Interesting childrens names

Two girls that belong to our skating club are named Garden and Gather.

My 3 yr old daughter's name is: Nevaeh Celeste.
Neaveh (pronounced: Ne vay ah) is Heaven spelled backwards.
This is the one and only name my husband and I chose. We have very common names (Jennifer & Brian), so I promised myself her name would be different and unique!! I can't wait to bring her back to Disney World! :)

I can't believe I didnt post this name sooner. My nephew is 6 years old and one of his good friends has a very "unique"........Da'Millennium. I will give you one guess what year he was born. hahaha

My name is Nova pronounced just as its spelled. I love it.....but I can never find personalized stuff :teeth:

Please don't take offense at this question, but I have always been curious as to why parents name their children something they know going in that the child will have to fight mispronounciation and misspellings thier whole life? I think it is just uncomfortable for the person on both sides. I understand the need to be unique, but it can be carried too far.

Anyone?
ITA and I hate most of the "new" but in my opinion made up names. I grew up with a name that my parents wanted a different pronunciation for. Well guess what, by the time I was in kindergarden, I would use the common pronunciation and never used their's again. DSis's name they added a letter to it and she could never find anything with her name on. Yes I have ODD parents.

My childhood next door neighbors named all of their daughters after the month in which they were born. Their names are:

Augustina (for August)
Julydia (for July) - pronounced JEWEL-IDIA
Janulita (for January) - pronounced JAN-YOU-LIDA
Februlina (for February) - pronounced FEB-YOU-LEENA
Crystal Junella (for June) - pronounced JUNE-ELLA

My daughter's name is a bit unusual...Presley Grace. Not too weird or strangely spelled. There just aren't a whole lot of Presleys around.

My niece is named Presleigh Carolyne (Caro line). My sis (the mom) middle name is leigh so that is why the change in spelling and my moms (grandma) name is Carol so Carolyne it is.

ETA: After reading all the pages I have not seen a Colin ( like Collin not the body part Colon). Collin was to much like a last name so I took 1 L out. For some reason we go by middle names so I have a Michael Kyle and a Marcus Colin.

I do know a family who named their first daughter Je'Brenda (Dad-Jeff, Mom-Brenda) and the second daugher is Tiffany....... :confused3

ETA2: I have a cousin who named her son Rake. Im not sure of the spelling but it is pronounced Rake.

I've heard of one other little girl who lives in Milan, TN named Presleigh and it was spelled that way because of the mother's name being "Leigh"....this wouldn't happen to be your neice would it? Your screen name referring to being southern and Milan, TN being southern definitely has my curiosity peaked. It would be such a cool coincidence.

My DS23 is normal Richard, but DS10 has both his Grandfather's middle names and also my favorite character from a book. He's one of those 4 names in total kids.

Gordon (Paternal Grandfather's middle name)-plus I love that name.
Atticus (from to Kill a Mockingbird)
Lee (Maternal Grandfather's middle name-also a "family" name: Sister's, Nephew, 2 neices and my son's middle names).

Had he been a girl-it would had been Moncie Ellen after my Great-Grandmother. Never met her, but the stories I would hear about what a strong southern woman she was, made me admire her regardless.

My parents gave me Lisa Claire. Hated Claire growing up, sounded old (since it came from both Grandmother's name of Clare.), but I love it as an adult and am proud to have it.

We picked DS10's name while pregnant and never once changed it. But of course we had several "odd" names picked out, but would not had used them:

I tease him all the timeand tell him, if you had been a girl you would had been Faye Rhea (Grandmother's middle names), he's thankful! :rotfl2:

When our son was born 5 years ago we decided on a simple name. We went through all of the possibilities of how it would be changed/jokes in school, etc. We wanted a name that was not confusing as to gender, etc. Our sons name is Kyle Madison. Madison is a family middle name from my husband that goes back many many generations. Anyway, at the time I had heard of Madison for a girl but no problem there because it was his middle name and it was a family name. So I never thought we would have a problem with Kyle. The first week our son was born my husband had a co-worker ask him why he named his boy a girls name. I never thought of Kyle as a girls name. I had heard of Kylie which I liked for a girl but not Kyle. So my husband says it is not a girls name and the guy said his wife is named Kyle so my DH says why does your wife have a boys name! Since then I have heard of a two girls being named Kyle. I never thought of Kyle as being one of those names that goes both ways but who knows now a days. (Also, the two women I heard of named Kyle were in their 30's so its not like it is something recent).

No, my family is further south than TN. Mobile, AL to be exact, right on the gulf coast. That is a coincidence though.

My oldest DS is named Kyle. I have never heard of Kyle for a girl/woman only Kylie like you said.

I hate, hate, hate the trend of naming girls traditional boys names! I named one of my sons long before I'd heard a girl with his name. Then when he starts kindergarten there was a girl with the same name. It just really bugs me. Also my three children's names are spelled the traditional way and it bugs me when someone asks me if Christopher is spelled with a K or just a C (no H). Once when I was in a mood and was asked I told the woman that was taking a bd cake order that it was spelled the "right" way with a Ch. I sort of felt bad later. Sort of.

All five of our kids have either different names or spellings. I guess my DH and I were tried of how common our names were.

So to irritate some readers out there, I will list their names and spellings :rotfl2: :

Caeleh (kay-lee)--I loved that name. DH choose the spelling. She loves it because ...well I do not know why!! I am not sure that she will always like it, but it is special--do not know too many dads that would go out of thier way to spell thier DD name!! Maybe that is why she loves her name??

Kayd--he is 5 now, but I had never heard of that name in the US before he was born. He is named after our New Zealand exchange student's brother. I knew that was going to be the name of my son--if I had one--as soon as I heard it. Funny thing--my DS is as wild and crazy as his name sake!!

Cullen--Had to stay with the hard C/K sound. I picked this one out of a baby book.

Kelton--just fell in love with it!!

Cian (key-in)--our last surprise baby. Had to continue with the hard C/K sound--or he would have been Jack! When I saw the name in a book, I thought it was see-in, and I did not like it. The I read how it was to be pronounced key-in--and loved it.

I ove yor kids names! We're actually considering Cullen if pur baby is a boy. I alo like Cian. We too gave our daughter a differnt spellinmg to a common name, as we like traditional Celtic names. Her name is spelt Caolyn (K-Lynn) but is pronounced Key-o-lynn.
