Interesting Photography Debate

YES! That's what we're saying!! :worship:

Some of us take longer than others to understand. That is why I had to mull this over in my head for a few days before posting anything.

However, unless you were given the rights to all the photos to do with as you please, it is still illegal to copy them in any way unfortunately. It sucks, but it's true.

I know...but I like to whine about it anyway :)

Well, you should whine about it. At least it informs people about the poor service (as far as the photos themselves are concerned) and maybe they will go into it more informed and try to get the rights to the photos right off the bat.

As I posted on the other thread, we only paid about $300 for our photographer and got all the permissions that we needed to make prints! She also spent about 6 hours with us and there were so many photos that it took two CDs.

I would never go to a photographer that i couldn't get these permissions from.

And yes, many of those people paid more for photography than we did for our:
Wedding
Honeymoon
Rings
And 1st Year Anniversary

All put together!

"those people" :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:
I was referring to the ones on the other thread, that were posting the insane prices paid for photography, just for the record, I didn't mean it demeaning in any way. We spent about $2,500 for our entire wedding and honeymoon, that includes the plane trips to UT to get the dress, the cost there was $250 vs. the exact same dress here for $3,500 and yes the dresses were exactly the same, from the same manufacturer, we never told the different shops about each other and they gave us the manufacturer's name, address and phone number and the other difference was that if it needed modification the place in UT would have only charged about $50 vs. $250 here in California, turned out it didn't need anything though (there were other reasons we went as well, but all wedding related)

We paid $50 for the cake (and boy was it good, everyone loved it!)

The reception and wedding was at our church, so we didn't have to rent a hall or anything.

The food at the reception was donated by many of our friends, we did spend some money though on that.

We spent 10 days at WDW with free dining and our plane tickets were about $120 per person.

Needless to say, we shop for the bargains (that doesn't always mean the cheapest price either, it means the most for your money)

And of course there were decorations and such, the invitations cost us about $40, as we got them through a company that my work does business with and they gave us a deal.

Unfortunately, we did have to pay full price for all of the stamps.

Sorry, way more information than you wanted to know and way :offtopic: sorry about that, back to the main point.......

Now did we have the absolute best photographer in the world? No, but we got some great pictures and some lousy ones too, we definitely got more than our money's worth out of it and we can do what we want with the photos, edit them, print them, share them, etc.

Speaking of sharing them, here's the link to our photos:

Now, these photos include:
Photos of when I proposed - Taken by us and total strangers at the San Diego Wild Animal Park
Our Engagement Photos - Taken with my Kodak DX 7630 and Nikon Cool Pix cameras by a friend of ours.
Our wedding Photos - Taken by our photographer
Our reception photos - Taken by our photographer
Our Honeymoon Photos - Taken with the same cameras as listed above by us, photopass photographers and the occasional stranger and/or passing CM.

Also, due to some uploading issues, there may be duplicates, sorry about that, I am still weeding them out.

I was laughing because I am the OP from the other thread lol I didn't take offense I just thought it was funny.

I see, just making sure, sometimes I think I am saying things so well, I go back and read it and realize just how poorly I put it.:rotfl:

Oh, yeah, I agree completely. My point on this is that these "photographers" as they call themselves seem to be just cast members at Disney. Sure, they may be photographers, but they aren't contracting the work for themselves, so these photos (I would think) effectively belong to Disney. For the prices people are saying, I would think that Disney could give these people the rights to do with them as they please. Now if they were photographers that are in business for themselves (and not Disney employees), that is different. It's their company, so they can do what they want with the negatives/originals. That is their way of making a living. In this case though, it seems as though they are just Disney employees.

Is this making any sense? :confused3

of course not:rotfl2: ;)
personally i have never considered disney to do anything at "bargain" prices so i would expect them ( if they "own" the photographers, ie they are their employees i would guess they own the rights to what they take) to make as much on everything as they can. that's the disney way, why would a wedding ( that is way expensive at disney from what i have seen to begin with) be any different:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

and not to be mean but really usually you get what you pay for...if someone wants to hire their 12 yr old cousin to take photos for $20, you probably are going to get photos worth $20. so while the $300 photos are cherished moments for the party who bought that photo set, i don't think most would think they are great shots in a technical sense(for example lots of time the faces were in shadows, posing was off etc and i'm not even a wedding photographer :rotfl: i didn't go through all 80 pages btw, just some of the wedding ones). that's fine if that is ok with the customer but they got what they paid for. if someone is getting $$$ for photos it's because people are willing to pay that, either cause they do great work, or that is the going rate in the area or because like in the case of disney, that's the option if you want your wedding there and those photos of your wedding. i would assume it's contractual so it should be in the contract what you get right?

i just know i would have asked for samples of the photographer's work, asked what was included in the package etc before i shelled out a few thousand . that is only being a good consumer.. not checking that stuff out makes you the loser in the deal but you still should go by what is legal.

Not to be mean.... but maybe Disney realizes that the odds are those wedding photos will be torn up in a fit of anger as the divorce happens, so why bother making nice photo to be burned.

That's what I did! (I also have a CD of all images - given by the photographer - in a safe spot; she was too good of a photographer to destroy the CD)

Hahahaha. Disney is a business. Their main goal is to make money.

Oh, I know that. However, I personally think that these people have paid a "fair" price in Disney terms for the overly fair photos they have received so I would think that they should get the rights to the photos. Heck even if they charge 3 or 4 thousand, just give the rights to the people. Get it over with. Then they don't have to deal with it. How many of these crappy shots are actually re-ordered anyways? I would think it would be in their best interest to just get it done with. Just my opinion.
