Interesting "critter conversation" with housekeeping

hi everyone- I'm here now and wanted to relay an interesting/disturbing conversation I had with a supervisor of housekeeping. We stayed our first two nights at CR and now are at The Swan, where I had "the talk".

We got into our room and I noticed we had about a dozen ants by the baseboards over by one of the beds. I called and they sent up the supervisor of housekeeping to take care of it. (She did by the way and haven't seen any since). But I got to talking with her and said I understand it's Florida and there are all types of critters here. She then went on to tell me she had a pretty big snake in her pool yesterday. I said "well I can handle ants in my room just not snakes". She then said "no your on the 6th floor your fine". She then said pretty much anyone that works in housekeeping knows you never stay on the first floor while in Florida". I then said "really? You get calls about snakes"? She said more often then you think and that people leave their patio doors open and things crawl in and that some people even sleep with their patio doors open to get the fresh air? She said it might look like nothing is in there and then eventually they make themselves noticed...

Oh man this freaked me out. Not trying to scare anyone but thought I would at least pass along what I heard. No more ground level for me!

We lived in an apartment complex in Jacksonville for awhile. On the first floor, and we had snakes trying to come in all the time.
Being up high doesn't necessarily mean no critters, though. The third floor apartments were leaving their trash bags outside the door. The raccoons would climb the stairs and help themselves.

I'm not shocked they find snakes. I'm shocked there are idiots sleeping with their patio doors open.

BTW, snakes can climb. Don't leave your balcony door open either. Somewhere on the DIS is a thread with pics of a second floor room in a CR garden wing where a snake nest complete with eggs was found up in the curtains.

Not surprising at all. We had a pretty big turtle outside our longhouse at the Poly. My kids thought it was the coolest thing ever.

I love the first floor and always request it. I hope everyone reads this thread so I have a better chance at getting my requests met. :teeth:
You can count on me!:)

I never stay Ground Floor.

During my stay at All-Star Music earlier this year, this little guy got into a First Floor room-I was on Third Floor!:)

There's a thread around here with a picture of a snake in a resort room. If I'm remembering right, it was at the Contemporary Resort.

Oh no! I knew there was critters etc and I read a while ago about them in rooms but I'm checking in Saturday and its reignited something......now I'm going to be a super fussy customer......no 1st floor and no dormer room ( staying at GF ) :scared1:

Yup, there are plenty of critters in FL. I think the main takeaway here is to keep doors and windows closed or have screens. That is one of my pet peeves with hotels, they don't have screens that would allow for fresh air without the critters.

I live in Georgia and we've had snakes, racoons, rabbits, mice and every kind of insect you can imagine in our house. At night we have a pack of coyotes who have decided our backyard and the neighbor's backyard is a wonderful place to hang out and howl. Every morning in the winter when we get up we see at least 3 deer in our yard. I don't worry about it, I always ask for a first floor room in the moderate resorts because climbing stairs is hard for my son (he has permanent nerve damage in his spinal cord from a virus he got in the Navy). My only worry would be if a snake were to come in, my son would want to play with it for awhile.

I lived in Florida all my life. We occasionally get a racoon, possum, snake, rat, etc in our backyard. I have seen many critters on WDW grounds, including all the above. I am not surprised that they had snakes in the rooms on the first floor.

Wow

Those deer aren't very bright, given the presence of the coyotes!

the coyotes are new this year, evidently they have already grabbed a small dog in the neighborhood, didn't kill it but did a lot of damage. We have a little yorkie but she is potty pad trained and we don't let her out without one of us. There are also big hawks that like to swoop down and grab little doggies, happened to a friend of ours. The place we are looking at to board her doesn't let the little dogs go outside at all because of the birds of prey.

We have both around here too, see them all the time. We don't do small dogs for this reason.

We have both too. Less than an hour ago the Hawk was in our yard again, eyeing the squirrels. I don't worry about my dogs, they are fairly big, but the neighbor has 3 tiny yappers and we have told her to keep an eye out.
