See I don't think even requiring a CC is going to stop that.....we don't carry balances on our credit cards, but we have two credit and three debit cards (one of the credit cards is for business expenses, one is Disney VISA that I use for the rewards but pay off weekly, and the debit cards are because we have three different checking accounts).
So....that would mean if I were so inclined I could make 5 different reservations using different cards. And I know in our circle of friends we probably are near the bottom for number of cards they own!
Of course if you required the CC and then had a 48 hour cancellation requirement or else charge a fee of some sort, at least that would mean that people would have to make their decision 2 days ahead of time and there might actually be some hope of either booking an ADR last minute, or walk up. So it has it's positive points.
But another thing I see not working for this.....our trip is in November, but one of my card expires in two weeks....the new one came in this weekend but it has a different expiration date on it of course. I know when that happens I have to call and tell the companies that we have automatic payments (utilities, etc) of the new expiration date. For some reason their system can't just advance the expiration date, it will actually deny the charge (which is a royal pain for me!). So....with Disney letting you make ADRs 6 months in advance, chances that half the credit cards holding those ADRs would have expired and therefor no consequences....well, it's only a matter of time before people work that system to their advantage.
But, it's not like people haven't figured out how to work the system now, and there really is not much that Disney can do about it....they track by phone number right now, but how many families don't have multiple phone numbers they can use (landline, every member has a cell number, work numbers, etc). I gave Disney my cell number for my ADRs in case some change happens while I'm there, I'd hate to have them call looking for me at home when I'm 2,500 miles away, lol.
There will ALWAYS be people who will work the system. I'm hoping that with online ADRs that it will be easier for people to find exactly what they do want, so they won't feel compelled to take what's available and keep trying back to tweak it. I've got several that I keep trying to get better times....but it's time consuming to sit on hold, then have to make small talk while the CM looks it all up, etc. If I could simply go online once or twice a day to check myself it could be quite fast......and like many things I do online I could do it while I'm talking business on the phone (like now, lol.....listening to a customer droll on and on and on).
I think when it first comes out it's going to be a pain because any new system has glitches that weren't worked out.....and the programmers didn't think of this or that....and the public will find ways to break the program.....but if it's really supposed to come out in October....I predict by the time April and booking
Free Dining comes out, it will be ready for that challenge, lol. Too bad they didn't think of this LAST year, so that the bugs would be worked out and I could use it for our trip. Oh well, guess I'll have to start planning another trip when we get home, lol.
