Internet Access at DVC HH

Does anyone know what options there are for internet at Hilton Head? Thanks.

At this time, there is no broadband access at the resort (I don't know if there any plans to add it either.)

I usually call one of the local providers - ISLC (Internet Services of the Low Country) - and they have a special "vacation" rate (I think it was $10) for a week's dialup service. There are not a lot of choices available. I do know that AOL is available and even used a "free" trial a few years ago- but that was a pain getting all of the AOL spam off my computer afterwards.

For DVC members, there is a $0.35 charge for each local call ($0.75 for other guests) - and make sure it is a LOCAL number, otherwise there will be surcharges in addiiton to the long-distance charges and any calls off the island are long-distance.

If you won't have a laptop, some have reported using computers at the local library. To my knowledge there is no business center at the resort for guests to use.

The local phone company is Hargray. H. also has a few wi-fi hotspots scattered around the island; I don't know if Shelter Cove is one of them or if the vacation package works for that.

You can also get free wi-fi access at Mellow Mushroom Pizza and Panera bread. Neither are too far from the resort, but you'd have to drive to get there.

I've also used Hargray for dialup service, but it was more ($20 for a month's dialup service) with no price break if you were there only a week or less. I found no difference in the service using ISLC. I don't think WI-FI is available at the resort even though Shelter Cove is right across the marina. That would be nice though!

Shelter Cove is supposed to be a Wi-Fi hotspot. Not sure if it reaches to the resort but you could always go grab a beverage at one of the outdoor restaurants.

We were there a little over a week ago. My husband could not get the wi-fi at the resort, but was able to over at Shelter Cove.

On our last trip (which seems forever ago... ) , one of the small
"Things to Do" guides had an ad for Hargray in it that listed the hot spots on Hilton Head Island.

Unfortunately, I don't remember where they are, nor do I remember exactly which of the many free guidebooks available had this information! (I think I need a vacation!! )

Maybe the Hargray website will show it??

Oh, I certainly HOPE it's calling me! LOL!! We'll be there again for July 4 week. Will you be around??
