They now have Comcast high speed internet on the computer in the lobby area.

It is $5.00 per half hour and it kicks you off at 30 minutes.

Just an FYI

Thanks for the update floridafam.
Now the $9.95 for 24 hours at WDW DVC resorts seems like a bargain. ::yes::

If you get a chance, can you ask a CM if the rooms or villas will have high speed access in the future. Enjoy the rest of your stay.

The CM said they have no plans to put it in the rooms.

DH said a commercial account is $99.00 per month for the one modem they have.

You have to have a CM log you on each time.

It bugs me to have to pay $5 for half an hour. Especially since it's Comcast.

Oh well.

I wonder what would happen if I tried to login to my Comcast account using my existing account user name and password. I'll have to investigate the setup when we're there next month (actually 2 weeks from Friday :) ).

If a guest doesn't bring a lap top and needs to log on for more than a half hour..........the VB Library is about 10 minutes away and has about 12 PC's and it is FREE.

Thanks for the info floridafam on the high speed. I haven't decided yet if I will bring my lap top next month or not to VB.

High speed internet service, like most of the misc charges hotels try to levy are quite profitable. The going rate at hotels is about six times the retail cost of a single home account. And the hotels are not hooking up individual accounts, but buying bulk capacity.

But I guess they need to offer the service and recover the investment quickly because in a few years we will use wired high speed internet hookups about as much as we use wired phone service today.

Some hotels (though not Disney) offer business centers with free high speed internet. Which is fine with me.

My DH said they pay about $99 a month for the cable modem here at VB. They get it from Comcast here in VB. They make way over the cost of the modem with people paying $5 for half an hour.

It automatically shuts you off after 30 minutes, no matter what you are doing.

have data ports so we can use our laptops in our rooms?

How much is that?

My husband, 6 month old daughter and I are going to VB for the first time on June 4th. My husband and I have online college courses and will need to log into them while we are there.

Thanks for any information.

They told me there is a data port in our rooms and that it cost $9.95/per 24 hour period.

Is this currently correct?

I just called the VB front desk and they said it is "dial up" only from the rooms.

The info floridafam posted above is correct also($5 per half hour) from the lobby PC.

Just returned from Vero.

We spent more for internet access there than we have for the last 5 years.

Went down to use it one night about 9:30-had to take care of some things-should have brought our own computer. We were told we couldn't use it. It "shuts down" at 10 pm.

I wonder why they just don't put the cost of the modem in our dues. It would be almost nothing.
