As I read that thread, that is the foremost thought in my mind. I would feel terrible if all those kids got turned away. It's for that reason that I bet Disney will let the mom get away with this. What a mess! :sad2:

I thought that too but I also wouldn't want to have a child see a parent not obeying rules and asking for special treatment just because they think they are entitled. That just perpetuates the cycle of people feeling entitled to things just because they want them. That is, if in fact, she doesn't NOT have special arrangements.
I am just such a "follower of the rules" that it is hard for me to keep up with this thread.

If ANYONE is going to be there that day PLEASE! Check it out, and for all of us, complain if you see it happening. It is not fair, and I get so sick of folks throwing their weight around "because we paid more than you as DVC members". Well, ALL of us DVC members paid for our points, and it is NOT fair that someone who blatantly thinks the rules don't apply to them should get away with stuff like this. In a case like this I could and would be a whistle blower.
I agree with this. I have a friend that is also a an owner, as am I and when she called member services recently to add on a day at BCV to her June vacation just so they could swim the CM said over and over "oh, you don't need to do that, just go on over, it's fine. My friend kept saying that she knew that we weren't supposed to pool hop, but the CM kept saying that it really wasn't a big deal and not to book at BCV for the one day. My friend booked the day anyway. She didn't feel right about "sneaking in" as the CM had suggested and the example it set for her daughter.

That's a *great* example to teach her child that will pay off years from now :) Just because you might be able to get away with something doesn't mean you should try it! :goodvibes

I think some CM's *still* don't realize SAB & AK have rules onto their own compared to other pools... Sure, she could swim in a quiet pool at BCV, but who wants to do that compared to SAB!!! :woohoo:

Again, these types of things all seem to come back to a training issue, which does seem to plague Disney and many other large corporations.

Having just returned from a stay at BCV, (the Thursday before Easter...granted, a very crowded time so enforcement may be tighter) I can attest to the fact that without a BC, YC or BCV room key to show the CM stationed right at the entrance to SAB in order to receive a wristband, you will not be admitted into SAB.

I witnessed a scene where a very unhappy mother with small children was turned away even after a futile attempt by the mother explaining that the front desk told her she would not need her room key in order to gain entry to SAB, so she left her room key in the room. Despite her insistance, they were NOT allowed to enter SAB.

Since it seems even CM's don't always know Disney policies, I really wish primary corporate policies (those that have an effect on all guests if abused) such as pool hopping, smoking, etc...were gone over at the time of reservation. Then, they could be printed off at check in as a fresh reminder and guests would be required to acknowledge them with their signature. This would probably head off 90% of the problems. It would also alleviate a lot of the bad information handed out by some CM's.

I would as well....at the same time, someone's heart has to get broken. There are lots of people in the Orlando area - $300 for a room at the Y&BC is peanuts for a kids birthday party for 20 at a pool. They let this Mom get away with it and you'll see ad hoc birthday parties all over SAB - and the other Disney hotels - won't take long for half of Orlando (and it sounds like 20% of Tampa) to say "that's a great idea!"

I've no doubt birthday party mom called and was told that they could have guests at SAB. I've no doubt the person she talked to was not authorized to tell her she could have 20 kids plus their parents. Whether birthday mom said "a few" guests and the CM thought "what could three extra kids hurt" and say yes, or mom said "I'm bringing the class" and the CM didn't realize that this wasn't something they couldn't say yes to, who knows.

While my family and I may not be DVC members what I do know is non DVC members can stay at the Yacht Club and Beach Club, so this pool party would also effect non DVC members staying at the Beach Club during this time. So just remember it is not only the DVC members who would also be effected, because this is not a DVC members only issue.

There's a link in the 2nd or 3rd post on this thread.

Yes we know its not only DVC members who are effected..we don't need you to point it out...;) ..but we already know you have no problem with it as YOU won't be staying there so won't be effected.(nice attitude)..you've told us this over and over on the other thread...we heard you the first time!:rolleyes1
So I really don't know why you continue to post on this subject...you don't care what happens..OK..we get it!:lmao:

BTW I'll explain the post you just quoted because you are not understanding it...the poster was refering to the fact that party mom is a DVC member and shouldn't be flouting the rules....and also this is the DVC board you know so don't feel put out if the majority of topics are from a DVC view point.

:surfweb:

Reading this thread has been interesting, to say the least. However all this discussion won't make any difference unless the issue is brought to the direct attention of those able to affect its change.

Does anyone have the telephone number of the resort?

While it's true the management of Disney reads these boards, and a few CMs post here, it will take a while for word to filter down from on-high. In the meantime, this "party" will have taken place and the point will be deemed somewhat moot.

Members, however, can shine a light on this issue in short-order with a phone call.

...just thinking out loud...

I agree, but since DVC members normally have the right to pool hop everywhere BUT SAB, it is THAT perk I was refering to.

I think some folks on the original thread think "it's just 20 kids, so no big deal", but I think the issue IS the misuse of the rules. I also think it is more than "just 20 kids". I'm sure those 20 kids will have one or two parents with them, and if they have siblings, they too will likely be coming along. It seems so many seem to think rules don't apply to THEM anymore. I would have no problem with this if there was a way to "go through channels" for it, but I doubt there is, and if they truly are setting a precedent with this, they wont be able to keep anyone out or away from pool hopping there again. Why is this party any different than the folks who come from off site and park at the OKW pool?

You are right -- it's not any different. Like you said, you let one person in, then one party, then 10 parties, soon no room for anyone...

I seriously doubt this party gets in to SAB....

I am certain however that if this was at the Contemporary you would be posting and posting, even if you were not staying there.

Some of us are actually concerned about resorts in general, not just those we frequent. And frankly, it's a good thing that you didn't post your comment about DVC owners on this thread, but rather the resorts thread, as I would consider it as a personal attack to the many owners who post here.

Back on topic, I suspect that one of a few things may have happened
- Mom called and asked, and has a clueless CM who told her 'no problem'
- Mom didn't think to call and ask
- Mom called and asked, was told 'no', and is going to try anyways

if it was option 3, ultimately Disney looks like the 'bad guy', not Mom, as it will be Disney who will deny entry.

I empathize with the CMs at the Beach Club that day

I've been watching both threads :surfweb: and while I really don't agree with what this woman is doing, or has done; if I lived a reasonable amount of distance away, I would not hesitate to rent a 2 bedroom at BCV's and invite 6 of our kids' best friends... a 2 bedroom allows for eight bracelets, and I think that allotment should be given... If I had more than 8 kids, I'd rent another room to make up the difference....

So, as I've said, while I don't agree with what it seems this woman is doing, I do think it's possible for DVC members to have parties while using their DVC accomodations (and believe me, I'd be getting a kitchen sink or two from Beaches and Cream)..

This would certainly be within the rules and regulations and no one should have a problem IF this is what was done. This is also what I would do and have actually considered doing for our trip in Sept so that I could get those 8 wristbands. I think we are going to BB instead however.
