Anything worth getting will almost always require being put on a wait list which usually comes through about 6 months or less before your trip. A signifcant number never match though. If you're looking at this option as a regular choice, I'd recommend you just consider buying less points and either use cash for the non DVC trips or look at a regular timeshare option. Nothing about exchanging is truly easy. 160 points in the max for a 1 BR RIGHT NOW and it's 270 for a 2 BR and higher for a 3 BR but a little (not much) lower for a studio.

II resort quality is all over the place. Do not assume because they're on the exchange list that the value or quality is similar, that's usually not the case.

I had tried to exchange through DVC for California and Arizona a couple of years ago and was put on a waiting list, but then canceled the exchange after a few weeks. But I was being very selective as to which resorts and weeks I would take, and I wanted to reserve the exchange at about a year ahead. Since then I have done two private exchanges -- but a large amount of trust is needed but both have worked out well. Check out the classifieds on tug2.net - DVC is always in demand.

Good luck!

Dean, how difficult is it exchanging to Hawaii? I'm giving my brother week at the Marriott in Kauai for September, put in a request sometime beginning of November and still haven't heard.

What's your experience with this location, if any?

Appreciate any feedback you are able to provide...thanks!

I'm assuming that you are trying to trade DVC for Marriott. If you are trying to get a studio, you're chances are good for Sept. Only fair for a 1 BR and very slim for a 2 BR. You should looke for a direct exchange. Still, you are looking for Sept, one of the lower demand times for HI. If you do match, there's a good chance it'll be inside the 60 day window. Good luck.

Is there any news on the new Marriot Vacation Club resort being built on Oahu? Any idea if it will become a DVC exchange option? I'm specifically interested in June-July 2005. Thanks.

MS told me that the Oahu Marriott is open (although construction will continue for a couple of years) and you can ask for it in a trade through DVC. There are also a few reviews posted on TUG.
