I know that in the wild, cats normally eat rabbits. I took a chance when I brought Thumper into our home last May and took many precautions to be sure that the cat never had any chances to...ah....nibble on the rabbit!
To my surprise, Mother Nature threw me a twist before I knew it, the rabbit was chasing the cat!!!
Well, now I see something new happening with their relationship. It looks as if the cat is trying the be a 'friend' to Thumper!!
During the day, I normally put the rabbit's box on my bed as my room gets full afternoon sun and Thumper likes to lay in the sun. I have been finding the cat sleeping next to the box, normally positioned so that she is looking in on Thumper. If I am holding the rabbit while sitting on the couch, the cat will jump up and sit in my lap with the rabbit!!! Now, when the rabbit is out for floor time, the cat will walk up to her and if the rabbit doesn't start to chase her, she will flop over and roll so that she is on her back, her head upside down on the floor. They will sit like that for several minutes, the cat, belly side up and the rabbit sniffing at her upside down nose!
It is interesting to see the two of them interact.
Makes you wonder why humans can't act like this....even though they are enemies by instinct and nature....they are learning to accept the other and be friends. Looks as if they are putting their differences behind them and creating a better world for each other.
