with you. If the person you are meeting is on the up an up they won't have a problem with this.

Myst

I have a few friends I've made online who I would really consider friends not "friends" people I would have no problem getting together and meeting

I met my boyfriend of 4 years online. We are both big fans of Beauty and the Beast and he contacted me after reading a fanfiction of mine that was on a B&TB fansite. :) He already worked at WDW at the time so now we are local because I chose to come to FL after graduation in TN.

I also have another good online friend who comes to visit every year or so.

I've been meeting people from the net since I was about 17 and never had any problems. You just have to be smart about it.

I have a number of friends I originally met on the internet, but I have met them numerous times in person before considering them friends.

The first time (maybe the first few times) you meet internet acquaintances in person should ALWAYS be in public.

:wave2:

I have met an amazing group of people on the internet. One I have already met and I plan on meeting a couple more in the next coming weeks.

I have made some very good friends on the net. I have spoken to a few of them on the phone, and am planning to meet some of them at WDW on Friday! :flower:

I also went to a DIS meet a couple of months ago, and met some great people!

I've met several people on line, ended up dating a few of them (some for longer than others), and I've got several folks that I met online that I consider friends.

One of the message boards that I read and post on is a college hockey board (USCHO, in case anyone cares)), and every year during the weekend of the NCAA Hockey Championship, a group of us get together, rent some ice time, and play a game of pickup hockey, followed by a trip to a nearby establishment for some beverages (hockey folks like to drink, I've noticed). This "tradition" seems to have caught on, we're having our 5th annual game in April.

Lucky for us you weren't. :rotfl2:

I met my DH ( we have been married 7 years) in an AOL chatroom . long story short we were friends 1st and we both had people we were already dating and after things broke off with his girlfriend he started dating me and well here we are . We were together for about 1 1/2 yr before we married

I have freinds from here that I wouldnt trade in for all the money in the world from THIS board .

Now you do have to be careful what friends you pickup from here cause this is where I got RickInNYC bawwhahaaa

This is cracking me up guys! I love your replies. Please keep 'em coming. Eric - I'm a hockey fan too, which believe me is an achievement this side of the Atlantic. I do play to some extent too! hehheh.

Met DH there! Ages ago, 1992 playing online trivia on AOL! He lived in Ohio and moved here to SC! Married 12 and a half years now!

I wonder if you guys have found people to be what you'd expect (personality-wise) when you did eventually meet? I live on the other side of the Atlantic from my buddy. I know we get on well enough just now, but how possible do you think it is to keep this friendship going?

Only time will tell that and how much you talk right now.

HEY! Why I oughtta...

To the OP, yep, I do think some 'net relationships are very real. Sure, some are superficial but that's exactly the way it is in real life. In fact, back when I was a regular in a couple of bars, I had friends I referred to as "real friends" and others I thought of as "bar friends." I loved my bar friends' company, was genuinely happy to see them, but we never saw each other outside in the real world. Sorta like the 'net these days, eh?

As for those 'net friends I've made, I have met a number of folks from the DIS, two of whom I've become pretty close to, one of which is the smart aleck above, and another is PigletandPooh, aka Wendy.

Hey guys!

Well, I have become friends with a few and intend on meeting one this Saturday to go shopping together. I hope she is not surprised to find out I am not a woman! :confused3

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Imagine your surprise when you find out "she's" not a woman either :rotfl:
Seriously, I met DH on line on AOL (the demon seed of internet providers). We've been married for 5 years come January and together for 7. To me, its no different than being set up on a blind date, meeting someone in a bar...or at work for that matter. You're going to have dishonest people and some that are sincere no matter the route of your meeting. I love my DH to death and like that we "met" in such an unconventional way.

Yes, I have become friends with some people online and do consider them real relationships. We have laughed and cried together and supported each other. I hope to meet every one of them sometime.

I met my ex-husband in a chatroom.

I'm on a private message board where we have get-togethers once a year in a different part of the country each time. I met one of my closest friends on that board. She lives in TX, I'm in NH, but we email daily.

I met another good friend online. We tried dating for a little bit, but decided to be just friends. Okay, I decided. :teeth:

I also have a date this coming weekend with a guy I met online.

Don't worry. I've dated guys I met the convential way too. ;)

Yes, internet relationships are real in my opinion. I've met a lot of nice people especially on the DIS. As a matter of fact I just got back from meeting someone really special from the DIS. We met in NYC a couple of weeks ago and hit it off so well that we are thinking of leaving our spouses for each other. We are planning our getaway now. She's the best pal you could ever have. :goodvibes There must be a lot of pixie dust around here. :)

The only issue we have is that she's a Yankees fan and I'm a RedSox fan. Any idea how we can resolve this issue? It'a a major issue. :teeth:
