Interesting Update

Rebecca's disappearance has been investigated by the police in the Bahamas, where the Disney Wonder is registered.
:happytv:
But after a search of the vessel, officers found no evidence of foul play and concluded their inquiries

The family has voiced their fear that there were not nough resources committed to solving the mystery of their daughter's disappearance

And those fears are well based. According to what Rebecca's uncle shared in a prior interview, the so-called "investigation" conducted aboard the Wonder by the Bahamas police when it returned to L.A. after Rebecca disappeared consisted of one -- yes, just ONE -- officer who was aboard for just a few hours. Yep, one investigator to search the whole vessel for evidence, interview potential witnesses as well as the ship staff. And after that superficial, cursory effort announce to the world a presumed definitive, ironclad conclusion there was no evidence whatsoever of any possible wrongdoing surrounding what is still a completely unexplained disappearance.

I'm sure they would have said if there were, but I'll ask anyway...aren't there lots of security cameras covering all public areas of the ship? If she went overboard, would it be on tape? Or is that incorrect?

Some one posted earlier, maybe incorrectly, that there are areas of the ship not under video survelliance. If you are correct, then they probably do know what happened.

There are cameras onboard in most areas of the ship. They serve a dual purpose.

1 is security. These are pointed at specific areas of the ship, on the off chance someone wants to come onboard uninvited, such as the line handling rooms on the stern, the doors on deck 1 that lead out of the ship etc. They can also tell if someone got off unexpectedly. Theyere usually taped.

2 is fire protection. Some one on the bridge can visually verify a fire, in say an engine room or a public space, before some one picks up a phone.

While we did a bridge tour, pre 911, we saw the actual security room on the bridge. On the Magic class, unless it moved, its on the port side, just behind the wheel house. The door was open and you could see in. There was no mistakeing what it was.

I dont remember seeing cameras in the hallways, but I know they are fairly common on the outside decks.

I wonder if they are continually taping (and possibly taping over) or if they are just running feed to video monitors...
