Interesting Info in August Vacation Magic email

First of all, I'm jealous of all you who don't take your wonderful Disney vacations and rent your points. I have quite a few and always find a way to use them or bring friends and family when we go. To add to Doc's comments about making a profit if you have owned for quite a while, he is absolutely right. We have a small contract at the BCV which we have only used once in the 4 years we've had it. We prefer the BWV where most of our points are. (Now all you BCV owners don't take offense, we had a great stay there and everyone was great as was the room, we just prefer the BW.) So we are selling it and making a profit after only having it 4 years.

I'm always confused that some owners aren't familiar with banking and borrowing. When we figure we'll have a few points left over (seldom happens), we bank those into the next year. More often, we're borrowing out of next year to make our reservation. With our two smaller contracts - 100 points at VWL and BCV each - we bank and borrow to get the best use prior to the 7 month period. So the need to get someone to transfer 10-15 points to me doesn't exist.

We don't go every year (only every 2-3 years) and we only have a 150 point contract, because that is what made sense for us (travel habits and financially).

I am very familiar with banking and borrowing and I have banked and borrowed, however, in my Dec 2006 UY, I will have 6 points that I will not be using (I have already borrowed the other points into my 2005 UY). Banking those '06 points into my 2007 UY does me no good as we will not use DVC before those points would expire (trip to Ireland planned). So if I bank those 6 points into '07 UY, I can no longer transfer them to another owner, and they will be lost as I won't be using them. However, if I am able to transfer them to someone, then they are not lost.

This could happen in reverse, if say, I am bringing family and I am short by only a few points for one additional night. I have watched the rent/trade board and I have seen people who have a few points to transfer or need a few points. It's not often, but they are there.

By only being able to transfer in or out, 1 time per UY, it will limit/discourage those small transfers. JMHO.
