We were dining at Boma on July 27. When we handed her the DDE card, she shared some interesting info she had been told (please note, this is only info she shared with us that she had heard, and we all know you can't always trust what CMs say)--
*The price was going to increase alot. She didn't say exactly how much, but she said considerably alot more.
*There will be an automatic 18% gratuity added to your bill- no matter what the size of your party is. I'm not sure if she meant only if you use the card, but nonetheless....

I don't know about anyone else, but if what she said is true (like said, you can't always beleive what CMs say) it really sucks. What ticks me off the most is the 18% gratuity. Tipping is something that you pay for good service. It is up to you to decide how much you give depending on the value of the service you receive. I feel that the server will know they are going to get an automatic tip, so they won't do as well.
We had this happen at Chef Mickey's. There was a party of 9 of us. We knew we were going to get the gratuity added on-no problem, but in return, I expect GOOD service. Well our server was just awful- waited 10 min for him to greet & take drink orders, we had all eaten our first plate of food before we got our drinks, had to go find him throghout the restaurant to get refills- it was a BAD experience. Then he completely messed up our check and so on and so forth. He gained about a $50 tip from us that night- and we all felt totally ripped off.

Anyways, back on track. If they do make the changes I won't buy the card & won't dine at TS as much. Just wondering if anyone else had heard this, and how they feel?
Just my little bit of news from my trip! :)

Not heard about any price increase--mine was $65 and I get to use it all the way through next May!! If they do increase the price, there may well be an "upper limit" beyond which if they go, folks won't see the DDE as a value.

And the 18% dosen't bother me at all. We always tip 20% anyway, and never had a service issue while using the card. That gratuity was added, I think, because many folks were tipping on the discounted amount ,rather than the original amount, of the check.

I agree. Also how will they know you're using the DDE to decide what kind of service to give? I don't pull mine out until the check comes.

There's a post on the theme park forum about the new plan. It starts on 1/1/08 and there is a price increase, appetizers and tips are not included.

This thread is taking about the DDE (buy card, get 20% discount), not the DP as you reference with no appetizers.

We will have to see about how high they increase the price. As for the auto 18% thats no problem at all they just get cut 2% from what we normally tip when using the card anyhow. We also don't let them know until we ask for the check.

The thing is you can at any point refuse the auto 18% by asking for a manager and having them override it this also stresses to them that the service was not up to par. We have never had it that bad at any of the WDW eateries but you never know.

HI
We had a relly bad experience at Chef Mickeys .
We dined as a party of 8 -6 adults , my six year old daughter , and 15 month old baby boy.
Our server was the worst we have ever had.No refills were offered on the drinks , the check was left on the table while we were all still on our main courses, and no one was asked if they would like a cofee.
Our server got $40 gratuity from us , she didn't deserve $1 in my opinion. she was rude , and misereble .

I didn't realise we could have the gratuity over ridden if we spoke to the manager.

I haven't been to Disney for a little over 2 years , and to be honest I think the service has declined. We dine on Disney property for 14 nights , and the only places where we had service like it used to be was at;
Cape May , Narcoosees ,California Grill and Yachtsmans Steakhouse. The rest ,the service was below average.
